It’s all go for PANI The Publicity Association of Northern Ireland (PANI) has had a busy few months with two hugely successful business breakfasts celebrating the launch of UTV Ireland as well as new community radio station Belfast FM plus the association’s popular annual Radio Quiz, which this year was hosted by Citybeat. Members from across the wider advertising, design, media and publicity industries fought the battle to beat last year’s champions The Daily Mirror, and the winning team was Downtown Radio/Cool FM, with the wooden spoon going to Walkers Communications.

The Fitzwilliam Hotel The Fitzwilliam Hotel Belfast recently hosted an evening of ‘Silk & Sparkles’ to mark the launch of its chic wedding and special occasion event space, the Ninth Floor. As the name suggests, the room with a panoramic backdrop of the city, sits on the top floor of the hotel and offers a quirky setting for various occasions, whether it’s an intimate wedding, new product launch or family get together. Fashion was at the forefront of the evening with pieces exhibited from local boutiques Blush and Orchid Lingerie paired with jewellery from Stella & Dot, presented by Tracey Rodgers from Style Academy. The evening ended on a high with some lucky guests winning Champagne Afternoon Tea at the Fitzwilliam, a lingerie set from Orchid Lingerie and The Lingerie Room and a necklace from Stella & Dot.

It’s ‘Gin O’clock’ at Newforge House Celebrating 10 years in Business Newforge House hosted a celebration of Ulster food, drink and hospitality on Monday 11th May 2015 to mark the anniversary of 10 years in business. John Mathers said, “I can’t believe it has been 10 years – it has gone in the blink of an eye. I am very proud of what we have achieved in those years. Thanks to a really strong small team and fantastic local producers Newforge House has won many fabulous awards and recognition from food and travel writers.

10

Most important to us are the valued comments and repeat visits from guests. Newforge is a special place and we hope to help guests create special memories during their stay.” Food and travel writers, local press and bloggers tasted some wonderful local food and drink, and meet the people who produce it. Guests were welcomed with an Elderflower Gin & Tonic, made with award winning Northern Irish Shortcross Gin,

homemade elderflower cordial and ‘designer ice’ made with home grown borage and tonic water. McGrath’s craft beer, from Clanconnel Brewing Co., in our neighbouring village of Waringstown was also served. John cooked some of the local produce that features in our daily changing menu. Food included: salt aged beef from Peter Hannan’s Himalayan Salt Chamber in Moira; Young Buck Raw Milk Blue Cheese from Mike’s Fancy Cheese Company in Newtonards; Cavanbert Raw Milk Cheese from Corleggy, Co. Cavan; and Walter Ewing’s Smoked Salmon. John and Lou opened Newforge House in May 2005 with the idea of running a Country House that feels like a home from home and has the highest quality food at its heart. It took two years of hard work to convert John’s family home into a luxurious Country House Guesthouse which now takes pride of place in Ireland’s Blue Book, Georgina Campbell’s Ireland Guide, John & Sally McKenna’s Irish Food Guide, Good Food Ireland, The Good Hotel Guide and Alistair Sawday. Newforge House opened with a team of two staff – John and Lou. Over the years the team has expanded to include six fantastic local ladies. Today Newforge House has been transformed into a multi-award winning five star Country House Guesthouse. enquiries@newforgehouse. com or telephone +44 (0) 28 92611255 www.newforgehouse.com

Good times at John Minnis Estate Agents Sales increase, staff diplomas and five national awards! It has been quite a year for John Minnis Estate Agents already. Firstly, the volume of sales increases by 20 per cent in the first quarter (compared to the same time last year). Secondly, more than one third of the workforce have just completed Diplomas in the Sale of Residential Property, and more staff are in the process of qualifying. And thirdly, to add to their already impressive awards cabinet, they scoop five awards at the highly coveted, national awards, the ESTAs, including the ‘Best Local Lettings Agency

12

in the UK’ and ‘Best Estate Agents in Northern Ireland’. The agency with three offices located in Belfast, Holywood and Donaghadee also received full recognition in ‘Best Estate Agents in Northern Ireland’ category, with all three offices winning awards. The Donaghadee office received additional recognition winning the Gold award in the Best Lettings Agency in Northern Ireland. John Minnis was one of just four agencies from Northern Ireland to be shortlisted in the twelfth annual ESTA awards,

which are the ‘Oscars’ of the estate agency industry. John Minnis, director of John Minnis estate agents said: “It has been a great few months for us, and indeed for the industry as a whole. “Two recent reports from RICS and ONS are further indications to confirm the fact that the Northern Ireland housing market is in recovery. “This mirrors our own findings with our transactions having risen month on month and are 20% up on the same period last year. “Our professional team of staff is central to our success, and their recent diploma success ensures they are not only at the top of their game, but that they stay that way. “The ESTAs was a special event, and one of which we are thrilled to have been a part of and delighted to have been recognised at. The regional and national acknowledgment level is fantastic, and to come home with five awards is amazing.” John concluded: “I also want to particularly thank our customers for taking the time to vote for us and provide such positive feedback.” John Minnis Estate Agents offer sales and lettings across Belfast, north Down and the Ards Peninsula and will celebrate ten years in business in Holywood this July. Fash Fest A leading stylist in Northern Ireland, Eve has a wealth of experience in the industry. Each month she offers a fashion focus into the most coveted designers, trends and styles of the season.

16

ULfashion The year’s first seasonal festival is behind us and once again, Coachella has left a sea of summer style inspiration in its wake. Undoubtedly it is the hot spot to clock the trends that will dominate festival fields this summer, both near and afar. Agreed, Coachella always calls for a floral crown and aviator shades. While these and many other boho-inspired typical style staples will reign supreme each year, we love to pour over the image galleries of ‘festival street style’ and celebrity takes on the ultimate fashion fest get up. Festival-goers embraced the 70s spring trend, embodying the carefree character of the decade in flared jeans, suede waistcoats and fringe detailing. Complimented with middle part straight locks and fresh florals in the hair, the signature field-frolicking ensemble of teeny denim cut-offs, bohemian floaty frocks and flat ankle boots was widespread (with less of a need for the typical Hunter wellies in the clammy climate). Following suit, the celebrity style didn’t fail to impress. Alexa Chung looked the epitome of effortless elegance, playing her DJ set barefoot in a sheer billowing organza dress. While a festival pro who always looks the part, Kate Bosworth topped a simple shift dress with an embellished linen Etro jacket, teamed with mini Coach satchel and suede Matisse boots from her own collection. Catwalk queen, Kendall Jenner looked every bit the model of the moment in an off-the-shoulder peasant top and thigh-slit Sass & Bide flowing trousers, accessorised with fringed cross-body Etro bag and snake skin flats.

WHAT’S NEW?

It’s the green lipstick that’s selling out across the UK and it’s green, yes green. It’s an unlikely candidate for this summer’s must-have shade but Lipstick Queen’s sensational new Frog Prince Lipstick (£22, Space NK) is proof that all is not as it seems - it doesn’t actually stay green. As soon as the deep emerald green pigments make contact with your lips, they react with your skin’s warmth and pH levels, transforming into your own customised shade of magical rosebud pink! Rimmel’s new Wake Me Up Mascara, £7.99 is available this month from Boots and Superdrug stores, and uses cucumber and vitamins to hydrate lashes and give your eyes a wide awake look. I’m always on the hunt for a good eye liner and have problems with most because they either irritate my eyes, smudge too easily or just don’t last, but I’ve found Smashbox’s Photo Angle Pigment Gel Liner, £18, Boots or Smashbox.co.uk – it comes in five shades and the twist pen and the angle of the tip makes application easier and it really lasts! One of my favourite brands Crabtree & Evelyn is not known to rest on its laurels and has just introduced its first ever nail lacquer range featuring 21 gorgeous shades at just £6 each! Speaking of gorgeous shades – cult beauty brand Benefit has not disappointed with its latest collection of Creaseless Cream Shadows, £15.50 each, counters nationwide. I just love the names – Always A Bridesmaid, Blue My Mind and Pinky Swear.

Aveda Pure Abundance Volumizing Hair Spray 200ml £16.50, aveda.co.uk

John Frieda Luxurious Volume 7 Day Volume In-Shower Treatment, £9.99, Superdrug

Big Hair Heroes

Calling all volume seekers! Everywhere I look I see women flaunting their big, bouffant, beautiful manes of hair and they seem to taunt me with every volumised swish. Considering the fact that fine, limp and thinning hair affects 40 per cent of women in the UK, I wonder how there can be so many big wigs about; perhaps they have mastered the art of DIY volumisation? Here’s how you can too...

BE PREPARED First, get your ducks in a row i.e. the right products for the task at hand. Your hair needs to be in mint condition and Liz Earle have brought out a fab new range of shampoo and conditioner (£10 each, Boots). John Frieda promises big hair in a week with his Luxurious Volume 7 Day Volume In-Shower Treatment, £9.99, Superdrug

which creates volume by building a polymer network onto hair fibres, enhancing the texture and fullness of individual strands. Big hair aficionados Bumble and bumble has added to its cult brand with the new Pret-aPowder and thickening range. Prêt-à- powder (£21.50, Space NK) is a loose, translucent powder that’s equal parts dry shampoo and style extender that

adds a sexy va-va-voluminous style to any type of hair. Bumble and bumble’s Thickening Dry Spun Finish (£21.50, Space NK) completes the look and holds everything in place. Powders are essential when it comes to creating volume as the fine dust sticks to each strand at the root fabricating the appearance of thickness. Swell Ultimate Dry Shampoo (£20,

Leave for as long as possible and hair should fall out of each roller

ULbeauty Percy & Reed Absolutely Bouncing Volumising Mousse, £12, M&S

The Art of Backcombing Get a backcombing brush – it’s essential for the job at hand!

Make sure your hair isn’t clean and void of product – it simply won’t hold any style. Try using a volumising shampoo and conditioner and never underestimate the power of a good mousse. Then it’s time to section the hair into manageable portions and, using your backcombing brush, gently but firmly push the hair back towards the scalp right down to the root in one fluid motion. Make sure you comb each section through before backcombing, so you don't end

36

up with a tangled bird's nest at the back of your head. Work throughout the crown and then flip the hair back and smooth over the top of it all with your brush to create a smooth look. Finish with a strong holding spray and voila!

The art of food... Local artist, Neil Shawcross, has unveiled his latest work at the James Wray & Co art gallery in Belfast this week. The painting - which was commissioned by Monaghan-based sausage producer Arthur Mallon Foods - depicts the iconic brand logo of the family-owned food company. A wide variety of guests attended the gathering, and enjoyed the chance the meet the artist and also sample the famous Mallon sausage range, which was cooked to perfection by leading chef, Niall McKenna.

Spa Sleuth

Ulster Life’s very own Spa Sleuth, Cathy Martin visits Jason Shankey Lisburn Road As summer approaches it’s a little bit easier to look after our bodies. The sunshine makes us want to get out and get more active, plus, fruits and vegetables are fresher and in season, making them affordable and accessible. I mean, who wants to eat a stodgy dinner when the sun’s shining outside? A salad with some fish or chicken is so much nicer… However, if your body is still suffering from a winter hangover, with too many stodgy dinners and takeaways hanging around your waistline, there are some quick fixes to

help you along the way to a slimmer, firmer you. In this issue our regular Spa Sleuth Cathy Martin tries out the minimi wrap, which is now available at Jason Shankey’s Lisburn Road salon. It’s not a pretty site being brushed down, oiled up and then wrapped up in a membrane similar to cling film, but this is essentially what the minimi wrap entails – and it’s all worth it. Firstly I was stripped down to just my pants and then measured at various parts of my body – calves, upper knees, thighs, hips, waist, abdomen and

arms – then the minimi team body brushed me (I had two amazing staff members treat me for speed). The body brushing does wonders for circulation, not to mention exfoliating dry and dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This helps to prepare for the next part of the treatment, the application of the oils. As they applied the oils I asked the girls what was in the mix but even they don’t know, as the ingredients are apparently so secret, however I did detect some sandalwood and musky essential oils in there. Again the application of this oil allowed for a bit of an all over body massage – not quite a deep, relaxing massage, but any

43

ULbeauty

kind of massage is great for skin tone and circulation, so bring it on! I loved the chat with the girls throughout and they kindly asked what areas I would like to target most, telling me that most people’s results would include a good inch loss around the tummy and buttock areas as well as thighs and upper arms. The wrapping part came next and I twisted and turned while the therapist wrapped me with the membrane. Torvil and Dean couldn’t have choreographed us better! The wrap is applied neatly to the body, but it definitely wasn’t uncomfortable for me and

44

in fact, when I was lying on the pre-heated bed with foils and blankets over me to activate the oils, (the next step) I was able to tap away on my mobile answering texts and emails, but I think some people might choose to sleep as the warmth is so relaxing. I lay there for 45 minutes, before the wrap was taken off and measurements were taken again. My result was 15 inches lost on the first wrap and then 9.2 inches lost on the second visit – mostly on my abdomen and hips, as well as a bit off my thighs. The oil made my skin feel super smooth for two days, and it is advised

not to shower for 24 hours to let it continue to do its work. I love this treatment and will definitely be back for more! 9/10 In terms of product, I tried Tropic skincare this month too. Started by former Apprentice contestant Susan Ma, who impressed Lord Sugar so much that he supported her business despite her not actually winning the show. In fact, Tropic is the only company he has ever invested in outside of The Apprentice winners and he is a 50:50 partner. Susan’s vision was to create a range of affordable, natural and cruelty-

ULbeauty

free skincare; she started with a salty body scrub and now the range boasts a myriad of body and facial products. Introduced to me by local representative Gillian Allison, my favourite product was the Nourishing Face Cream, which has a huge blend of oils, plant actives, antioxidants and 18 vitamins. Suitable for all skin types, it can be used day/night so is a great all-rounder product, and not too expensive either at £20. The bonus is the cream’s fragrance, as it contains essential oils including sweet orange, rose, geranium and frankincense. But

all these essential oils don’t mean that it’s an oily product, in fact it felt silky and smooth on my skin. I also loved the night time oil – which made me wake up feeling like a twenty something with beautifully soft skin! The other wünderproduct in the range for me is the Tamanu Healing Balm, which costs £32. This truly skin saving product combines the super-healing powers of the Tamanu plant, the protection of Monoi Butter and the soothing effects of Organic Cranberry and Blackcurrant Seed Oils to create a gorgeous green balm that

repairs scarred and damaged skin. Its gentle formulation makes this a must-have for new mums and can be used to treat anything from cuts, insect bites and acne, to psoriasis, sunburn and particularly scars and stretch marks. I adore it and would give it 8/10 for general amazing-ness! Digital Readers click here to visit www.jasonshankey. com. Ulster Life Spa Review by Cathy Martin. It’s a NEW me! 46

ULhealth How has The New You Plan changed your life? The best thing about a Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) is the quick results. As I began to lose weight quickly, safely and easily my confidence began to grow. I absolutely love shopping now. I love the fact that I can go into a shop and literally pick anything I want. My newfound confidence also means that I look forward to work nights out. The New You Plan has given me a new lease of life. When I look back at where I was and how I was feeling compared to my life now, I feel like a totally new person. I finally found my new me!

Maria has lost an amazing 3 stone since she started The New You Plan. In fact, her impressive weight lost was instant with 9 pounds being lost in the first week alone! Overall, her 3 stone weight loss has seen her shrink from a dress size 18, right down to a slim line size 12. Here, she talks to Ulster Life about her incredible weight loss journey. Maria, why did you choose The New You Plan? I joined New You on a recommendation from a friend. She had lost so much weight and was constantly telling me how easy it was. Having tried so many other diets and failed, I was drawn to The New You Plan for its simplicity and the very structured regime that I knew would keep me on track. I couldn’t believe how easy the diet was and the support I received from The New You Plan was amazing! What were your reasons behind starting the diet? I used to hate clothes shopping. I would try on clothes and they just didn’t feel comfortable. I also began to realise that I was part of a vicious cycle. I wouldn’t go out because I didn’t feel comfortable about how I looked so I would stay in and end up snacking and eating. And so the cycle continued. I’ve also never been on a sun holiday! I would think about the clothes that I would be required to wear and the thought just made me shy away from it. All of these factors added up to me finally realising that I needed to make a change.

I was drawn to The New You Plan for its simplicity and the very structured regime that I knew would keep me on track. I couldn’t believe how easy the diet was and the support I received from The New You Plan was amazing!

What are your top tips to staying focused on a VLCD? • Know what you want and why you want it. • Take pictures to help you keep a visual record of your progress. • Exercise. • Use The New You Plan Facebook Secret Slimmers support group. • Focus on your achievements and make promises to yourself that you intend to keep about not going back! New Peaks By Eve Brannon Sponsored by Peak Physique Lisburn Road

I have now been working with my new training partner Peak Physique for five weeks and would like to take the opportunity to introduce the gym and offer an insight into my experience so far. Regular exercise has played an important role in my life and routine for over two years now. I use it to energise, to relax, to motivate and unwind, so finding a location and environment that I enjoy training in is increasingly important to me. Starting at a new gym is always daunting, I knew that I would know pretty much right away if it was an environment I was comfortable in or not. And secondly, whether it

48

would be appropriate to my level of fitness and training – I didn’t want to be surrounded by body builders and fitness models! Established in 1988, Peak Physique has been at the forefront of the fitness industry in Belfast for over 25 years. In 2012 the gym changed ownership and is now family owned and managed. This is evident in its refreshed packages and expanded offerings, plus welcoming

and personal atmosphere. My first impression of Peak Physique is that it’s a feel-good gym. Staff, instructors and PTs are friendly, relaxed and approachable. Furthermore, its clientele are the same. Members come from all walks of life, with varied levels of fitness and goals. There are no airs and graces; egos are left at the door. Initially I decided to take advantage of a trial day pass, to experience a class and explore

ULfitness the gym floor. My first class was ‘AB-Solution’ with instructor Trisha. This class incorporates the components of circuits and core conditioning into one session. I was impressed to see the class was extremely popular, with both males and females taking part. The heady cocktail of fast paced core work, matched with the burn of circuits creates a high-energy workout that flew by, while being good fun. I have since experienced further classes, which I will cover in detail at a later date. The next stage of my introduction was to meet with a Fitness Instructor, Stuart, to co-ordinate a programme that I would follow independently. Stuart began by giving me an explanation of the gym floor, the machines and facilities. We went on to discuss my level of fitness and goals going forward. I am at a stage where I am comfortable with my current physique and weight, so weightloss isn’t a goal for me. Instead I wish to maintain a level of health and fitness, while not pushing my body or creating undue stresses on it. Maintenance, muscle tone and strength are where my focus lies, so we discussed mainly resistance training. At this stage new members would relay and address their specific goals: whether that be general health and fitness, weight-loss, muscle gain, rehabilitation, lifestyle change, etc. Over the last few weeks I have been carrying out the personal programme three times a week, whilst monitoring any struggles or gains. My workout lasts approximately 50 minutes and incorporates machines such as the Pec Deck, Shoulder Press, Lat

Pull Down, Cables, Calf Raise, Leg Extension and Leg Press. As well as floor work such as freeweights with barbells, dumbbells and kettle bells. After four weeks I met with Stuart once again to discuss my progress, at this stage we worked through the programme and re-addressed my weights and reps for each exercise, depending on how he felt I was performing. Stuart was very helpful in answering all my

questions, as well as encouraging me to implement new elements into the workout and change aspects I found less enjoyable – I hate to be bored when training! I came away excited for the next four weeks and to embracing this next stage of my fitness journey. From my experience, whatever your individual goals may be, Peak Physique has the tools to support and encourage you to reach your personal peak!

Barry O’Doherty test drives the Bentley Continental GT V8 S Like the beginning of any career you can expect two routes to your dream job. You can choose to leave school at 16 and get stuck in, head down and start climbing the corporate ladder in the hope of someday ending up in a top of the range Vauxhall Insignia or you can stay at university, grow a trendy beard and apply for some “research” grants to keep you and your beard looking super-duper while your complicated tech start-up that you now own 6% of waits for Mr Zuckerberg to call at your office in Titanic Quarter with one of those big Charity Cheques for 872 hundred billion dollars. Last week I sort of bucked the career trend with the arrival of the Bentley Continental GT V8 S landing at the office for us to review. In career development

52

terms I’ve left school at 14 and the big fat Cheque has been delivered by my new buddy “Zuck” before my beard got a chance to take over my face. My first proper job as a motoring journalist (I’ll use that term loosely for now) and £164,000 of Bentley Continental awaits. So far so good! The Bentley tested has a base price of about £148k and this car has roughly £18k of options ticked like the Concours Series Black Specification coming in at an eye watering £7,600. In my opinion essential, adding a number of cosmetic improvements, noticeably the massive 21 inch black alloys and a sports exhaust system that delivers an orchestral purr at low speeds and unleashes an almighty thundering storm

when you push your right foot down hard – It’s so addictive that I can’t tell you how good the sound system was as I didn’t turn it on once to find out, but being attached to a Bentley I can hazard a guess that its probably quite fantastic. When the need to move at pace in this car arises, and it will quite often, for no reason at all – the exhaust fires out the 521 horsepower, 4 litre twin turbo under the bonnet like Thunder, the car changes in an instant from a floaty dreamy paradise to a fire spitting hard core thundering legend. The only time I’ve previously heard this much noise and felt this much power hurtling me down a strip of tarmac there was a pilot involved and a trolley full of mini Gin & Tonics to keep me entertained. The noise of

UL

the Bentley when let loose is something I have yet to see replicated outside of the Jaguar F Type, but the F Type is on a more permanent rage and appears to be incredibly angry from the moment you start the engine. Every time you pop to the shops to buy a pint of milk in the Jag it sounds like a couple of Spitfires launching an attack. The Bentley on the other hand gives you the option of frightening the life out of the neighbours or slipping off unnoticed. It’s sublime! Inside the cabin you’re surrounded by leather and brushed chrome as you would expect in any Bentley across the range. The layout of the dash is uncomplicated and dare I say it even a little ipad-ish in terms of ease of use and simplicity – The large central touchscreen takes

care of all multimedia including TV controls as well as some of the cars set up allowing you to fiddle with the suspension settings making the ride softer or harder depending on your driving style. Personally, we

kept within the softer settings as I am in my 30’s now and a bit old and achy most of the time. The electric seats offer heated or cooling as an option as well as a full back massage which is weirdly lovely and slightly weirder again when you are giving the car the beans down the M2. Visibility is good all round and despite looking like it’s the size of Canada it’s actually very easy to drive and park around town. The steering in particular around town is light and feedback at higher speed is as near perfect as you’ll get. Overall we couldn’t find fault with the car. If you’re in the market for a GT car and have about £150 to £200k kicking about and German cars are a little too common for you, then it’s the Bentley or a Ferrari California you’ll be after but I suspect you’ll buy the Bentley and love every minute of it as we did. Stress City From selfie addicts on social media to bad drivers, loud eaters and general stupidity, Laura Dunlop looks at what really annoys us... ABOUT PEOPLE...

1. Persistent tapping, whistling, chewing, rustling and general inane, unnecessary noise making which you do just to annoy me 2. Lazy people; the bin’s right there 3. Shop assistants who don’t put your change in your hand 4. Slow shoppers in the supermarket who stop and chat and take up the whole aisle so you can’t get past 5. People who walk slowly 6. People who don’t say, ‘please’ or ‘thank you’ and bad manners in general. Seriously – were you dragged up? 7. People who chew loudly and eat with their mouths open in restaurants and anywhere in fact. Yes, that prawn linguini did sound nice before I seen it being swished around your gob. Cheers for that 8. Speaking to call centre people, no offence to you but we hate you all and that tone you use is incredibly annoying 9. Unknown callers on your phone – who are you that you’re so important that you can’t announce who you are so I can decide if

54

I want to ignore you or not? 10. Small talk. ‘Did you have a nice weekend?’ ‘No, my cat died and I caught my fella in bed with Teresa from Cash Converters. How was your weekend?’ 11. Security in the airport and while we’re on it – why are you only allowed one piece of hand luggage even though you’re allowed to buy all you want in Duty Free? A discussion of said injustice follows before the detestable jobsworth makes you open your

bag to try to squeeze offending ‘second’ bag in much to the amusement of fellow passengers 12. Trying to talk and someone keeps interrupting you 13. People who don’t turn up (for events/parties/weddings/work/ prison – delete as appropriate) 14. Friends who cancel plans on you... all the time! If you don’t want to see me, fine but don’t make up lame ass excuses 15. Friend’s mundane dramas –enough said

UL that madam, we really did not need to know that your nasty bout of Thrush is back or that natural yoghurt really does help 24. People who have done everything that you have, only they have done it bigger and better and are therefore, full of hobby horse’s bobos 25. Being in lifts with smelly people; I wonder if they know how bad they smell? 26. People who talk at you... 27. People who stand still in the middle of a moving escalator 28. Space invaders 29. People who tut at you when your child is having a meltdown in public! They've no idea why it's happening... either assist me or mind your own beeswax

WHEN YOU’RE OUT...

16. When you’re on your way out and someone ‘drops in’ for an unscheduled visit; or, when you’re settling down for an evening of doing not much in particular and someone ‘drops in’ for an unscheduled visit. Have people no homes of their own? 17. Self obsessed people who talk about themselves 18. Being corrected 19. Stinginess – that one friend who conveniently never has any money on them

20. People who ask you something about your life but who actually don’t give a flying duck what your answer is 21. People who are up their own arse and might refer to themselves in the third person 22. People with a mobile phone but who never answer it, ever. Seriously, why have it? 23. People who talk loudly about their life predicaments whilst talking on a mobile phone on the train or bus. Thank you for

30. Shopkeepers who can’t be bothered to do their job and who ignore you because they are looking over your shoulder talking to their mate on checkout beside them! So rude! 31. When your card fails or even worse – is declined! 32. When the WIFI stops working – the horror! Or worse – when somewhere doesn’t have WIFI 33. Queuing at the bar and being ignored 34. Getting a drink spilt on you and you have only just come out and were looking damn fine – past tense 35. You’re waiting for a taxi and eventually ring up to ponder your driver’s 45 minute tardiness only to met with, ‘Aye, it’s on its way love.’ Click here to continue this article
