History and atmosphere Flanders is a little pocket of easy-to-reach towns and cities, teeming with history and atmosphere. Wherever you wander you will find café terraces (serving the world’s strongest beers), lively markets, gastronomic restaurants and great shopping. In its capital, Brussels, you will discover a large amount of contrasts. Brussels is a place rich in art and architecture, treating you to its local specialties and its friendly atmosphere.

European cities nearby As public transport in Flanders makes moving around quick, safe and easy, it gives you the freedom to visit and experience our other campuses of Odisee university college in Ghent, Sint-Niklaas and Aalst. And if you would like to explore the rest of Europe during your stay, you will be delighted to find cities like London, Paris, Cologne or Amsterdam all within a radius of 300 km. These cities are easily accessible by highspeed trains and cheap plane tickets.

Accommodation

Although Odisee university college does not have on-campus housing (except in SintNiklaas), the social and student services of

Odisee can help you with your search for a suitable place to stay. For assistance, practical information and questions related to housing, please send an e-mail to the International relations office before 15 June (for students coming for the autumn semester) or 15 November (for students coming for the spring semester). Please note that student rooms for a short term stay in Brussels are very wanted and the number is limited. It is therefore important to start your search or inquiry in time.

Application To apply for registration, follow the procedure of ‘exchange student?’ as described on www.odisee.be/english. Please send the following documents to the International relations office: • Application form • Copy of your Transcript of Records (listing courses, credits and marks obtained) • Copy or your Identity card • Copy of your Medical Health Insurance card or policy • 3 recent passport-size photographs Deadlines for application for spring semester courses: 15 November. SCHOOL OF HEALTH CARE Management in health care Belgian culture and language • General management • Quality control • Financial management • ICT in management • Communication in management • Business game • Internship • Personal project

• Number of European Credits: 20 European Credits. • Spring Semester. • This course is open to Medical Imaging students, including Erasmus students from partners of the Erasmus Radiography Group. More info can be found at www.erasmus-rad-group.org. • Lectures, workshops, self-study and group work. Internship will take place in different hospitals in Brussels and Flanders. • This course is implemented at Odisee Campus Brussel - Terranova.

International nursing education programme Work placement (17 European Credits) in combination with Study Programme ‘Tour of Flanders’ (3 European Credits) of 2 weeks with 4 themes offered at different Flemish University colleges.

• Number of European Credits: 20 European Credits. • Spring Semester. • This course is open to nursing students. For courses offered outside of Brussels (Tour of Flanders) a cost of 20 euro for one night accommodation will be charged (transport and catering are not included). More information about Tour of Flanders: http://associatie.kuleuven.be/p/ flandershealthcare • Lectures, discussion groups, joint projects, educational visits, casebase studies and role-playing techniques. • This course is implemented at different Flemish University colleges.

SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK The role of the social worker in the heart of europe Study program from Sep-Jan. The program provides in-depth analysis, seminars, field visits and a field project on subjects related to the • • • • •

European institutions and decision making (A)social policy Social interventions in the city Social and cultural inclusion, and Social and family networks in a transnational context

Accepted applicants will receive following courses: • Field practice in social work: 12 EC • European institutions and policy making: 3 EC • (A)social policy: social economic issues and paradigm shifts: 3 EC • Social work practice in the urban context of Brussels: 4 EC • Challenges and opportunities of social and cultural inclusion: 5 EC • Empowering family and social networks: 3 EC

• Number of European Credits: 30 European Credits • Autumn Semester. • The program is designed for undergraduate students, majoring in social science disciplines, social (care) work, European (social) policy, and who have a particular interest in developing their knowledge and skills in the core areas of urbanity, European policy and the role of the social worker in a cosmopolitan urban context. • Lectures, seminars, field visits and field work project. • This course is implemented at Odisee Campus Brussels.

SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY Construction • Bachelor Final project (15 European Credits). The program consists of a follow up on a building site with an architectural study of technicalities and building methods of the construction as well as partial price estimation. • Integrated project 3 (5 European Credits). Students take part in a BIM project (Building Information Project) which entails to organize a flow of information between the different parties involved in a (pre) design process. • Integrated project 1 (5 European Credits). This is an action course. Students need to build formwork constructions for a concrete wall, staircase poured in situ, beams or columns, and install supporting structure for floors, etc. • Project management 3 (4 European Credits). Students learn via ‘MS project’ how to make a practical construction schedule, reducing the number of activities in a schedule as to render it more useful. • Dutch Classes (3 European Credits). These classes are offered for a couple of days in Ghent and are on a basic level. • English Classes (3 European Credits). This is an advanced course in English, mainly focused on English -construction specificvocabulary and development of communication skills in the English language. As the Final project needs to be conducted in English, this course might be an asset.

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION Educational research on natural science • Natural science, with focus on reality based problems using the scientific method and integrating technology, biology, chemistry and physics (12 European Credits) • Educational research on natural science; educational research methodologies are implied to improve the education of natural science and technology (12 European Credits) • Cultural and educational science; exploration of the influence of culture on education and science; a specific part of the module integrates digital didactics in education (6 European Credits) School-based practical experience is part of the programme.

Assessment Each module is assessed separately. Natural science is assessed by two presentations and articles on the integration of natural science topics. Cultural and educational science is assessed by permanent evaluation and portfolio. For the module of educational research the student has to carry out an educational research on natural science, write an article about it and give a presentation in a small conference.

• Number of European Credits: 30 European Credits • Spring semester 2016: 13th January – 15th June 2016 • Application deadline for spring term exchanges: 1st October 2015 • This course is open to all teacher training students from secondary teacher training. Students should have completed the first half of their studies. • Lectures, workshops, self-study, group work and observation practice. • This course is implemented at Campus Waas in Sint-Niklaas and is exclusively for students from Odisee University College’s partner Universities.
