lowing effortlessly from a SS’15 hit into a new season key autumn/winter trend, suede is the frontrunner of fabrics right now. This season’s designers found endless ways to incorporate a heavy dose of suede into the collections, under the guise of various trends, so prepare to join the silky suede brigade! From summer into winter, we saw seventies styles evolve seamlessly into modern bohemia. Suede patchwork, tassels, fringing and platforms in ever-eclectic autumnal tones ensured the 70s are here to stay. Embodying the laid-back vibe, both high end and high street brands are dishing it up in suede spades. Check out Topshop’s a-line offering in this versatile, wardrobe-staple skirt. Whilst classic camel or tan remains the key combo, the new way to do suede involves adding pops of colour. From this season’s deep mustard to on-trend rich red or jewel-tone

FASHION jade green - pair simply with easy denim or calm neutrals for an effortless attitude. If a one-off purchase is what you’re after, go all in with a suede coat. Longer trench styles are leading the way, but sleeveless waistcoat-styles and tailored double-breasted jackets offer another appeal. For extra style points, opt for a full-length fringed piece, with Burberry Prorsum's take on the suede cover-up offering the perfect example. We love! The suede parade successfully filtered right through from the SS’15 collections, where we saw transitional styles in soft lilac plaid patchwork at Derek Lam, boxy bombers at Saint Laurent and tie-belted coats at Gucci. While at Ralph Lauren’s Ready To Wear AW’15 show, suede details and accessories saved the day, with taupe chunky ankle boots complimenting luxe leather suede trousers, in the ultimate of chic cosy casual wear. Right now suede is officially a fash-pack favourite, and with the trend showing no signs of abating, best make it a cornerstone of your winter wardrobe. Easily suede? Us too.

he grey skies and rainy days which so often feature in our summers – especially this one! – can leave us longing for sunshine, while summer fashion tends to mean exposed skin; but after months of grey skies, a natural tan to complement summer style can be difficult to come by. Enter tan queen and TOWIE star Lauren Goodger, who has now launched her LW Tan range here in Ireland & N. Ireland – and beauty aficionados are loving the shades, the smooth finish and the scent of her affordable but effective product range. The team at LW TAN has developed a shade for everyone with a go-to guide for first timers and experienced tanners alike. Many people are often confused over which shade is best suited to their skin tone, but Lauren explains: “Our LW Medium range is perfect for first-time tanners or fair skin. If you’re nervous about trying tanning, then this is the shade for you. Products in our Medium range 38

w w w. m y u l s t e r l i f e . c o m

include: MEDIUM BRONZING LOTION; MEDIUM BRONZING MOUSSE; INSTANT WASH OFF GLOW and GRADUAL TAN. “Our LW Dark range is perfect for medium/dark skin tones as this will leave you with an instant, bronzed glow – adding glamour to any look. We carry products such as DARK BRONZING LOTION and DARK GLAM TAN in this range. Not forgetting our LW MAN TAN too. “Our LW ‘Darker Than Dark’ range is ideal for olive/dark skin

tones, providing instant colour and leaving a deep, bronzed, intense colour after just one application. Our products in this range include DARKER THAN DARK BRONZING LOTION; BRONZING MOUSSE and DARKER THAN DARK GLAM TAN. “Like all our products, it is infused with citrus and fruit extracts for a gorgeously fresh aroma. It’s the perfect tan for last minute parties and those who don’t have the time to wait for their tan to develop.” Lauren also advises that for a streak-free application with all tan products, the LW BODY POLISH should be used prior to application to buff away dead skin. The tan products should ideally be applied with a LW TANNING MITT, and to maintain a golden and fresh colour, the LW TAN ENHANCING MOISTURISER can also be massaged into the skin daily. All LW products are long-lasting, luxuriously hydrating as well as being quick and easy to apply, plus the colour guide allows you to see exactly where you are applying it. Simple!

Zuni A/W 2015 Hair trends

I

t’s time to put summer behind us now & welcome the new autumn/winter season. Pack away the summer wardrobe and get out the boots and jackets again. With hair the new trends are simple. Undone hair is hot for winter. The big blowout has been replaced by lower maintenance easy to manage hair. Upside down blow-dries with a little bit of styling at the ends and clever use of products gives a fresh feel to the hair. Use your own hairs natural

texture, just tweak it a little. Condition is key as frizzy and dry are not the desired textures so after the summer holiday hair you may have to up the level of love you need to give your hair. Loreal have just launched an amazing new product range for dry hair called PRO – FIBER with a new active ingredient aptyl 100 molecule complex it revives restores and restructures the hair. There are 3 different levels of product depending on texture and level of damage and it starts with a super intensive

in salon treatment and a care package to use at home. You can feel the results INSTANTLY and it smells amazing. As for colour nothing is the same. We have new techniques, baby lights, ecaille and contouring. Baby lights are super fine high lights that give a totally natural blended regrowth, it can be combined with balayage on the ends for a softer ombre look. Ecaille is a tortoiseshell technique that works with lowlights and highlights to give light and shade right through the hair and contouring is for long hair and works to brighten or darken areas around your face to enhance or disguise faceshape. Not forgetting the new blends of colours, brondes , silvers, cool brunettes and soft reds autumn is an exciting season for an image overhaul. Your colourist should be able to point you in the right direction to update your look and keep you not only bang on trend but create a look tailored personally to you and your features.

O

THIS MONTH, JUDITH MULGREW FROM SKIN MEDISPA DISCUSSES THE DERMICA PEN – OFTEN REFERRED TO AS A ‘NON-SURGICAL FACELIFT’ IT IS ONE OF THE MOST ADVANCED NON-INVASIVE, ANTI-AGING SKINCARE TREATMENTS!

ne of the questions I get asked most frequently by my clients is 'How do I get rid of these lines and wrinkles?!' We all want younger, smoother and healthier looking skin, and I am delighted to be able to offer clients a range of cutting edge skincare treatments which offer just that! Advances in new skincare technologies and treatments mean that we really can deliver long-lasting

52

w w w. m y u l s t e r l i f e . c o m

and successful skincare results! Of course, there is no such thing as a miracle treatment; I do believe that a good skincare routine, drinking plenty of water and having a healthy diet and lifestyle go a long way to helping our skin look and feel its best, but with some of the best anti-aging skincare treatments available at Skin Medispa, it's always good to give our skin that extra bit of help! The Dermica Pen is a high

performance micro-needling treatment that rejuvenates the skin, restoring balance, suppleness and texture – all without any discomfort! About the size of a pen, this hand held device contains tiny micro-needles that gently penetrate the skin, stimulating the skin's natural production of collagen and elastin. The result is smoother, more refined skin and a noticeable reduction in wrinkles due to

ADVERTORIAL the skin tightening effects of the treatment. To begin the treatment a serum is applied which in turn hydrates the skin and locks in moisture. It is normal to feel the motion of the pen on your skin in the form of a light pressure, rest assured there is no pain or discomfort. Following treatment a soothing gel mask and aftercare cream are applied. Although redness will occur during and after the treatment, this will settle within a number of hours - you can pop on your makeup again the same day! The following day after treatment, you can resume your skincare routine as normal, following the aftercare advice

your therapist has provided. In total, the treatment lasts approximately 60 minutes. Whilst many clients notice a positive change in their skin just after one treatment, a course of at least 3-6 treatments is recommended to guarantee longer lasting and more noticeable results. Dermica Pen will effectively treat the following on both face and body: •L ines and Wrinkles •P ost Acne Scarring/Pitting •A trophic Scarring e.g. Chickenpox •P igmentation •E nlarged Pores and Stretch Marks.

For a limited time we are offering this exclusive Dermica Pen promotion to Ulster Life readers! Pay for 3 treatments, get 1 FREE! Pay for 5 treatments, get 2 FREE! Skin Medispa offers an extensive range of treatments which include:

How do I curl my hair with GHDs? As a stylist in a busy salon I hear this question a lot. Now for all the hard-core hair hero wannabes out there the answer

is this. You use the styler as you would use a pair of scissors to curl a ribbon. Taking the styler in hand you clamp down on the hair near the root where you want the curl to start, twist it once & pull! Ok so for most you have now achieved a slightly singed piece of hair with some kinks & a poker straight end!? Not the exact look you were going for & you've burnt the tip of your ear to add insult to injury. If you managed to get a perfect curl try

BEAUTY again & again until your whole head is curled to perfection & then send me your CV!

Is there an easier/ less painful way? Our good friends at GHD have only gone & made it fool proof with their GHD curve tools. For those of you who have tried & tried but never managed a perfect curl, these are the answer! There are 4 to choose from depending on the type of curl you want to wear & they are so simple to use. Like magic! GHD have used their new tri zone technology (same technology used for the new platinum styler) to make the process quick &

easy (just 5-10 seconds per section depending on width). Add a little GHD curl hold spray to each section as you go along & you'll be rocking beach waves or movie star tumbling curls before you know it.

Are they expensive? In salon we offer a pre pay scheme which is really popular whereby you can pay off a styler or curve tong over a few weeks/ months to break the cost down before you take it home. For the pros at home the platinum styler will be the best tool as it's multifunctional for curling & straightening at £165 or for those of you who are

Many of us hit the gym or pound the pavement to build muscle, improve cardiovascular health, and of course, get a physique to be proud of but that’s not where the benefits of exercise end. Check out my favourite fitness facts and discover how getting moving can benefit your lifestyle, mental health and overall happiness factor…

Sleep

Heal

Ever noticed how well you sleep after a good gym session? It has been proven that for some individuals, a moderate workout can act as the equivalent of a sleeping pill. Physical activity raises the body’s core temperature and when the body temp drops back to normal a few hours later, it alerts the body that it’s time to sleep. So plan your workout effectively for a blissful bedtime.

Get well. Regular physical activity speeds up the healing process from illness, injury and surgery. The increased amount of oxygen received through the lungs during exercise is then delivered via the blood to the entire body, promoting increased cell repair and regrowth - as well as helping us breath better and deeper!

FITNESS

Mood

Ageing

If you suffer from bouts of depression, studies show you can lessen your symptoms up to 50% through heart-pumping, aerobic exercise. Working off negative energy, aerobic stimulation aids in regulating cognitive abilities and emotions.

As we age, our brains age with us, which for some can mean the onset of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Brain cells are damaged or killed, losing important brain functions. While exercise and a clean diet cannot ‘cure’ Alzheimer’s, they can protect against cognitive decline. Working out, especially between age 25 and 45, boosts the chemicals in the brain that support and prevent degeneration of the hippocampus, a key part of the brain for memory.

Memory Exercise boosts memory function and the ability to learn. Getting sweaty increases production of cells in the brain responsible for memory and learning. A recent UK study showed that running sprints improved vocabulary retention.

Focus Feeling unproductive at work? Research shows that employees who take time for exercise on a regular basis are more productive than their more sedentary coworkers. While hectic schedules can make it tough to squeeze in gym sessions, some experts believe that midday is the ideal time for a workout due to the body’s natural physical rhythms.

CARS

Lex go! N

ot so many years ago this sector of the car market (£50-75k) didn’t really exist. You, me or anyone could buy any type of Ford or a Mercedes and that was grand! Today exists a very different world where almost every conceivable variant of every marque has a place in an ever expanding showroom, and if you believe the ad men and watch the TV ads, each car is built for a specific person of specific age who all like strapping a mountain bike to the roof. A case in point regard the sheer number of variants of each manufacturer on the road – Growing up you had an Audi 80 or if you had a little more money you had an Audi 100. Today you can have an A1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8, Now take all of these models and add either, S-line, Black edition, Black edition+, S on an RS and you’ll have the same car with different trim/HP/ Styling. The list at Audi goes on, TT, TTS, TTRS, Q3, Q5, Q7, R8 and if we read correctly Audi 70

w w w. m y u l s t e r l i f e . c o m

plan to release 7 brand new letters to the Alphabet in 2016 allowing them to build many new cars that will all look the same with a surfboard on the roof but run off the national grid via your hoover socket causing many petrol stations to close and as a result 500ml bottles of diet coke and packets of chewing gum will find their way on to the endangered species list. This brings me not very neatly at all to the stand alone

Lexus RC F. Today this car on paper stats alone, in my opinion competes with several Audi RS badged cars, BMW M4 & M5 and Mercedes AMG of various guises. The list goes on but when speaking about the luxury end of the 450bhp+ club the 3 Germans and their Japanese nemeses take a corner each. The rest is American or tacky and usually both so best left to the Americans. The Lexus on looks alone

CARS

wins. This car wasn’t built initially as a 2.0 TDI middle management bus like each and every one of its rivals. It was built as the RC F 5.0 V8. There is no commuter version for the masses and because of this there is something very rare and beautiful about this car beyond its stunning looks. This car was designed for drivers not mountain bikers. The 471 bhp and 0-60 time of just under 4.5 seconds is in a few words,

bloody good fun. There are those of course who say it feels a little slower than those figures suggest and its hefty weight of 1.765KG might have something to do with that, but in my opinion the car feels mature, sturdy and unlike a certain 2.0 CDI coupe I recently drove it didn’t want try to strip £500 of rubber every time the fun pedal was pushed. The whole car feels like one unit and you as a driver become part of that.

We did a lot of motorway driving and it made for a fantastic cruiser. Naturally on a car like this the suspension was a little obvious but nothing to complain about. Around town it was like any GT/Sports car but had the turning circle of a squirrel which was a nice surprise given the cul-de-sac we do daily that takes 2 goes in our daily 5 Series Touring. The cabin was at first glance a little strange as it looks like nothing else on the market but as you get to grips with the layout and the fantastic touch pad that controls pretty much everything, you start to feel connected. It’s a joy to be in. Overall if you want to spend this sort of money on a car you really should look seriously at the Lexus as an alternative the Germans. It looks like nothing else, drives superbly and you won’t see 40 variants of it every time you pop out for a pint of milk. In a world that’s full of replication and automotive plagiarism buy yourself an original painting not a 1 of 250 print.

The Lexus featured is available from Charles Hurst Lexus Belfast. Currently priced at £53,990 Was £64,120 @ time of print Car tested is wrapped in matt yellow. Original colour is white. T: 028 9517 0302 www.charleshurstgroup.co.uk w w w. m y u l s t e r l i f e . c o m
