Is the Tail Light Issue with Your Car Just a Simple Fix? Your car's tail lights not going off can seem like the biggest issue ever, but it might be be one of the easiest to fix. When one of these three things is wrong, such as a broken brake light switch, faulty trailer light plug, or a broken wire harness, many people immediately assume that the issue is something significant, such an electrical short or a blown fuse, when it's actually something little and simple. We'll talk about why the tail lights won't turn off today

Unresponsive brake light switch There could be a few reasons why your tail lights are on when the car is off, depending on the vehicle. A damaged brake light switch, brake light switch stopper, trailer light plug, or wire harness could all be at blame for this issue. When not in use, a brake light switch turns off the power to your taillights. This keeps your brake light bulbs from going out if your headlights aren't on, but it's independent from your ignition system so that electricity won't inadvertently go to them when your car is switched off and the keys are still in the ignition, for instance. Your lights will continue to operate while you fix it if it breaks.

Error in the Trailer Light Plug Make sure the trailer light plug is inserted into the correct socket by checking it. If that doesn't work, your wire harness can be damaged. A simple 15-amp fuse, which is readily replaceable at an auto parts store, serves as the trailer light plug. Check that there is electricity reaching your plug while your key is in the on position by turning on and off your brights. On an earlier model car, not having functional brake lights may also be caused by a broken brake light switch or brake light switch stopper.
