THE WAREHOUSE PROJECT ANNOUNCES ITS NEW LINE-UP AT A NEW LOCATION The Warehouse Project ha revelado el calendario completo de 2019 para su temporada más intensa hasta la fecha. La mayor parte de sus eventos tendrá lugar en su nuevo campo base donde caben más de 10.000 personas en el Depósito de Mayfield.

La temporada de tres meses comienza el 20 de septiembre y dura hasta el 1 de enero, mostrando el más amplio espectro de sonido y producción con espectáculos de Aphex Twin, Underworld, Four Tet, Nina Kraviz, Bicep, Fatboy Slim, Hacienda Classical, Above & Beyond, Paradise, Drumcode y muchos más.

NEW YORK OFFERS $500,000 IN GRANTS TO WOMEN IN MUSIC

The Warehouse Project has revealed the full 2019 calendar for its most intense season to date. Most of its events will take place in its new base camp in the Mayfield Depot, which can hold more than 10,000 people.

The three-month-long season begins on September 20 and goes on until January 1, showing the widest spectrum of sound and production with shows by Aphex Twin, Underworld, Four Tet, Nina Kraviz, Bicep, Fatboy Slim, Hacienda Classical, Above & Beyond, Paradise, Drumcode and many more.

“Without a doubt, WHP19 has been the most challenging and exciting season to program since WHP began. As has been the case with all the WHP events that have been held before, we don’t really know how long it will last, so our thinking was simply that we have to make the most of it for as long as it is available.

The Depot space is a dream as far as creating a new environment and collaborating with artists and other promoters in a way that has not been possible before. We are very happy with the way everything is going and we can’t wait until September” - Sam Kandel.

Including the WHP season, more than 1 million people are expected to visit Depot during the first year, bringing together a large number of respected institutions and networks, including The Warehouse Project, the renowned UK event brand, Broadwick Venues, MIF and many more.

La Oficina de Medios de Comunicación y Entretenimiento de Nueva York (MOME) ofrece 500.000 dólares en subvenciones a músicos y profesionales de la industria identificados como mujeres.

La comisaria de MOME, Anne del Castillo, anunció la creación del nuevo fondo esta semana, que será administrado a través de la New York Foundation For The Arts.

No es sólo para los músicos, sino para las mujeres que están involucradas en cada paso del proceso de grabación, desde los ingenieros de sonido hasta los productores. La convocatoria se abrió el 10 de julio, y se cerrará el 1 de octubre.

Hay algunas estipulaciones como que los solicitantes no pueden ser representados por un sello discográfico, por ejemplo, y deben residir dentro de los cinco distritos de la ciudad de Nueva York.

The New York Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) offers $500,000 in grants to musicians and industry professionals identified as women.

MOME curator, Anne del Castillo, announced the creation of the new fund this week, which will be managed by the New York Foundation For The Arts. It is not only for musicians, but rather for women who are involved in every step of the recording process, from sound engineers to producers. The application period opened on July 10, and will close on October 1.

There are certain stipulations such as that applicants cannot be represented by a record label, for example, and must reside within the five boroughs of New York City.

OMBRA PREPARES FOR ITS SECOND EDITION

El festival Dreambeach Villaricos (7-11 de agosto), ha creado el espacio donde se desplegará su programación Techno con un guiño a la actualidad.

La Dreams Tent, la enorme carpa en la que se bailan los ritmos underground, recreará en su interior un ambiente misterioso de claroscuros y geometrías verticales inspirado en la catedral de Notre Dame de París, que recientemente fue noticia por culpa del incendio que la asoló el pasado 15 de abril.

El festival almeriense ha mostrado hoy los bocetos de la Dreams Tent, el gran templo del Techno donde 16.000 ravers bailarán este año con la música de DJs de talla internacional como Adam Beyer, Marco Carola, Loco Dice, Stephan Bodzin, Boris Brejcha, Joris Voorn b2b Kölsch, Nina Kraviz o Charlotte de Witte, entre otros.

Se trata de una enorme carpa de 4.000 metros cuadrados y una altura de 16 metros, equivalente a un edificio de 5 plantas.

El equipo creativo encargado del diseño de este gigante templo del Techno ha querido rendir un homenaje a Notre Dame en el año de su trágico incendio. En la Dreams Tent se respirará el mismo ambiente de solemnidad que en esta catedral gótica de los siglos XII-XIV. La oscuridad se entremezclará con la luminosidad natural que penetra a través de los arcos laterales y, desde lo alto de la nave, 300 cabezas móviles de luz realzarán la verti-calidad del espacio. A modo de vidrieras, el techo estará equipado con 300 metros cuadrados de pantallas LED.

In the Dreams Tent, you will sense the same atmosphere of solemnity as in the Gothic cathedral, built over the course of the 12th to 14th centuries.

The darkness will intermingle with the natural luminosity that penetrates through the lateral arches and—from the top of the nave—300 mobile heads of light will enhance the space’s vertical qualities. By way of stained glass, the ceiling will be equipped with 300 square meters of LED screens.

Ombra, un proyecto que nace de la unión de WeAreWe y Oráculo Records, con el objetivo de crear un espacio para los amantes de los sonidos analógicos y vanguardistas que no tienen cabida en la oferta cultural actual. Ahora, el festival anuncia su segunda edición, que tendrá lugar los próximos 29 y 30 de noviembre en tres espacios de Barcelona: Utopia 126, Razzmatazz y Wolf Club.

En su primera edición en 2018 (esta vez en pequeño formato) el festival ya dejó claras sus intenciones: Ombra es un festival centrado en las corrientes darkwave, synthwave y la música industrial de aire experimental. Un evento al margen de las tendencias imperantes que cuida la calidad para proporcionar la mejor experiencia a los amantes de la música.

Para esta segunda edición, Ombra se dividirá en dos secciones. La diurna, Ombra by day, tendrá lugar en Utopia 126, la antigua fábrica modernista situada en Poblenou que, gracias a su estética sobria y a su arquitectura clásica refleja la filosofía del festival y su relación con esta música. La sección nocturna, Ombra by night, sucederá en Razzmatazz y Wolf Club, dos clubs ubicados en el mismo barrio para que resulte fácil la movilidad entre ambas franjas horarias.

Las 16 primeras confirmaciones de esta primera tanda no pueden ser más excitantes: de la revisión EBM de los alemanes Die Selektion a la contundencia sonora de Parrish Smith. Además, en el variado lineup destaca por méritos propios la legendaria formación francesa Trisomie 21, abanderados globales del cold wave, género que proviene del post-punk y abraza la instrumentación electrónica.

Sus melancólicas atmósferas beben The Cure, The Durutti Column y Joy Division. Tras 25 años de carrera, los hermanos Lomprez siguen en activo, editando música y haciendo numerosas giras.

Born from the union of WeAreWe and Oracle Records, Ombra is a project that aims to create a space for lovers of analogue and avant-garde sounds that have no place in the current cultural offer. Now, the festival is announcing its second edition, which will take place on November 29 and 30 in three spaces in Barcelona: Utopia 126, Razzmatazz and Wolf Club.

In its first edition in 2018 (in a small format at that time) the festival already made clear its intentions: Ombra is a festival focused on trends such as darkwave, synthwave and experimental-style industrial music. It’s an event that is outside of the prevailing trends that focuses on quality in order to provide the best experience for music lovers.

For this second edition, Ombra will be divided into two sections.

The daytime one, Ombra by day, will take place in Utopia 126, the old modernist factory located in Poblenou that, thanks to its sober aesthetics and classical architecture, reflects the philosophy of the festival and its relationship with this music. The night section, Ombra by night, will take place at Razzmatazz and Wolf Club, two clubs located in the same neighborhood to ensure easy mobility between the two time slots.

The first 16 confirmed artists for this first round could not be more exciting: from the German EBM review, Die Selektion, to the powrful sounds of Parrish Smith. In addition, the varied line-up includes the legendary French formation Trisomie 21, who stand out on their own merits as standard bearers of cold wave, a genre that has emerged from post-punk, embracing electronic instrumentation. Its melancholic atmospheres hark back to The Cure, The Durutti Column and Joy Division. After a 25-year-long career, the Lomprez brothers are still active, editing music and doing numerous tours.

JBEN ES UN ARTISTA FRANCÉS QUE HACE OBRAS EFÍMERAS EN LA ARENA DE LA PLAYA A GRAN ESCALA. OBRAS QUE SE INTEGRAN CON EL ENTORNO Y QUE DESAPARECEN CON LAS OLAS. ¿CUÁNDO EMPEZASTE A HACER ESTE TIPO DE TRABAJO CON ARENA DE PLAYA? ¿TUVISTE ALGUNA INFLUENCIA O EXPERIENCIA PARA COMENZAR A ESPECIALIZARTE?

DID YOU START DOING THIS KIND OF WORK WITH SAND FROM THE BEACH? WAS THERE ANY INFLUENCE OR EXPERIENCE THAT MADE YOU START SPECIALIZING IN THIS ART?

¡Hola! Tengo 38 años, soy director de proyectos y diseñador web, que también ha trabajado como artista de “arte de playa” durante los últimos 4 años, principalmente en la zona de Charente-Maritime, en el centro oeste de Francia. Me apasionan diferentes formas de arte, descubrí este tipo de arte inusual y desconocido a través de internet, donde encontré a Andrés Amador, uno de los pioneros en este campo. Este descubrimiento fue para mí una revelación. Sé muy bien como trabajar con la arena, ya que trabajé durante muchos años desarrollando mis habilidades como escultor y animador para el campeonato mundial de mármol. Mi pasión por los drones me llevó a construir mis primeras máquinas, con las cuales pasé un tiempo practicando el pilotaje para poder hacer mis primeras pruebas en fotografía aérea y filmación. Como los dibujos en arte de playa a veces pueden cubrir una superficie de hasta diez mil pies cuadrados, usar un dron para capturar estas obras de arte tiene sentido. Es por esto que decidí hacer mis primeras pruebas, lo que resultó ser un comienzo muy prometedor.

Pasé algún tiempo trabajando en proyectos más ambiciosos para comprobar mis límites.

Hello! I am 38 years old project manager and web designer who also works as a “beach art” artist for the past 4 years, mainly in the Charente-Maritime area, in the central west of France.

I am a Passionate by different art form, I discovered this unusual and unknown type of art through research I did on internet, where I found Andres Amador, one of the pioneers in this field. This discovery was for me a revelation. I know well about working with the sand, as I worked for many years developing my skills as a sculptor and animator for the world marble championship. My passion for the drones led me to build my first machines, with which I spent some time practicing the pilotage in order to do my first tests in aerial view photography and filming. As the drawings in beach art can sometimes cover me a surface of up to ten thousand square feet, using a drone to capture these artworks made sense. It is because of these reasons that I decided to do my first tests, which happened to be very promising start. I spent some some time working on more ambitious project in order to test my limits.

¿ESTÁS BUSCANDO PLAYAS DONDE LAS CONDICIONES SEAN FAVORABLES, O SIMPLEMENTE CUALQUIER LUGAR DONDE HAYA ARENA CON QUE PUEDES HACER UN TRABAJO? Encontrar el lugar adecuado para hacer un dibujo puede ser bastante difícil a veces.

Siempre tienes que lidiar con la naturaleza.

Día tras día, la arena de la playa se está moviendo y el lugar no queda igual cada vez.

A veces, vas a un lugar particular y cuando descubres la playa, tienes que moverte a otro por muchas razones: la arena no es suave debido al viento o, a veces, está sucia debido a la contaminación o incluso a veces la playa está arruinada por la gente que camina, hace deporte, monta a caballo o algo así. Pero también tengo mis lugares preferidos que son en su mayoría dibujables.

Especialmente la playa de La Grande Côte en Charente - Maritime donde los búnkeres de la segunda guerra siguen estando allí después de todos esos años.

¿CUÁNTO TIEMPO CALCULAS PARA HACER UN TRABAJO DE LAS CARACTERÍSTICAS QUE VEMOS EN LAS FOTOS?

Entre 1 y 4 horas, dependiendo de la complejidad del dibujo o incluso del tamaño y también de la densidad de la arena y, sobre todo, de las mareas. Cuanto más alto es el coeficiente de la marea, mayor es el espacio que tengo en la playa para hacer un dibujo. Llevo 5 años dibujando en la playa

y he hecho unas 200 piezas. Intento ir a la playa todo lo que puedo, dependiendo de las mareas bajas y del clima también.

¿ALGUNA VEZ TE HA OCURRIDO QUE LLEGA UNA OLA, EL VIENTO O ALGÚN FENÓMENO EXTERNO QUE TE MOLESTA POR TODO EL TRABAJO QUE HAS HECHO? Trato cada vez de trabajar en las mejores condiciones, pero a veces, por ejemplo, el viento se vuelve más fuerte mientras dibujas y puede soplar el dibujo debido a la arena seca que cubre el dibujo. Así que tienes que salir de la playa sin terminar la pieza y simplemente dejarla ir.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR BEACHES WHERE THE CONDITIONS ARE FAVOURABLE, OR JUST ANYWHERE WHERE THERE IS SAND THAT LETS YOU DO AN ARTWORK? Finding the right place to make a drawing can sometimes be quite difficult. You always have to deal with nature. Day after day the sand on the beach is moving and the place is not really the same each time. Sometimes you go on a particular spot and when you discover the beach you have to move to another for many reasons: the sand is not smooth because of the wind or sometimes it’s dirty because of the pollution or even sometimes the beach is

ruined by people walking, making sport, riding horses or something else. But I also have my favourite spots that are mostly drawable. Especially the beach of La Grande Côte in Charente-Maritime, where bunkers from the second war are still there after all those years.

HOW LONG DO YOU ESTIMATE IT TAKES TO MAKE A WORK OF THE CHARACTERISTICS THAT WE SEE IN THE PHOTOS? Between 1 and 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the drawing or even the size and also the density of the sand and most important the tides. The higher the tidal coefficient,the more space I have on the beach to make a drawing. I’ve been drawing on the beach for 5 years now and I have made about 200 pieces. I try to go to the beach as much as I can, depending on the low tides and the weather as well.

HAS IT EVER HAPPENED TO YOU THAT A WAVE COMES OR THE WIND OR SOME EXTERNAL PHENOMENON MESSES UP ALL THE WORK YOU’VE DONE? I try every time to work with the best conditions, but sometimes, for example, the wind becomes stronger as you are drawing and can erase the drawing because of the dry sand that lands on the drawing. So you have to leave the beach without finishing the piece and just let it go.

¿PUEDES EXPLICAR A LOS LECTORES QUÉ MATERIALES UTILIZAS PARA HACER QUE TUS OBRAS SEAN TAN PERFECTAS ¿QUÉ TÉCNICAS USAS? ¿IMPROVISAS O TIENES TODO PLANEADO ANTES DE HACER UNO DE TUS DIBUJOS EN LA ARENA? Uso dos rastrillos en los que puedo cambiar las garras.

Uno de mis rastrillos tiene atada una cuerda de 40m. Con un pequeño palo plantado en la arena en el centro, este bastidor me permite dibujar círculos del diámetro que quiera. Con un círculo puedes dibujar todas las cosas geométricas, por lo que es importante tenerlo cuando estás trabajando en un proyecto que se parece a los “círculos de las cosechas”. A veces se preparan las piezas en papel, especialmente cuando trabajo con diseños complejos. A veces no está preparado, simplemente voy a la playa porque es el momento adecuado y luego dejo que la sensación venga para dibujar algunas cosas a mano libre.

Las piezas más grandes tienen alrededor de 60m de diámetro. Hice algunas en la playa de Nauzan, ubicada en Vaux-Sur-Mer. Pero a veces hago piezas largas que pueden ser de 100m de largo o más, dependiendo de qué lugar la playa me permita trabajar. Tenemos hermosas playas aquí en CharenteMaritime que tienen varios kilómetros de largo. No hago este tipo de piezas a menudo, pero sucede 2 o 3 veces al año.

¿ERES CAPAZ DE DIBUJAR CUALQUIER TIPO DE DISEÑO O TIENEN QUE TENER CARACTERÍSTICAS ESPECIALES? Intento explorar cualquier tipo de diseño y puedo hacer muchas cosas.

Realmente no tengo límites, pero los más difíciles de reproducir son los diseños con muchos tonos, por ejemplo. Es mucho más difícil hacer sombras en la playa. No es imposible pero no es como trabajar en papel.

Your best concert was at? I went to a lot, but I think about a concert of Propagandhi, a famous punk rock band I saw a few months ago in Angouleme.

Your favourite destination for a getaway? I think I have to return to Portugal to explore more of the beaches they have over there.

YOU EXPLAIN TO READERS WHAT MATERIALS YOU USE TO MAKE YOUR WORKS AS PERFECT AS THEY ARE? WHAT TECHNIQUES DO YOU USE? DO YOU IMPROVISE OR HAVE EVERYTHING PLANNED BEFORE MAKING ONE OF YOUR DRAWINGS IN THE SAND? I use 2 rakes on which I can change the claws. One of my rakes has a 40m rope attached to it. With a little stick planted in the sand in the centre, this rack allows me to draw circles any diameter I want.

With a circle, you can draw all kinds of geometric things, so it’s important to have it when you’re working on a project that looks like crop circles.

Pieces are sometimes prepared on paper, especially when I work on complex designs. Sometimes it’s not prepared; I just go to the beach because it’s the right time and then I let the feeling cometo draw some free hand stuff.

HOW MANY SQUARE METRES WAS THE BIGGEST WORK YOU’VE EVER DONE? WHERE WAS IT? HOW OFTEN DO YOU DO THIS KIND OF WORK? The biggest pieces are around 60m in diameter. I did some Nauzan beach located in VauxSur-Mer. But sometimes I do long pieces that can be 100m long, or more, depending on what place the beach allows me to work.

We have nice beaches here in Charente-Maritime that are a few kilometres long. I don’t do often these kind of pieces, but it happens 2 or 3 times a year.

ARE YOU ABLE TO DRAW ANY KIND OF DESIGN OR DO THEY HAVE TO HAVE SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS? I try to explore any kind of design and can do lot of things.

I don’t really have limits, but the most difficult to reproduce are designs with lots of shading, for example. It’s way more difficult to do shade on the beach. Not impossible, but it’s not like working on paper.

Lo primero de todo, para los que no sepan qué son los “alimentos km0” hay que decir que son los productos/alimentos que, hasta llegar a tu plato, han viajado menos de 100 km. Hasta aquí parece fácil, quizás para una isla como Ibiza o Mallorca, 100 kms son muchos, pero para ciudades como Madrid o Barcelona, son muy pocos.

La finalidad de este tipo de alimentos es la de dar soporte a la fabricación y elaboración local de productos, la de que confiemos más en consumir una naranja de la frutería local y tradicional, que la de una que a recorrido cientos de kms para llegar a nuestra casa.

En las grandes ciudades ya hay tiendas de alimentos “km0” o también llamados alimentos de proximidad, que intentan dar demanda a los ciudadanos que quieren productos/alimentos orgánicos, ecológicos y que saben que son alimentos que no han sufrido tanto tratamiento para llegar a nuestro frigorífico o cocina.

Alime Otra de las razones del auge de estos alimentos, es la de intentar cuidar nuestro planeta.

Un país como España, importa anualmente 25 millones de toneladas de alimentos, lo que supone una emisión de cuatro millones de toneladas de dióxido de carbono, el principal gas responsable del efecto invernadero, que tanto mal esta causando.

Las diferentes reivindicaciones que actualmente se están dando para que supermercados y grandes almacenes, eliminen plástico y materiales contaminantes de los alimentos, hacen que tanto los mercados/ tiendas de carretera con su propio huerto, o restaurantes con sus propios alimentos, estén creciendo en ventas en los últimos años.

Esta claro, que todo son ventajas con los alimentos “km 0” ya que apoyamos la escena/ mercado local, reducimos las emisiones de CO2 y favorecemos a mantener un tejido agrario vivo y, sobre todo y más importante, nos alimentamos mejor.

First of all, for those who do not know what zero food miles are, it should be pointed out that it refers to products/foods that have travelled less than 100 km to reach your plate.

So far so easy when you are talking about an island such as Ibiza or Mallorca where 100 kms are quite a lot, but for cities like Madrid or Barcelona, that is very little.

The thinking behind this kind of food is that it gives support to the local manufacture and production of produce and that we have greater confidence in eating an orange from a local, traditional greengrocer’s than in one that has travelled hundreds of kilometres to reach our home.

In the large cities, zero food mile or local food stores as they are also known already exist. They aim to supply citizens who want organic, ecological produce/foods knowing that they that have reached the fridge or kitchen without having undergone such an environmentally harmful process.

A whole range of different claims are being made to encourage supermarkets and large warehouses to get rid of plastic and contaminating materials from foodstuffs leading both markets/roadside shops with their own vegetable patch and restaurants with their own produce to increase their sales in recent years.

Climate change

It is clear that the zero food mile concept brings nothing but benefits because we support the local scene/market, reduce CO2 emissions and promote the maintenance of a living agricultural network while—above all and most important of all—eating better food.

Another reason for the rise of these kinds of foods is to try to take care of our planet.

A country such as Spain imports 25 million tons of foodstuffs per year, which means the emission of 4 million tons of carbon dioxide, the main gas responsible for the greenhouse effect that is having such devastating effects.

First of all, you were amazing the other day at our event in OD Barcelona!

LET’S START TALKING ABOUT YOU, ABOUT THE BEGINNINGS... WHEN AND WHERE DID YOU START TO FEEL THE ATTRACTION FOR ELECTRONIC MUSIC?

DID YOU IMAGINE BEING PART OF CREW LOVE? I did. I remember hearing a Soul Clap mix for the first time and deciding that they were going to be my mentors. I just knew haha it was weird. They really laid out the road for me to excel on my path. And Crew Love was really a unique collaborative musical incubator.

WE KNOW THAT YOU ARE AN ARTIST WHO IS NOT ONLY SATISFIED WITH MAKING MUSIC AND ACTING. CAN YOU EXPLAIN TO OUR READERS IN THE PROJECTS THAT YOU ARE IMMERSED?

It all started with a trip to Europe when I was 17 I visited my cousins in Switzerland and they took me to this club called Hive, I’m from California so at that age I had never experienced electronic music like that before. I had been a hip hop dj until then. That really opened my eyes....I took those ideas and experiences with me and started to integrate them into my music going forward and haven’t looked back.

I’m currently in grad school getting my masters at ELISAVA design school in Barcelona. I’m working with new mediums and immersing myself in the design world, expanding creativity beyond music. Also pumping energy into me and partner Emmett Kai’s new label UNISEX records.

WHEN DO YOU START TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE SOUNDS THAT CHARACTERIZE YOU? HOW DO YOU GET INTO THE WORLD OF PRODUCTION? I was just like every other kid my age that was into music, you had a laptop and whatever else you could manage to find. It’s this idea that I call creativity by any means necessary. I knew I had good taste it just took me a while to translate my ideas into music, which isn’t not an easy feat. With time and practice you develop your ear and if you’re truly an artist you’re infusing your work with your life experience. That’s always been really vital to me.

WHEN AND HOW DO YOU ADD YOUR VOICE TO SHOWS? IS THERE ANY IDEA OF SOMETHING YOU WANT TO TELL US? It ’s something that is very spontaneous. I use my voice a lot in my work so people usually want to hear me sing when I perform. I’ve found a tasteful way to perform my music while DJing and integrate it all together cohesively. Still working on a bigger live project.

La parte exterior, la “carcasa” del hogar: una estructura sobre pilares de hormigón y reforzada con acero estructural, con una fachada revestida de SATE y cubremuros de piedra, con cubiertas acabadas en tarima o piedra de Sinaí.

HOLA PAU ROCA, ERES UN ARTISTA MÍTICO DE LA ESCENA BARCELONESA. ¡UN PLACER TENERTE CON NOSOTROS! SABEMOS QUE ERES UN AMANTE DEL VINILO, ¿CUÁNDO COMPRASTE EL PRIMERO? ¿RECUERDAS CUÁL FUE Y EL AÑO? Me gusta pinchar en vinilo y compro música en ese formato, pero no soy un talibán del vinilo, la verdad. En realidad pincho mucho material en digital.

Muchos edits y música que no sale en vinilo. Dicho esto, el primer disco me lo debí comprar a los 17 años, es decir, en 2004. Probablemente algún Axis o Yoshitoshi, pero la verdad es que no recuerdo cuál fue. Lo que sí recuerdo es que el “Unreasonable Behaviour” de Laurent Garnier fue el primero que me regalaron.

Me lo regaló mi padre para mi 18 cumpleaños.

LLEVAS MUCHO AÑOS EN ESTO, ¿QUÉ OPINAS DE LA EVOLUCIÓN EN LA DIGITALIZACIÓN DE LA MÚSICA EN LOS ÚLTIMOS 15 AÑOS? Pues que era algo inevitable que pasara, y que como todo, tiene sus ventajas e inconvenientes.

Con la digitalización cualquiera con conexión a internet puede acceder a la música y eso es genial, pero también es verdad que si hablamos de música de baile hay muy poco filtro y cada vez cuesta más encontrar música relevante que se edite en formato digital. Creo que el vinilo, en cierto modo hace de filtro o criba por lo costoso y complicado que es sacar uno, y por eso lo más interesante que voy encontrando (en cuanto a música nueva) sale en vinilo.

BARCELONA ES UNA DE LAS CIUDADES DE ESPAÑA CON MÁS CULTURA DE CLUB. SIN EMBARGO, ¿HAY ALGO QUE NO TE GUSTE O CAMBIARIAS DE ELLA? ¿QUÉ ES LO QUE MÁS APRECIAS?

Cambiaría muchas cosas, empezando por las estúpidas leyes que nos obligan a bailar de noche y únicamente 6 horas. ¿En qué momento aceptamos que nos digan cuándo y cuánto podemos bailar? Es incomprensible. Pero por lo general, Barcelona es una ciudad maravillosa y por su tamaño, podemos estar contentos con los clubs que hay y la oferta nocturna. Hace algunos años era impensable que en una misma noche hubieran 4 o 5 propuestas de calidad el mismo día, y ahora es normal que suceda. Aún así, Barcelona podría ser un referente en Europa y se queda un poco a medio camino.

¿NOS PUEDES DECIR TUS 3 MEJORES JOYAS EN FORMATO 12” QUE NO CAMBIARIAS POR NADA DEL MUNDO? De entrada creo que los discos son relevantes por su valor emocional y personal, y no por su valor económico. Estoy un poco harto de los precios de ciertos discos en Discogs, así que os diré tres discos baratos pero que no podría desprenderme de ellos. Por ejemplo, el “Untitled” de Chez Damier (KMS 049) por lo que significa para mi la persona que me lo regaló, y por quién es Chez Damier, que se ha convertido en un amigo en los últimos años.

Luego el “Let Me Love You” de Bunny Mack (Rokel, 1979), porque me recuerda a uno de los mejores días de mi vida. Y para acabar el álbum Dummy de Portishead, de 1994.

¿Tiénes algún proyecto futuro?

2018 ha sido un año durísimo para mi en lo personal, quizá el peor de mi vida, por lo que no le he podido dedicar el tiempo que requería a mi sello, Bons Records.

Así que en 2019 - 2020 volveremos a sacar música, seguro. Y luego tengo dos Eps cerrados con música mía en dos sellos que me hace especial ilusión, pero por el momento no puedo decir mucho más.

Harads is a tiny village consisting of just 501 inhabitants located in the district of Boden, in Sweden, approximately 50 kilometres south of the Arctic Circle.

This beautiful, cold place is already well-known for having one of the strangest, most surprising hotels, the Treehotel which—as its very name suggests—is a house in a tree. With its modern design, it lies nestled in the very heart of nature beside the River Lule.

The hotel consists of just seven apartments, that is to say, it is made up of seven houses set in trees. Each one of them has its own design and a different story behind it. Mirrorcube, the Bird’s Nest, Cabin, Blue Cone, 7th Room, UFO and Dragonfly are the names given to each one of the “suites”, which meet ecological criteria and enable the guest to experience the kind of sensation that we used to love when we were young: making a shelter, hiding oneself and now living and sleeping in a tree top.

En el arte de la música, ese que va tan unido a la isla, surgió el grupo local, Los Diana, formado a finales del año 1965.

In the art of music, the one that goes hand-in-hand with the island, a local group emerged, Los Diana. It was formed towards the end of 1965 .

Corrían finales de los años 60, cuando la isla de Ibiza comenzaba a tener cierto protagonismo internacional como lugar de vacaciones para unos, y retiro “espiritual o de inspiración” para muchos otros.

La palabra turismo aún quedaba lejos de su uso como hoy en día popularmente la conocemos. Aquella Ibiza de los años 60, en un país sumergido en una dictadura y en los que los artistas eran más perseguidos que admirados, conseguía ser madriguera para el arte en todas sus vertientes.

Towards the end of the 60s, the island of Ibiza was beginning to become well-known internationally as a holiday destination for some and a “spiritual retreat or source of inspiration” for many others. Use of the word ‘tourism’ still remained largely unknown with respect to the way we use it nowadays. That Ibiza of the 60s, in a country that was submerged in a dictatorship in which artists were more persecuted than admired, managed to become a hideout for art in all its aspects.

Los Diana tuvieron un repertorio de 200 canciones, la mayoría de ellas “covers” pero sin olvidar algunas de sus composiciones propias, obra de Narciso Torres, que conseguía dar el toque de pop de garage español a uno de los primeros grupos que se recuerdan en la isla.

Los Diana had a repertoire of 200 songs, most of them “covers”. However, it should not be forgotten that some were their own compositions, the work of Narciso Torres, who managed to give a touch of Spanish garage pop to one of the first groups that can be remembered on the island.

Hemos aprovechado la ocasión para hablar con uno de sus componentes, Joan Ferrer, para recordar los comienzos de este mítico grupo de la isla.

ENTERVISTA CON JOAN FERRER TUR ¿CUÁNDO Y CÓMO DECIDÍS QUE VAIS A MONTAR UN GRUPO? ¿QUÉ RELACIÓN TENÍAS CON EL RESTO ANTES DE SER LOS DIANA?

¿CUÁNDO SE OS EMPIEZA A RECONOCER Y EMPEZÁIS A NOTAR EL ÉXITO? ¿HUBO UNA CANCIÓN QUE OS HIZO FAMOSOS?

Bueno nosotros éramos de toda la vida de Ibiza, éramos niños. Nos decidimos juntar para pasar el rato. Pepe Tur, Tito, Juanito, Narciso Torres el último en incorporarse a la formación, encargado de los teclados y compositor, que por desgracia ya nos dejó, y yo, Joan Ferrer el menos músico de todos (risas).

Nosotros siempre fuimos un grupo de amigos, los cuales solo nos juntábamos por y para disfrutar de hacer música. Teníamos cada uno su trabajo y nos juntábamos para desconectar y pasarlo bien, era simplemente un hobbie. No nos dábamos cuenta de lo que estábamos formando. Llegó un momento en el que ganábamos más dinero que con nuestros propios trabajos.

¿CUÁLES ERAN LOS MAYORES PROBLEMAS QUE EXISTÍAN EN AQUELLOS AÑOS CON LA CENSURA?

Aquella época, allá por el año 65 eran tiempos franquistas pero Ibiza parecía no estar bajo el franquismo. La isla era tranquila, nunca tuvimos problemas de nada. Es más, los vecinos dejaban las puertas de sus casas abiertas o las llaves puestas porque aquí no ocurría nada por lo que hubiese que preocuparse.

Quizás nos preocupábamos cuando tocábamos en la primera discoteca de Ibiza, Mar Blau, que alguien se ponía en la puerta para avisarnos si venía la Guardia Civil.

En cuanto a la canción, Sa Fauç efectivamente fue el primer bombazo. La creó Narciso que fue el primero que se marchó a crear su familia. No supimos nada de él, solo que le fue bien, ya luego nos enteramos de que había fallecido. Por cierto, su hijo me llamó hace pocas semanas y verdaderamente me hizo mucha ilusión. Fue una llamada muy bonita.

AND WHEN DID YOU DECIDE THAT YOU WERE GOING TO START A GROUP? WHAT RELATIONSHIP DID YOU HAVE WITH ONE ANOTHER BEFORE BECOMING LOS DIANA? Well, we were kids and we had all grown up together in Ibiza. We decided to join up so that we could hang out. Pepe Tur, Tito, Juanito and Narciso Torres, who was the last one to join the group. He was the keyboardist and composer. Sadly to say, he is no longer with us.

Then there was me, Joan Ferrer, the least musical of them all (laughs).

WHAT WERE THE GREATEST PROBLEMS EXISTING IN THOSE YEARS AS FAR AS CENSORSHIP WAS CONCERNED? In that era, around about the year 1965, it was the time of Franco, but Ibiza did not seem to be under the dictatorship. The island was peaceful; we never had problems of any kind. What is more, the neighbours used to leave the doors of their homes open or with the keys in them because nothing happened here that you had to be worried about.

Perhaps we were worried when we used to play at the first disco in Ibiza, Mar Blau, but someone would stand at the door to warn us if the Civil Guard was coming.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST BEGIN TO GET NOTICED AND START TO BE SUCCESSFUL? WAS THERE A SONG THAT MADE YOU FAMOUS? We were always a group of friends that just used to get together in order to enjoy making music. Each one of us had a job and we used to get together to switch off and have a good time: it was just a hobby. We did not realise what we were creating. The moment came when we were earning more money than with our own jobs.

With regards to the song, “Sa Fauç”, it was in effect the first big hit. It was created by Narciso, who was the first one to go off and start a family. We never heard from him again, except that things went well for him. Afterwards, we found out that he had died. By the way, his son called me a few weeks ago and I was really happy to hear from him. It was a really nice call.

¿SALISTEIS ALGUNA VEZ DE LA ISLA PARA ACTUAR? ¿EN QUÉ LUGARES TOCASTEIS? ¿ALGÚN LUGAR FAVORITO?

SI TUVIESES QUE DEFINIR TUS MEJORES AÑOS CON LA MÚSICA EN ESTA ISLA CON UNA PALABRA, ¿CUÁL SERÍA?

No queríamos salir de Ibiza. Éramos de aquí y nos gustaba tocar en casa, no nos faltaba el trabajo y a parte, realmente, nos dedicábamos a otra cosa. Cuando terminamos nuestro primer disco, tuvimos la oportunidad de tocar por toda la costa de Levante. En la misma casa de discos nos presentaron unos contratos ofreciéndonos mucho dinero para aquel entonces pero éramos muy jóvenes y seguramente nuestras madres nos hubiesen cogido de las orejas si nos llegamos a ir. Además, no podíamos faltar a nuestros trabajos. En Ibiza estábamos en todos los lugares, como por ejemplo Sa Tanca, dónde también actuaba Julio Iglesias.

Wow! Que pregunta más difícil, no podría definirlo en una sola palabra. Simplemente era otra época, era otra época más familiar, era una época más sana, más natural de lo que hay ahora hablando en todos los sentidos, en todos... todos.

Eso sí, puedo decir orgulloso que fuimos el primer grupo de música que tocó en la isla de Formentera. ¡Hicimos historia!

¿QUIÉN COMPONÍA? La mayor música la componía Narciso, era el más músico de todos.

¿CUÁNDO Y DÓNDE FUE VUESTRA ÚLTIMA ACTUACIÓN? ¿PUEDE SER QUE OD GROUP ESTÉ DETRÁS VUESTRA PARA UN CONCIERTO PARA FINAL DE VERANO? Bueno, la última actuación fue un Revival, de hecho creo que tengo un vídeo en lo que es ahora el Casino de Ibiza.

Allí vinieron 700 personas y no cabía nadie más por lo que tuvimos que hacerlo otro segundo día. Nos reunimos un grupo de amigos, de músicos.

En cuanto al concierto a día de hoy no lo veo factible. Ha pasado mucho tiempo, más de cincuenta años y las relaciones entre todos no son las mismas.

WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT THE LATE 60S IN IBIZA? WHAT WAS IT LIKE? Ibiza was interesting, to say the least. There was a lot of really good music about. There were musicians everywhere, all going round with their instruments and it created a good atmosphere.

HOW HAVE YOU PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED PROGRESS IN IBIZA? WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT EVERYTHING THERE IS TODAY THAT DID NOT EXIST BEFORE? Things have progressed in a natural way. Previously, very important people used to come. For the last 30 years in Ibiza, people have been saying that there would be a crash, that the bubble was going to burst, but the years go by and there just seems to be more and more, or at least, that’s what I think. Hotels, restaurants, tourism…

¿QUÉ RECUERDAS A FINALES DE LOS AÑOS 60 EN IBIZA? ¿CÓMO ERA? Ibiza era interesante cuanto menos. Había mucha oferta musical realmente buena. Eran todos músicos, todos iban con sus instrumentos y se creaba una buena atmósfera.

¿CÓMO HAS VISTO Y VIVIDO EL PROGRESO DE IBIZA? ¿QUÉ OPINAS DE TODO LO QUE HAY AHORA QUE ANTES NO EXISTÍA? La progresión ha ido de forma natural. Antiguamente venía gente muy importante. En Ibiza desde hace 30 años se dice que va a ver un crack y que la burbuja explotaría pero los años pasan y cada vez todo va a más o al menos pienso yo así.

Hoteles, restaurantes, turismo...

AHORA MISMO, ¿QUÉ ES LO QUE TE GUSTA DE LA MÚSICA ACTUAL? La música actual no tiene nada que ver con la buena música. Si yo no encuentro a un grupo que toca en vivo, no lo considero música puesto que no la están haciendo en el mismo momento. Necesito una batería, una guitarra, un bajo... cualquier instrumento me vale.

La música de ahora me parece muy repetitiva pero, al fin y al cabo, es lo que la juventud quiere y lo que se vende así que es igual de valorable.

WHERE AND WHEN WAS YOUR LAST PERFORMANCE? COULD IT BE THAT OD GROUP IS AFTER YOU TO PERFORM A CONCERT AT THE END OF THE SUMMER? Well, the last performance was a revival; in fact, I think I have a video filmed in what is now Ibiza Casino. 700 people came to it and there was not room for anyone else, which is why we had to give another one the next day. It was a group of friends, of musicians meeting up. As far as a concert nowadays is concerned, I don’t regard it as feasible. A long time has passed—more than 50 years—and the relationships among us all are not the same.

DID YOU EVER LEAVE THE ISLAND TO PERFORM? WHERE DID YOU PLAY? WHERE WAS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE? We did not want to leave Ibiza. We were from here and we liked playing at home. There was no shortage of work and, apart from that, really we were devoted to something else. When we finished our first record, we had the chance to play all along the east coast.

In the record company itself they presented us with some contracts offering us lots of money at that time, but we were very young and our mothers would no doubt have taken us by the ears if we had gone so far as to leave (laughs). What is more, we could not leave our jobs. In Ibiza we were everywhere, everywhere there was like, for example, Sa Tanca, where Julio Iglesias also used to play.

But yes, I am proud to say that we were the first group to play on the island of Formentera. We made history.

WHO DID THE COMPOSING? Most of the music was composed by Narciso; he was the best musician of all.

RIGHT NOW, WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT CONTEMPORARY MUSIC? Music nowadays has nothing to do with good music. If I cannot find a group that plays live, I do not consider it to be music as they are not performing it at the same time.

I need drums, a guitar, a bass… any instrument is enough for me.

Today’s music seems very repetitive but, at the end of the day, it is what young people want and what sells, so it is equally valuable.

IF YOU HAD TO DEFINE YOUR BEST YEARS PLAYING MUSIC ON THE ISLAND IN ONE WORD, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Wow! What a difficult question; I could not define it in just one word. It was simply another time; it was a more familiar era, one that was healthier and more natural than what there is now, speaking in absolutely all senses.

ABOUT YOUR PODCAST_ What do we find in your podcast for our radioshow?

I try to conceive my podcasts as a journey from a particular state of mind to another, let’s say from A to B but not in a linear way, neither under a single genre. In this case, the aim was to build the mixtape using some of the tracks I’ve been playing the most in my djsets for the last months, specially the ones from Spaniol, Armen Miran, Iorie, Mira, Sabo, KMLN or Be Svendsen, amongst others. I also made something I’m not really used to: to include my own music on it. In general, when I record a mixtape, I tend to exclude my own tracks, which is pretty senseless (I know). In this particular one, you’d find some of tunes I’ve released recently: Sanjay, Kirti or Salia Sahi. I just hope you enjoy the trip, guys.

TEST_ First place where you played?

I played at a club called Satellite club in Vauxhall, it’s not there anymore, we loved it at that time (1996-97).

Best club ever?

Best club I’ve played is deffo Panorama Bar. First time I played it was after Ralf Kolmann from Mobilee, I started at 4am went through until 8am - it was pretty magical, while being incredibly scary, back then I didn’t DJ on my own so much. Though to be honest I still sometimes get pretty nervous before I play. Close 2nd would probably be Alfresco Disco in Bristol, those dudes know how to throw a party, or Artwork’s boat party on the Thames with a boat full of absolute lunatics & a group of my mates was pretty fun.

Your best session was on?

My favourite time in a club was after that first gig at Panorama. I was flying on the adrenaline, and there was a group of friends with me, we stayed until 8pm Sunday night in the garden, then they kicked us out. The monday was pretty tough, flying back to London I was not in a good way.

The best Dj you’ve ever seen?

Best DJs - Chris Duckenfield opened my eyes to the idea of weaving together music from different eras, first time I heard him (another Panorama Bar moment) I was like “oh shit, I need to get back to school”. Also Maurice Fulton was pretty out there first time I heard him play - which was in a pub in Brixton. DJ Spen blew my mind once in US, crazy skilled playing music that I wouldn’t consider to be my thing but he was outrageous. Artwork is pretty fucking impressive too, wathcing him DJ up close always leaves me feeling i need to go home and practice.

If u were not dj, what you would be?

BI always wanted to be footballer, but i fear that ship may have sailed. I am a father, a husband, business owner and I’ll probably also do some teaching, as I love to share what I’ve learned.

Your favorite place in Ibiza?

I love Talamanca beach on a spring day. Not too crowded and the locals think it’s too cold to go in the sea, so you get it all to yourself. I also enjoying looking down at Es Vedra from the cliffs. I got married in San Rafael, so that also holds a special place in my heart.

I love to cook. It could be a special aubergine curry, or perhaps a seared filet of pork with fennel and garlic crust. Or something mexican, as fish taco with fresh gaucamole.

What equipment is missing in your study?

In my studio? I don’t think I’m missing anything, but new toys are always exciting. The Meris company out of california are making some disgustingly beautiful pedals, which I may or may not be ordering soon.

¿Cómo empiezas en el mundo de la música? Con ello no me refiero a ser dj o productor sino, ¿de qué forma te inculcaste? ¿Cuáles fueron tus influencias?

La música siempre ha sido algo que me a acompañado, en mis comienzos lo más divertido fue cuando tuve un par de bandas en la escuela con mis amigos. El rock es un estilo que siempre me gustó y enseñó que el trabajo en equipo es lo mejor que puedes hacer, a parte de que los sonidos de guitarras, batería y voces, transforman el espacio de una manera única.

Eres de Xalapa, una ciudad de México, ¿qué encontraste allí musicalmente hablando y qué te hizo continuar como músico? ¿Cómo ves la escena allí?

Xalapa es conocida por tener una variedad musical ecléctica, ahí puedes escuchar desde una orquesta sinfónica con mucha tradición, marimbas con sonidos regionales, bandas de jazz y algunas de rock. No me considero músico pero uno de mis sueños es tener una banda y esto de alguna manera es algo que me hace continuar en este mundo. La escena electrónica local se mantiene desapercibida, con potencial para ser algo importante dentro del país.

¿Nombrarías algunos productores de allí que habría que seguirles la pista o labels?

Claro, un gran amigo y músico, Polo Cházaro con sus proyectos Phantom Radio y Baby Kid Boy, sonidos súper buena onda.

Vemos que haces muchas colaboraciones con Rebolledo, y es que tu primera referencia fue en Hippie Dance. ¿Cómo y cuándo

fue el primer contacto que tuviste con él? ¿Qué te aporta a día de hoy?

La primera vez que conocí a Mauricio Rebolledo fue en Colonia, Alemania (a pesar de que somos de la misma ciudad), en un concierto dentro del festival Co/Pop, a la fecha es alguien al cual le tengo admiración y respeto tanto como músico, como persona.

Todo lo que se me ocurre, él es el primero en escucharlo.

RESIDENTE DE UNO DE LOS MEJORES CLUB DE MÉXICO, TOPAZDELUXE. ¿QUÉ ES LO PRIMERO QUE SE TE VIENE A LA CABEZA? ¿QUÉ TE HA APORTADO? ¿CÓMO ES UNA NOCHE ALLÍ?

Luces, amigos y muy buena onda... El TopazDeluxe me ha dado mas de lo que pueda contar, definitivamente es muy importante para mi el haber logrado ser residente de ese lugar. Si tienes ganas de escuchar una selección musical entregada al dancefloor estas en el espacio indicado, una noche cálida y divertida es lo que te espera.

Si de algo me siento agradecido y afortunado, es de haber sido invitado a ser parte del equipo Mayan Warrior, un fenómeno que va mas allá de ser un Art Car en Burning Man. Para mi el Mayan Warrior es un ejemplo de visión prospectiva y de filosofía, los valores que comparte son elementos que me recuerda por qué hago lo que me gusta y me ayuda a ser una mejor persona en el mundo y en el universo.

EN TU ÚLTIMO TRABAJO, EN EL QUE NADA MÁS Y NADA MENOS, SELLO DE DJ TENNIS (LIFE & DEATH), ¿QUÉ HA SIGNIFICADO PARA TI ESTE EP DÓNDE TE HAN REMIXADO ARTISTAS DE LA TALLA DE VITALIC O SUPERPITCHER? ¿QUÉ CREES QUE AHORA DESPUÉS DE ESTE LANZAMIENTOS ES DIFERENTE A ANTES DE SACARLO? Spaceship es el resultado de la primera vez que fui a Burning Man y es dedicada precisamente al Mayan Warrior, nave espacial que aterriza una vez al año en el desierto de Black Rock para compartir sonidos y lasers que motivan tus sentidos y tu imaginación.

La colección de Remixes es definitivamente increíble y jamás me hubiera imaginado el resultado, Vitalic lleva a otra escala la nave espacial, extendiendo en una proporción perfecta todos sus elementos, Fango captura el tema con una adaptación vintage cargada en ritmos energizantes, JD Twitch nos transporta a un viaje por el universo entre galaxias y nebulosas, mientras que Superpitcher cierra el disco con un par de temas que relatan una historia entre lo real y lo fantástico dejando claro un mensaje de armonía y poder. Es un disco que genera en mi una disposición optimista, con muchas ganas para seguir haciendo cosas nuevas.

This is a story about the love of music. And like almost all love stories, for YET! Records, it was love at first sight. It was 2016 and Sergio Parrado from Valladolid was playing alongside Tim Baker in the Dominican Republic. What is more, Sergio is a music journalist, so he took advantage of the trip to do a special report on the scene on the island. During those days, he stayed in the home of his good friend and great musician Ernesto Paredano, who introduced him to Jee Bear.

Esta es una historia de amor por la música. Y como casi todas las historias de amor, YET! Records nació con un flechazo. Corría el año 2016 y el vallisoletano Sergio Parrado actuaba junto a Tim Baker en República Dominicana. Sergio, además es periodista musical, así que aprovechó el viaje para hacer un especial sobre la escena de La Isla. Esos días se alojó en casa de su buen amigo y gran músico Ernesto Paredano, quien le presentó a Jee Bear.

Jee le invitó unos meses más tarde a Santo Domingo y Punta Cana para hacer un par de fechas juntos.

Unos días que aprovecharon para no salir del estudio y donde se forjó una gran amistad. Dos cabezas llenas de música y dos espaldas cargadas de trabajo y experiencia han sido los ingredientes del cóctel perfecto, y bien agitado, detrás de YET!, que ahora cumple su primer año de vida.

Cuando Sergio se muda de México a su España natal, concretamente a Valladolid, se une a Sergio Bennett (label manager) y Bayón (equipo de producción) para llevar

a cabo una serie de eventos. Pero tras varios choques con promotores locales, surge el plan de crear una marca propia. Así la bombilla de Sergio se enciende para recordar todas las ideas que Jee Bear le había contado en Punta Cana y la visión tan especial que tenía de la industria.

Pronto las llamadas entre España y República Dominicana se hacen constantes. El trabajo conjunto, divertido y excitante. Juntos saltaron todas las dificultades, desde elegir un nombre, buscar a todo el equipo que hoy es YET!, hasta definir una línea artística y gráfica adecuada. YET! era una realidad, y el 22 de julio de 2018 su primera referencia veía la luz.

En este primer ciclo se han dejado ver en el sello discográfico (nacido en la Luna, con base en América y Europa) grandes nombres de la escena como:

A few months later, Jee invited him to the Dominican Republic and Punta Cana to do a couple of gigs together. For several days they took the chance to stay in the studio, where a great friendship was forged.

The combination of two heads brimming with music and lots of hard work and experience were the ingredients for the perfect cocktail which—well stirred—gave birth to YET!, which now celebrates its first anniversary.

When Sergio moved from Mexico to his native Spain, Valladolid to be precise, he joined up with Sergio Bennett (label manager) and Bayón (production team) to organise a series of events. However, after several clashes with local promoters, the plan emerged to create their own brand. That was when the light went on in Sergio’s head and he remembered all the ideas Jee Bear had told him about in Punta Cana along with the special vision that he had for the industry.

Very soon, the calls between Spain and the Dominican Republic were becoming continual. Working together was fun and exciting.

Together they overcame all the difficulties ranging from choosing a name, and looking for the whole team that today is YET!, to defining the right artistic and graphic design.

YET! was a reality, and, on July 22, 2018, their first output saw the light of day. In this first phase, some of the scene’s big names such as Martin Eyerer, Kenny Glasgow, Mathias Kaden, Hector Couto, Shaun Reeves, Sascha Dive and Ray Okpara made their appearance on the record label (born on the Moon, based in Latin America and Europe).

It is always summer for YET! Records. After bringing a beautiful phase in Punta Cana to a close, their spacecraft transported them to Europe. After an unforgettable presentation at Pacha Barcelona’s Off Week, which took place just a few weeks ago consisting of a star lineup made up of the label’s members: Igor Vicente, Ray Okpara, Sascha Dive and Adapter, they are going to continue distributing their transnational beats in countries including Italy, Holland, France and Spain, where this month we will see them at Dreambeach Villaricos and three times on the island this season.

Siempre es verano para YET! Records. Y es que tras cerrar un lindísimo ciclo en Punta Cana sus naves espaciales les trasladan a Europa. Tras una presentación inolvidable en la Off Week de Pacha Barcelona, hace apenas unas semanas y con un lineup estelar compuesto por los integrantes del label: Igor Vicente, Ray Okpara, Sascha Dive, Adapter, Sergio Parrado y Jee Bear, seguirán repartiendo beats interestales en países como Italia, Holanda, Francia o España, donde les veremos este mes en Dreambeach Villaricos y tres veces en la Isla esta temporada.

SERGIO PARRADO & JEE BEAR ¿QUÉ RELACIÓN EXISTIÓ O MÁS BIEN EXISTE DE YET! CON LATINOAMERICA? ¿POR QUÉ SE DECIDE CRUZAR EL CHARCO PARA EMPEZAR ESTA GRAN AVENTURA ALLÍ?

JB: Creo que Latinoamérica es el futuro y donde están pasando muchas cosas. Que yo sea nativo de allí, creo que en cierto tiene parte de culpa (risas).

SP: Realmente YET! se desarrolla en ambas partes del charco. Al tener dos bases y oficinas nos resulta mucho más dinámico trabajar. Es gracioso, el equipo es de lo más dispar, gente de España, República Dominicana, México, Argentina y Perú formando equipo. Nuestra relación con Latinoamérica es muy especial, principalmente porqueMEET! se realiza en Punta Cana y en mi caso por que es mi segunda casa. Pero sí, todo es culpa de Jee Bear (risas).

¿QUÉ CREÉIS QUE APORTA YET! A LA ELECTRÓNICA LATINOAMETICANA? SP: A la internacional aporta frescura.

Muchos artistas ya conocen YET! Records y quieren sacar su música con nosotros por como tratamos cada release. Cuidamos absolutamente todos los detalles: arte, sonido, PR, remixes... Todo va programado con meses de antelación y eso es algo que a cualquier artista le gusta. Creo que esto ha surgido poco a poco y con el boca a boca.

JB: A la escena Latinoamericana, y concretamente a la Dominicana, aporta una gran plataforma en todos los sentidos. Seguiremos haciendo las cosas bien. Queremos brindar nuestra pasión por la música y hacer de YET! y MEET! una familia que crezca todos los días.

¿NOS CITARÍAIS LAS MAYORES SATISFACCIONES QUE HABÉIS SENTIDO CON MEET? JM: Ha pasado ya un año desde que mis socios Sergio y Jee me convencieron para crear un nuevo concepto y desarrollarlo bajo la imagen del sello. Un punto de encuentro en un lugar idílico en el mismísimo paraíso. Un nuevo camino para que tanto artistas, marcas y público se unan con el único objetivo de disfrutar de lo que amamos. Un largo y tortuoso camino para cambiar una forma de hacer las cosas, dar al público dominicano lo que estaba demandando y que ha terminado haciendo como suyo. El concepto día a día sigue evolucionando junto con la propia visión que cada uno de nuestros seguidores y seguidoras quiere aportar. Esto es muy bonito y satisfactorio.

¿CUÁLES HAN SIDO LAS MAYORES BARRERAS QUE HABÉIS TENIDO? JM: No podríamos estar más satisfechos de haber creado un sendero que ahora muchos empiezan a seguir, haciendo que una escena bonita pero maltrecha se vaya regenerando.

Un concepto con el que intentamos educar y ofrecer una alternativa diferente, y que en menos de un año hemos conseguido exportar y posicionar en una escena demasiado saturada y que junto con nuestro público y familia de artistas hemos situado en panorama internacional como un referente en el Caribe. MEET! Es solo una excusa para el gran encuentro y todo lo que está por llegar. ¿CÓMO SON LAS REACCIONES QUE TIENEN LOS ARTISTAS TANTO CON EL FESTIVAL COMO CON EL SELLO? ¿ALGUNA ANÉCDOTA PARA NUESTROS LECTORES? SP: Todos se portan muy bien y con la gran mayoría mantenemos una gran amistad así que no tenemos ningún favorito. Pero sí tenemos, y vuelvo a repetir, una gran familia.

Anécdotas hay muchas. Pero lo que siempre me emociona es el momento en el que después de tocar te llama el artista y te da un abrazo y dice -GRACIAS, por hacer esto posible, por elegir este lugar, por tratarnos tan bien y por saber lo que realmente necesitamos-.

Muchos promotores o agentes no lo pueden entender pero los artistas valoramos más los pequeños detalles, la humanidad, el compañerismo, la amistad, que el dinero. Se nota cuando algo realmente está hecho con mimo, como es el caso de MEET!”. ¿CÓMO VÉIS EL FUTURO CERCANO DEL SELLO? ¿Y DE MEET? ¿EXISTEN LAS FRONTERAS PARA VOSOTROS? JB: Seguir sacando buenos artistas que hacen música con pasión y hacer que la familia de YET! crezca con amor.

SP: ¡Eso es! Seguiremos trabajando como hemos trabajado hasta el momento, planificando todo con antelación y siempre buscando nosotros los artistas con los que nos sintamos cómodos y quieran formar parte de nuestra filosofía. Este verano, además, hemos empezado también con los showcases y están teniendo una gran acogida. Hemos estado en Barcelona y Nápoles en el mes de Julio y pronto estaremos en Canarias, París, Bristol y por todas las Baleares

What relationship existed, or rather, exists between Yet! and Latin America?

What made you decide to cross the pond to start this great adventure there?

JB: I think it’s the future and it is where a lot of things are happening and I think that the fact I am from there is also partly to blame (laughs).

SP: Actually, YET! is developing on both sides of the pond. By having two bases and offices, we find it is a much more dynamic way of working. It’s funny, the team is as varied as could be: people from Spain, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Argentina and Peru forming a team. Our relationship with Latin America is very special, mainly because MEET! takes place in Punta Cana and, in my case, because it is my second home. But, yes, it’s all Jee Bear’s fault (laughing).

In your opinion, what does Yet contribute to electronic music in Latin America?

SP: It brings freshness to the international scene. Many artists already know YET! Records and want to bring out their music on our label because of the way we treat each release. We take care of absolutely all the details: art, sound, PR, remixes...

Everything is scheduled months in advance and that is something that any artist appreciates. I think this has emerged little by little and by word of mouth.

JB: To the Latin American scene and, in particular, the Dominican Republic, it brings a great platform in every sense. We are going to keep on doing things well. We want to offer our passion for music, so that—out of YET! and MEET!—we make a family that grows day by day.

Could you mention what has given you greatest satisfaction with Meet?

JM: It’s already been a year since my partners Sergio and Jee convinced me to create a new concept and develop it under the label’s image. A meeting point in an idyllic place in paradise itself. A new way for both artists, brands and the public to come together with the sole objective of enjoying what we love. A long and winding path to change the way things are done, to give the public in the Dominican Republic what they were asking for and what has ended up making its own. The day-to-day concept continues to evolve along with the vision that each one of male and female followers wants to contribute. This is very beautiful and satisfying.

Together with our public and family of artists, we have located it on the international scene as a reference point in the Caribbean. MEET! Is just an excuse for the big gathering and everything that is yet to come!

How do the artists react both to the festival and the label? Do you have any stories for our readers?

SP: Everyone behaves very well and with the vast majority we have a great friendship, so we don’t have any favourites. But we do have, and I will say it again, a great family.

There are many anecdotes. But what always excites me is the moment when, after playing, the artist calls you and gives you a hug and says, “THANKS for making this possible, for choosing this place, for treating us so well and for knowing what we really need.” Many promoters and agents cannot understand it, but artists appreciate the small details: humanity, companionship, and friendship more than money. It shows when something is really done with care, as is the case with MEET! How do you see the label’s immediate future? And Meet’s? Do borders exist for you?

JB: To keep bringing out good artists who make music with passion and make the Yet! family grow with love.

SP: With Yet! We will continue working as we have worked so far, planning everything in advance and always looking ourselves for the artists with whom we feel comfortable and want to be part of our philosophy. This summer, what is more, we have also started with the showcases that have been really well received. We went to Barcelona and Naples in the month of July and we are soon going to the Canary Islands, Paris, Bristol and all over the Balearic Islands.

MEET! Festival is a meeting. A meeting of artists, of friends and of the public with a common aim: enjoying the music that they love in an incredible place. This same concept is coming to Ibiza on September 21 with a line-up that is completely curated by YET! Records y Fiesta&Bullshit.

It is going to have two openair stages and one indoor and the tickets will be priced so that they are within reach of anyone. Stay tuned!

What have been the greatest barriers that you have encountered?

JM: We could not be more satisfied to have created a path that many now begin to follow, bringing about regeneration to a scene that was beautiful but in a bad way. It’s a concept with which we try to educate and offer a different alternative, and that—in less than a year—we

Que sería del verano sin las diferentes fiestas populares de nuestros pueblos y barrios. Se podría decir que son las fiestas que esperamos durante medio año, y el otro medio, estamos recordando como lo pasamos en la última edición.

What would the summer be without all the different popular festivals that take place in our towns and neighbourhoods? You could say that we spend half the year waiting for these fiestas and the other half remembering all the fun we had at the last one.

La realidad es que todas las fiestas tienen su encanto, su personalidad y sus tradiciones pero aquellas que coinciden con el verano y encima en un barrio con tanta vida diaria y alma como es el barrio de Gracia en Barcelona, son de visita obligada para todos los que estén por la ciudad del 15 al 21 de agosto.

In actual fact, all these fiestas have their own charm, personality and traditions, but those which coincide with the summer and—on top of that—take place in a neighbourhood that is as brimming with daily life and soul as is the neighbourhood of Grácia in Barcelona are a required visit for all those who are in the city any time between August 15th to the 21st.

Estas fiestas comienzan con la lectura del pregón en la plaza Vila de Gracia desde el balcón de la sede del distrito. Es el pistoletazo de salida a la diversión y al entretenimiento para gente de todas las edades. Unas fiestas que si por algo se caracterizan es por el “tuneo” que se hace de la mayoría de sus calles.

Gracia se viste de gala, Gracia se convierte por estas fechas en un barrio diferente a cualquier otro. Sus vecinos, con mucha imaginación, piensan en adornar cada calle con una temática concreta.

Cosa que no se desvela hasta el inicio de la fiesta. Cada calle compiten por ser la más vistosa, la más colorida o la más auténtica pero siempre predomina la pasión, el colorido y la creatividad.

These fiestas get underway with a reading by the town crier from the balcony of the district’s headquarters in Plaza Vila de Grácia.

It is the starting signal for fun and entertainment for people of all ages. If there is one thing that typifies these festivities, it is the “makeover” that most of its streets undergo.

At this time, Grácia dresses itself up so that it turns into a neighbourhood unlike any other. With lots of imagination, its inhabitants decorate each street according to a particular theme - one which they keep secret up until the moment that the festivities start.

Each street competes to be the most striking, the most colourful or the most authentic one in a festival in which passion, colour and creativity are always at the forefront. Strolling around the neighbourhood is to walk through different universes that you can feel each time you turn the corner.

Se respira diversión y júbilo entre el gran número de actuaciones y conciertos programados, de diferentes estilos musicales, desde música tradicional a música electrónica o trap. Cada calle cuenta con su propio escenario donde la asociación de vecinos también es la responsable de la programación.

Además, también hay concursos, actividades y juegos infantiles para los más pequeños, sin olvidar los desfiles de disfraces y juegos.

Como en toda fiesta tradicional de España, la gastronomía juega un papel fundamental, si ya de por si el barrio es un auténtico universo de restaurantes locales y de comidas del mundo, durante estos días, con los diferentes puestos extra que se montan, dan para disfrutar de innumerables posibilidades, desde la clásica tapa sentado en una terraza, a comer unos tacos mejicanos mientras se baila al son de cualquier actuación.

Si estás en Barcelona durante esos días abre bien los ojos y fíjate en cada detalle del barrio porque todo lo que envuelve las fiestas de Gracia, es especial.

El barrio de Gracia limita con el Eixample. Para llegar al corazón del barrio, puedes llegar al metro de Joanic (L4), o en los ferrocarriles FGC en la estación de Gracia.

Fun and joy are in the air among the great number of programmed performances and concerts of every kind of musical style going from traditional music to electronic music or trap. Each street has its own stage where the residents association is also in charge of the programming. What is more, there are also contests, activities and children’s games for the little ones, not to mention costume parades and games.

As with every traditional fiesta in Spain, gastronomy plays a fundamental role. If the neighbourhood is already an authentic universe of local restaurants and food from around the world, during these days with the different stalls that are set up extra, you get the chance to enjoy countless options: from classic tapas to be eaten whilst seated on a terrace to eating Mexican tacos while dancing to the sound of any one of the performances.

If you happen to be in Barcelona during those days, keep your eyes open and take a close look at every detail in the neighbourhood because everything that the Grácia Festival involves is special.

The neighbourhood of Grácia adjoins the Eixample. To reach the heart of the neighbourhood, you can take the metro to Joanic (Line 4), or an FGC train to Grácia station.

Drink: there are many small breweries that bring out their latest craft beers during this period: discover new flavours.

ME PERDÍ, PERO HE VUELTO Y SEGUIRÉ TRATANDO DE SER OBJETIVO CON LAS COSAS QUE HAGO. HICISTE PÚBLICO HACE UN TIEMPO TU CAMBIO DE VIDA Y LOS PROBLEMAS QUE TUVISTE CON LAS DROGAS. TE QUERÍA PREGUNTAR SINCERAMENTE, ¿CÓMO UN AMANTE DE LA MÚSICA COMO TÚ, TIENE QUE LLEGAR A ESTAS COSAS? En mi adolescencia era un chico súper tímido, buscaba reconocimiento en algo... Buscaba de pasar desapercibido a demostrarle a la gente que tenía talento. La música me permitió hacer eso, pero cuando te conviertes en músico, es un mundo individual. Cuando me encierro en el estudio lo único que te acompaña es la tecnología, estás completamente solo. Luego toca expresar tu música y pasas de un mundo aislado a un mundo social muy grande dónde la noche es la que está ahí, dónde se brinda y se es parte de una comunidad que vive, piensa y ama lo mismo o de la misma forma que tú. Nunca fue de un modo de necesidad para ser quien soy, lo hacía para sentirme como la gente que me rodeaba, fue en ese aspecto. Pero el problema está cuando eso lo haces durante 20 años y lo haces 4 o 5 veces a la semana. Llega un momento en el que te das cuenta de que estás enganchado a algo de dónde cuesta mucho trabajo salir.

Hubo una temporada dónde lo más importante era lo que iba a tomar en por la noche, y en ese momento es cuando me perdí de verdad. Me perdí en el espíritu libre y creativo que siempre fui, ya que te distorsiona de la realidad, de lo que estas haciendo, de las amistades. Cuando estas así en el estudio haces cosas que piensas que son lo mejor y de forma objetiva no es nada bueno lo que estás haciendo. Caí en la distorsión de la percepción y no caí por intentar ser mejor, caí porque es muy fácil caer. Cuesta mucho cuando llegas a este momento mirarte al espejo y decirte a ti mismo que ya no eres la persona que persigue sus sueños. Cuando haces algo con tus manos y tu corazón que a la gente le hace vibrar es algo realmente increíble pero eso lo tienes que alimentar y trabajar duro con el máximo respeto y la máxima energía, sobre todo con la gente que te dice que saltes más alto sin sentido “y saltas y saltas y saltas” porque te fías pero luego la caída es realmente más grande porque te desvirtuaste.

Si nos vamos a la definición que nos da la Wikipedia, dice: Los deportes electrónicos o e-sports, son competiciones de videojuegos (en línea) que se han convertido en eventos de gran popularidad. Por lo general los deportes electrónicos son competiciones de videojuegos multijugador, particularmente entre jugadores profesionales. Which artist did you first see in a show?

Which artists or group do you remember from your childhood?

I remember driving to the east german baltic sea while listening to the Beatles and the Beachboys in a “Trabant” car. My father played this music quite a lot.

04 Who do you remember sharing a back to back with the first time?

Back in the days i only played Live Sets. I think first back2back Live was a set i played with Joris Voorn at the Click in Hamburg. I also played one with Paul Kalkbrenner on a Boat in Berlin. That was a really crazy night!

Which artist marked you to start in music?

In the beginning i was a really big fan of Techno & House from Chicago and New York. I bought every release from Relief Records, Cajual, Synewave, Proper and many others. I think a really influence for me in the beginning was the sound of Damon Wild, Steve Stoll, Joey Beltram and of course Jeff Mills.

Which artist would you party with? *FIESTA

When i started going out i was going to smaller club with local bookings. I really like the Hardwax crew. Rene, Pete & Electric Indigo played amazing sets! The first international artist i´ve seen was Steve Stoll at E-Werk Berlin.

06 Which artist disappointed you the most? * BULLSHIT Muse. I used to be a big fan.

But they turned into boring Stadion Rock.

I think best ones are already dead or boring.

08 07 Which artist did you like working with in the studio?

Oh there is so many. I´m a really big fan of Oscar Mulero, Reeko and Psyk. Would be interessting to see how they do their magic.

09 Which artist do you recommend to keep the track?

There is a lot of good new artists around. So much good music coming out. But for me one of the most underrated artists is Ray Kajioka. Check his music. He´s brilliant!

Which artist would you like to work with in the near future?

I just did some track with my friend Milo Raad from Belgrade.

This will be released soon.

Also i will record new track with Mario Berger. And i am always open for new session partners. It´s fun to work together in the Studio.

HOLA ARTUR AND BATISH. HOLA ARTBAT. HOW LONG HAD YOU BEEN WORKING ON MUSIC BEFORE YOU MET? WHAT WERE YOUR INFLUENCES? We working on music from 2010.

Before we met it was a long searching process to find a right way to create something, but when we met it was understandable from the first studio session that together we can do what we really like. Our influences were many talented people and iconic collectives such as Queen, Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Orbital and of course modern electronic music heroes.

WHEN DID YOU MEET AND HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO FORM THE ARTBAT DUO, HOW DID IT ALL START? TELL US ABOUT YOUR BEGINNINGS. We met on one event in Kiev in an underground club called THE LAB. We later started to play our first sets together. We both were searching for something new to try and decided to make a studio session together, it was a really good experience and a good result from the first time so we decided to look into the idea of making music together.

When we made a few tracks we understood that we wanted to share them with people and that’s how ARTBAT was born.

WHAT IS THE SCENE IN UKRAINE LIKE? HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INTO DANCE MUSIC, WHERE AND WHEN? The scene in Ukraine is growing every year with big steps. We don’t have many clubs here, but we have a few real competitive and high-quality locations with the best world artist bookings every week. Also, every year more festivals are coming and thousands of people are joining them and making club culture grow.

The people in Ukraine are very beautiful, open minded and kind, so it’s always a pleasure to take a part in parties and events here.

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR SOUND HAS THAT OTHERS DON’T HAVE? WOULD YOU CLASSIFY YOURSELVES IN ONLY ONE GENRE?

We don’t think about this, we just make music that we like to play in our sets, and when we see good feedbacks and reactions we then like to release tracks to share with electronic music lovers all around the world, as we feel that is our main mission. About genre, it’s hard to say, but it’s more close to melodic techno and house we think.

YOU HAVE STOOD OUT REMARKABLY WITH YOUR PRODUCTIONS. YOU ARE NOT THE SAME AS LAST YEAR. YOU’RE MUCH MORE ON EVERYONE’S LIPS THAN BEFORE AND THAT MEANS YOU HAVE MORE GIGS, WHICH MEANS YOU HAVE LESS TIME FOR THE STUDIO. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE YOURSELVES IN ORDER TO LAUNCH / PRODUCE THOSE TRACKS THAT YOU ARE DOING? Yes, now especially during the summer we have less time for studio work, but after our summer gigs and tour we are going to the studio and shall work on new productions.

We just finished updating our new studio, and brought new equipment and stuff that can help improve our sound and quality. This and big support from people at our events give us energy and inspiration to make new productions even with a full schedule.

YOU WERE GOING DOWN AN INCREDIBLE ROAD BUT THEN YOU GOT THE SO WELL RECEIVED CERCLE SHOW IN BRAZIL. WHAT DO YOU THINK IT BROUGHT YOU? WOULD YOU BE THE SAME WITHOUT IT? Cercle for us in one of the best memories and events so far, and we always wanted to take a part in one of them. For us it was a great opportunity to share our music and style for electronic music lovers and Cercle gave this to us. The guys from Cercle are doing a great job, making club culture and music grow and touchable around the world. Sure us and our music would be the same, but Cercle helps a lot to share it globally, thats why we respect them so much.

LAST YEAR WE SAW YOU ON DC10 / CIRCOLOCO LINE UP. THIS YEAR HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR PERFORMANCES ON THE ISLAND? WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT THIS PLACE? We totally are in love in ibiza, it’s atmosphere, vibe and people. When we got informed in winter/spring that some Ibiza gigs were confirmed we have big smiles on our faces and warm emotions coming from our minds. This year we are taking part in Pete Tong’s Sessions at Blue Marlin, joining Camelphat in Hï and playing on some private events on the island. This island has its own amazing and unique energy that we love to feel always.

WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU INVOLVED IN NOW? HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT GETTING YOUR OWN LABEL? We are focusing now on new productions, and we have some tracks in process and also for road testing now. Projects also in mind, but now it’s too early for sharing them.

YOU’RE NOMINATED FOR THE DJ AWARDS. IN ONLY 4 YEARS SINCE YOU GOT TOGETHER YOU ARE ALREADY AT THIS LEVEL. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THESE AWARDS? HOW DO YOU FEEL? WOULD YOU HAVE IMAGINED SUCH A THING IN SUCH A SHORT TIME? We are very happy about this, as we told before, Ibiza is the unique and special place for us, and we started to play here from the very beginning of our project 4 years ago.

Every summer is associated with amazing time here on the island. We like to spend time here both in the day and at night. We like to chill here and refresh before gigs and tours, and of course during the winter we have so many funny stories about our memories and experience that we have every season here. We never imagined this, but we are very happy to be a part in Ibiza life and feel all these emotions here.

Something that we really need to be inspired and happy.

theBasement es un grupo de 10 cabezas pensantes unidas por una misma causa, la pasión a la música de baile. Somos una combinación de diferentes personalidades con inquietudes comunes, a las cuales nos une también una amistad de muchos años.

Desde los inicios en 2012 no hemos parado de crear e innovar dentro de lo que a una promotora como tal se refiere, buscando siempre sorprender a los fieles y poder ofrecer un producto de calidad y cercano al público. Se trata de un 360º en el que eventos, radioshow y acciones con marcas se unen para darle el cuerpo a una de los nombres más potentes ahora mismo en Valencia. Sin duda uno de los que más arriesga al menos.

Tenemos grandes expectativas de seguir creciendo en este año y venideros, hay muchas cosas guardadas en la chistera que irán desvelándose en muy poco tiempo. Pero todo esto no sería posible sin todo oído que quiere escucharnos, toda cadera que quiere danzar con nuestros ritmos, toda esa gente incondicional que viene a cada uno de nuestros eventos aún a pesar de tener que desplazarse a localizaciones secretas fuera de la cuidad o cosas por el estilo... ¿Cuál fue primer contacto con theBasement?

Pues recuerdo que uno de los primeras acciones juntos fue allá por el 2012 y si no recuerdo mal la hicimos en un Coworking con terraza en el centro de Valencia. Fue algo especial y presagiaba que algo bueno estaba por venir.

¿Cómo definirías la actual situación de la electrónica en Valencia? La creo buena, desde mi punto de vista veo movimiento y pasos certeros. Veo que muchas promotoras están arriesgando por la ciudad. Veo progresión y buen hacer aunque siempre permanecen cosas de antaño como en cualquier sitio...

¿El mejor set que has disfrutado de theBasement? Pues me gustó mucho el set de Sugar Free en la jornada de sábado, muy movido y de calidad. ¡Todo bajo el Tipi!

¿El track que actualmente estás pinchando más? Will Saul & Tee Mango present Primitive Trust - Tejon (Tee Mango’s Dub).

¿Cuál fue primer contacto con theBasement?

El primer contacto que tuve con theBasement creo, aunque no estoy muy seguro, cuando nos juntamos para hacer pequeños eventos en streaming allá por el 2012.

¿Cómo definirías la actual situación de la electrónica en Valencia? Valencia vive un buen momento dentro de colectivos jóvenes que que están apostando en discotecas. Además han Discosmalvarrosa, ARA,

sus posibilidades, hay pisan fuerte y promotoras buscar espacios fuera de salido sellos nuevos como Sierrra, Presente...

¿El mejor set que has disfrutado de theBasement? Sin duda el último de theGhost en días de campo.

¿El track que actualmente estás pinchando más? Triad - Dub fight.

¿Cuál fue primer contacto con theBasement?

Antes de de theBasement existiera, ya que conozco a toda la crew de hace mucho. A partir de ahí he vivido sus inicios y les tengo un gran respeto por lo que están haciendo.

¿Cómo definirías la actual situación de la electrónica en Valencia? Muy acorde al auge de la escena a nivel general, tanto en propuestas de club/eventos como en diversidad de estilos. Por poner una pega creo que faltaría un festival referente a nivel nacional en dentro de capital.

¿El mejor set que has disfrutado de theBasement? El pre-fallas del pasado de marzo. ¡Los valencianos en fallas están muy predispuestos al salseo!

¿El track que actualmente estás pinchando más? ¡Me acabo de pillar a esta reedición de Marc Pharaoh en el sello de Omar S FXHE RECORDS es mel!

How would you describe your studio?

I have a modular studio. Not even one modular synth but a modular studio. Every single machine is connected to different patchbays, there are several different mixers (analog and digital), cascaded audio interfaces, different sequencers, etc. This way i can very fast experiment with sounds, route them through different effect units or samplers...

My studio gives me the possibility to work in basically three totally different ways:

First one is using the computer and Cubase as master sequencer and recording unit. Normally i am mixing single tracks within Cubase and routing 8 stereo stems to my digital mixer where i put hardware effects on it.

Second workflow is using a groove box like Akai MPC3000 for example as master sequencer and recorder,

In The Studio

Italo Brutalo that controls all synths and drumcomputers by clock or MIDI sync. When i do this i am mixing on an old analog rack mixer from the 90s, where i also add hardware effects, compressors, etc.

Third workflow is a mixture of the other two workflows. Syncing all the sequencers, using analog and digital mixers at once...

What are the most important machines over there?

The most important machines are my samplers indeed. When i started making music in 1995 the most important gear was a sampler.

I recorded lots of stuff from records because i had no money to buy drum machines and tons of synthesizers. This is what i am still doing it but also with sampling my synthesizers.

Most people don´t know about the possibilites and speci fic sounding of old samplers. In contrast to them synthesizers feel very limited to me. Where the synth

stops – the sampler starts. To name just a few: Akai MPC3000, E-MU Emax I, Ensoniq ASR-10, Akai S3200.

When you started to set it up, anything missing ?

I built several studios over the last decades due to the fact of moving around. This studio here i set up in 2015. All gear that i ever wanted is here.

Do you spend hours in front of the computer for working on details?

No i never did that. This bothers me. Instead of doing that i program new sounds on my machines.

Very often i record lots of sounds with effects on it. It´s a good way to go further. I am not a friend of having one billion possibilites till the end of the production process.

Do you use the same gear for every song you produce?

No i don´t.

I like switching units. To be honest i know that i have a „little“ choice of gear but sometimes it happens that i don´t use one of them for years and then rediscover it with a totally different point of view.

Why do you use hardware and no plugins?

It´s not the sound but the way of creating music. There are several softsynths that sound great but i need to touch the instruments.

It´s the same as making love: Touching and feeling a real person is million times better than watching porns on the (same) computer (you use for making music).

Any new projects you are working on?

Together with my girl friend I just started my own vinyl label called Bungalo Disco. First record will be out in October.

URSA MAJOR SPACE STATION One of the first digital effect units from the late 70s. More than 40 years later it´s still sounding fresh and deep. There are not many delays around that sound a characteristic like the Space Station does.

ENSONIQ ASR-10 Using it as filter and effects unit. The sound of it is amazing.

Everything processed by this machine sounds so much warmer and fatter. The reverbs are amazing.

ROLAND SRE-555 CHORUS ECHO The biggest space echo.

Not that well known but the biggest machine of Roland´s tape echo series. Got it from my father who bought it in the late 70s as guitar effect. The good thing here is that there are two separate outputs for reverb and echo what helps a lot in the mixing process.

Akai mpc300

ROLAND DEP-3 I bought it because of its coloured knobs. They have the same colours like the ones of my Jupiter-8.

After a while i played around with it and i loved it. Now i use it in most of my tracks for delay and bit crushing, that obviously every digital machine from the mid 80s does.

KORG POLY-800 MK2 Totally underrated synthesizer. Many people hate the interface and way of programming it.

I love it. The sound is great, sounds very warm and analog.

Akai MPC3000 Since 20 years i love this machine.

It´s the one that i would take with me on a lonely island if i could just take one single unit with me.

The sound, the workflow and the possibilites are superb and not that less limited as many people think. You can even program awesome resonant filter envelopes with it.

Lot´s of my tracks are just made with a few sounds i sampled in the MPC.

Dos cosas que odies o no te gusten: 1. No me gusta trabajar en un grupo sin un líder. Es decir cuando hay caos por todas partes y todo el mundo trata de imponer su voluntad en el otro.

2. No me gusta tratar con personas deshonestas, irrespetuosas y engreídas, y también con las que se quejan todo el tiempo y siempre tienen problemas y no soluciones.

Dos cosas que ames o te encanten: 1. La familia y principalmente mis dos hijas son el regalo más importante y valioso que la vida me ha dado. Por lo que una de las cosas que más me gusta es pasar tiempo con ellas.

2. Me encanta viajar y explorar nuevas cosas porque creo que la exposición a nuevos lugares y nuevas personas no solo nutrirá tu alma, sino también tu mente y te abrirá los ojos para ver cómo viven otras culturas y cómo funciona la vida en general, ya sea humana o natural. ¿Por qué trabajas en OD Group?

Me encanta trabajar en OD group porque el tono y el estilo de nuestra marca es algo que asocio profundamente. Tengo una gran admiración y respeto por la filosofía de nuestro líder.

SABEMOS QUE ERES ARGENTINA PERO QUE VIVES ENTRE BARCELONA E IBIZA. CUANDO EMPEZASTE A ESCUCHAR MÚSICA, ¿VIVÍAS ALLÍ? ¿QUIÉNES FUERON TUS PRIMERAS INFLUENCIAS? Comencé a escuchar música electrónica a los 18 años, antes de eso tuve un par de bandas de rock en las que participaba como cantante. Por ahora no vivo en un lugar fijo, estoy buscando mi lugar en el mundo. Mis primeras influencias fueron Sasha y Hernan Cattaneo.

¿POR QUÉ VOLK? CUÉNTANOS LA HISTORIA QUE HAY DETRÁS DE TU ALIAS. Como mi nombre real el Dulce, quise buscar un nombre un poco más fuerte. Siempre me han gustado mucho los lobos, por eso busque la palabra lobo en algún idioma que me gustase como sonaba, que fuera corto y fácil de pronunciar. Volk significa lobo en ruso.

¿QUÉ GUARDAS (MUSICALMENTE) DE CADA UNO DE LOS LUGARES EN LOS QUE HAS VIVIDO? Lo mejor de Barcelona fue cuando pinché en un evento al aire libre en un “street food” en Plaza de Palau, parecía que era algo tranquilo pero era Off Sonar, la plaza se llenó de gente (como 500 personas). Fue una de las sesiones que más disfruté, todo el mundo bailaba y se acercaban a preguntarme si era alguien famoso, fue muy divertido.

De Ibiza puedo decir que tienes la posibilidad de estar cerca de grandes artistas y hacer muchos contactos. Tiene muchos eventos importantes donde ver a tus djs favoritos.

¿CÓMO FUE LA EXPERIENCIA EN NUESTRO CONCURSO DE “JÓVENES TALENTOS” EN BARCELONA? Fue muy divertido, era la última en participar, estaba bastante ansiosa, escuché todas las sesiones, y al final fue mi turno.

Di lo mejor de mi, aunque fui con ganas de pasarlo bien, no de ganar.

¿QUÉ OPINAS DE ESTE TIPO DE EVENTOS? ¿ESPERABAS GANAR DE ENTRE LOS MÁS DE 200 PODCASTS QUE RECIBIMOS? Como dije en la pregunta anterior, iba con ganas de divertirme, no esperaba ganar, intento tener el ego controlado. Si todo sale bien genial y si no una experiencia más para guardar.

SABEMOS QUE HAS ESTADO VIVIENDO EN DIFERENTES CIUDADES Y QUE ESO TE HA DADO

MADUREZ, PERO ¿PODRÍAS EXPLICAR DÓNDE Y QUÉ TE HA DADO CADA LUGAR? De los lugares donde más experiencias tuve que me ayudaron a crecer fue en Barcelona, desde el día 1 en el que llegué y no conocía a nadie. Dejé toda mi vida y a familia en Argentina por la música.

Poco a poco fui haciendo contactos, siempre agradezco a mis profesores de producción musical por toda la sabiduría que me dieron.

As regards Ibiza, I can say that you have the chance to get close to great artists and make lots of contacts. It has many important events where you can see your favourite DJs.

En este mundillo siempre encontramos gente que nos quiere ayudar, pero también mucha gente que nos muestra buena cara y luego te dan la espalda, eso también te ayuda a evolucionar y ser mas fuerte. ¿QUÉ TE GUSTARÍA CONSEGUIR ANTES DEL 2020?

Me gustaría poder pinchar en un club de verdad, y poder expresar a la gente toda mi energía y mis sentimientos con mi música.

HAS LLEGADO A IBIZA ESTE VERANO. ¿CÓMO VES LA ISLA ESTE AÑO? ¿QUÉ FIESTAS TE GUSTAN MÁS? La verdad que este año la isla está más tranquila, no veo tanta gente como otros años. Un poco desilusionada de que haya tanto reggaetón, no me lo esperaba... Pero bueno, el mundo va cambiando y se ve que es complicado ir en contra de eso.

Igual siempre hay gente creando eventos muy top con buena música y buenos artistas, hay que seguir apoyándolos.

Por ahora la fiesta que más me gusta es Afterlife, y estoy esperando poder asistir a alguna de Resistance.

¿QUIÉN ES TU PRODUCTOR PREFERIDO? Tengo varios, pero puedo nombrar algunos, me gusta mucho Alex O’rion, productor holandés, con un sonido muy fino y único. Luego también, Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha, Guy J, Maceo Plex, Nick Warren, Dixon, Paul Kalkbrenner, Daft Punk...

HOW WAS THE EXPERIENCE IN OUR CONTEST IN BARCELONA? It was great fun: I was the last one to take part, so I was quite nervous. I listened to all the sessions and, in the end, it was my turn. I gave my very best, although I went there intending to have a good time, not to win.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THESE TYPES OF EVENTS? DID YOU EXPECT TO WIN FROM AMONG THE MORE THAN 200 PODCASTS THAT WE RECEIVED? As I said in the previous question, I went there wanting to have fun and I did not expect to win.

I try to keep my ego under control. If everything goes well, great, and, if not, it’s one more experience to keep.

WE KNOW THAT YOU HAVE BEEN LIVING IN DIFFERENT CITIES AND THAT HAS GIVEN YOU MATURITY, BUT COULD YOU EXPLAIN WHERE AND WHAT EACH PLACE HAS GIVEN TO YOU? Of the places where I had the most experiences that have helped me to grow, it was Barcelona, from day one, where I arrived not knowing anyone.

I left my whole life and family in Argentina behind for music. Little by little, I made contacts and I always thank my teachers in music production for all the wisdom they gave me.

In this world, we always find people who want to help us, but there are also many people who come across as friends and then turn their backs on you: that also helps you to evolve and become stronger.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO ACHIEVE BY 2020?

WE KNOW THAT YOU ARE ARGENTINEAN BUT THAT YOU LIVE BETWEEN BARCELONA AND IBIZA. WHEN YOU STARTED LISTENING TO MUSIC, DID YOU LIVE THERE? WHO WERE YOUR FIRST INFLUENCES? I started listening to electronic music at the age of 18. Before that, I had a couple of rock bands in which I took part as a singer. For the time being, I do not live in a fixed place; I am looking for my place in the world. My first influences were Sasha and Hernan Cattaneo.

WHY VOLK? TELL US THE STORY BEHIND YOUR ALIAS. As my real name is Dulce, I wanted to find a name that sounded a bit stronger. I have always really liked wolves, so I looked for the word wolf in a language in which I liked the way it sounded, one where it was short and easy to pronounce. Volk means wolf in Russian.

WHAT DO YOU KEEP (MUSICALLY) FROM EACH OF THE PLACES YOU’VE LIVED IN? The best thing about Barcelona was when I played at an open-air street food event in Plaza de Palau. It seemed like it was a quiet place but as it was just next to Sonar, the square filled

I would like to be able to play in a real club, and be able to express to people all my energy and my feelings through my music.

YOU’VE ARRIVED IN IBIZA THIS SUMMER. HOW DO YOU SEE THE ISLAND THIS YEAR? WHICH PARTIES DO YOU LIKE THE MOST? The truth is that this year the island is quieter; I do not see as many people as other years. I’m a bit disappointed that there is so much reggaeton; I did not expect it... But, well, the world is changing and you can see that it is not easy to go against that. Anyway, there are always people creating really nice events with good music and good artists: we have to keep supporting them.

At the moment, the party that I like most is Afterlife, and I am waiting for the chance to go to Resistance.

WHO’S YOUR FAVOURITE PRODUCER? There are several, but I can name some: I really like Alex O’rion, a Dutch producer with a very fine, unique sound. Then there are also Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha, Guy J, Maceo Plex, Nick Warren, Dixon, Paul Kalkbrenner, and Daft Punk.

El músico brasileño creó un estilo o incluso llamémosle un género que no solo influyó en la música de su país sino también en la de todo el mundo.

The singer, composer and guitarist and one of the lungs, not to mention the very heart, of Bossa Nova, said farewell to us in July.

Frank Sinatra decía que para cantar tan bien bossa nova como él lo hacía, había que tener poca voz. La música de João Gilberto era música hecha con el corazón que sólo y nada más que él sabía hacer. Nacido en Juazeiro, Bahía, el 10 de julio de 1931, con 19 años emigró a Río de Janeiro, donde comenzó a adquirir notoriedad cantando en la banda Garotos da Lua. Joao Gilberto bautizó la bossa nova en 1958 y en 1961 concluyó la trilogía de álbumes que darían a conocer este género musical al mundo: “Chega de Saudade”, “El amor, la sonrisa y la flor” y “João Gilberto”.

Sus característicos arreglos en guitarra típicos del compositor, marca propiedad de la bossa nova, tuvieron influencia sobre varias generaciones de artistas. Se escucha decir en estos días, que el bossa nova nació y ha muerto con João Gilberto.

Frank Sinatra used to say that in order to sing the bossa nova as well as he did, you had to have a small voice. Joao Gilberto’s music was music made with the heart that he, and only he, knew how to do. Born in Juazeiro, Bahia on July 10, 1931, at the age of 19 he left for Rio de Janeiro, where he began to make a name for himself singing in the band, Garotos da Lua. Joao Gilberto christened the bossa nova in 1958 and, in 1961, he made the last of the trilogy of albums that would make this musical genre known around the world: “Chega de Saudade”; “El amor, la sonrisa y la flor” and “Joao Gilberto”.

Its characteristic guitar arrangements were typical of the composer, and the trademark of the bossa nova, influencing several generations of artists.

These days, you can hear people saying that the bossa nova was born and died with João Gilberto.

Uno Drum es el segundo hijo del fabricante IK Multimedia, que tras el éxito de su versión SYNTH, vuelve con una caja de ritmos, basada principalmente en el mismo sistema de uso.

12 pads táctiles, 64 pasos para secuenciar en 16 teclas, con opción de modificación de hasta 8 parámetros, 12 voces PCM y 6 analógicas, 100 kits de batería bastante completos y 3 efectos analógicos, completan esta pequeña caja de ritmos, que aunque con un tamaño bastante reducido, y un peso muy ligero, ofrece gran variedad de opciones para componer.

Otra de las opciones que le aportan dinamismo y encanto a este producto, es el efecto Roll, para realizar redobles fácilmente y que se pueden modificar en velocidad de repetición. Por supuesto todos los sonidos son modulables permitiendo modificar aspectos como el decay o tune.

ORIENTADO A: La variedad de sonidos que ofrece esta polivalente caja de ritmos, hace que esté destinada a cualquier estilo dentro dentro de la electrónica. También recomendable para hip-hop.

LO MEJOR: El precio es prácticamente una ganga para la cantidad de opciones que ofrece, y tan solo por poder disponer de una caja de ritmos analógica de hasta 64 pasos de secuenciación, ya merece la pena.

LO PEOR: Tal y como su antecesor, siguen sin convencerme excesivamente las conexiones y las teclas táctiles. Un mal menor al que uno se acaba acostumbrando.

HOLA, ÁLVARO. HOLA, SARCASMO. CUÉNTANOS, ¿CUÁNDO EMPIEZAS EN EL MUNDO DE LA PRODUCCIÓN Y DE QUÉ FORMA? Curiosamente empecé con un juego de la PlayStation llamado “Music 2000” y que para mi fue el santo grial por que muy fácilmente podía armar una canción. Al poco tiempo, tras enseñar varias canciones a algunos amigos, uno de ellos me contó que su hermano tocaba en un grupo y usaba Cubase para componer. A partir de ahí, lo que empezó como un juego, al menos jugando a uno, se fue convirtiendo en la mayor pasión de mi vida.

¿CUÁL ES EL PRINCIPAL MOTIVO POR EL QUE HABÉIS CREADO HUMANS RECORD? La idea principal fue reunir a un grupos de amigos, cada uno de ellos con su estilo y personalidad, y empezar a formar una identidad. También fue por tener un label donde podamos sacar nuestra música sin tener que estar esperando las apretadas agendas de otros, donde cada uno pueda decidir cuando y como editar su música.

Confianza plena en cada uno de nosotros, y ese es otro de los motivos por lo cuales nació Humans. Creo que estamos en muy buena forma y eso se refleja en las producciones que venimos haciendo. Nuestra música cada vez esta llegando a más público y recibiendo más soporte, lo que nos hace estar más seguros y con más ganas de seguir hacia delante. Y bueno, a lo de si siempre supe que es lo que iba a hacer, creo que inconscientemente sí. De alguna forma es lo que me hace seguir haciendo esto durante tantos años. Cuando algo te apasiona, lo haces y no piensas otra cosa más que seguir en ello y disfrutarlo.

HABÉIS FORMADO UN GRUPO DE GENTE JOVEN Y CON TALENTO PARA QUE SEAN LOS COMPONENTES DE HUMANS RECORDS PERO, ¿ESTÁIS ABIERTOS A SEGUIR INTRODUCIENDO NUEVOS PRODUCTORES? ¿MIRÁIS TANTO ARRIBA COMO ABAJO EN ESTE ASPECTO? ES DECIR CONTAR TANTO CON UN GRAN NOMBRE COMO CON GENTE DESCONOCIDA.

Por supuesto, aun siendo un sello joven invitamos a todos a que nos manden su música. De hecho tenemos un email en nuestra web exclusivamente para recibir demos. Eso si, que se aseguren que lo que nos mandan puede encajar en Humans. Ya estamos recibiendo muchas demos que no se asemejan a lo que buscamos y es una perdida de tiempo para ambos lados. ¿QUIÉNES FORMAN HUMANS Y CUÁL SU SONIDO? Por lo pronto lo formamos 5: Main Leaf, Nairo, Ubbah, Words Of Nio y yo (Sarcasmo). Aun teniendo cada uno de nosotros un estilo algo diferente, apostamos por sonidos dentro del Melodic Techno, Deep y el Afro House. Si bien os fijais, las producciones de Main Leaf se caracterizan por ese sonido Deep Techno muy lineal y cercano al dub. Las atractivas melodias de Nairo y Ubbah se mueven mucho por el melodic techno acercando en algunos tracks al Afro House, y Words of Nio que viene haciendo tracks muy deep techno, ahora esta preparando unos EP´s de Afro House muy fresh. Mi sonido creo que esta dentro del melodic techno en una vertiente más deep, más dark.

Protege tu Nombre Artístico.

Deberías registrar tu nombre artístico como marca (logo + nombre) ya sea a nivel nacional, como en Europa, Estados Unidos y/o Latinoamérica, dependiendo de donde realizas tus actuaciones, o de donde son tus seguidores.

Para evitar oposiciones de terceros, consulta con un abogado especializado antes.

Certifica tus Obras.

Utiliza plataformas digitales de protección de derechos de autor y crea una base de datos propia donde almacenar, proteger y certificar tus creaciones (fotos, videos, canciones, etc) con sellos de tiempo y firmas encriptadas válidas. Puedes empezar por www. safecreative.org/.

La legislación está creada en torno a las entidades de gestión de derechos de autor, por lo que si quieres explotar tus obras, es la vía legal para hacerlo. Puedes registrarte en tu país de origen, o donde vayan a ser divulgadas tus obras. En España la más famosa es SGAE. Si quieres una alternativa mejor, opta por inscribirte en DAMA.

Con documentación propia, evitarás conflictos. Solicítale a un abogado de Industrias Creativas que redacte modelos de contrato con tus condiciones, derechos y tech rider. Serás profesional al formalizar las relaciones con clubs, discotecas, festivales, promotoras...

Tip #6:

Hacienda somos Todos.

Puede ser que no te persigan con un dron para ver dónde pinchas, pero la Agencia Tributaria sí que analiza los perfiles de los artistas (redes sociales, webs...) y comprueba si los eventos promocionados (flyers, carteles, anuncios...) son facturados.

Detrás de un gran artista, hay un buen mánager y mucha más gente, pero empieza por tener un representante.

Netflix: Derechos de Sincronización Acepta que vives en un mundo digital y mueve tus obras en plataformas de distribución online a nivel internacional.

Facilita que productoras y compañías como Netflix, encuentren tus canciones, puede ser que a un director de cine le encante tu último single, o le guste tu estilo y te solicite una obra por encargo para su última película.

Majors: ¡Compraventa de almas!

Las compañías discográficas internacionales (Sony, Warner, Universal...), suelen utilizar un tipo de acuerdo “all in one”, llamado contrato 360º.

Si eres más de Dúos y Tríos...

Crea un pacto de socios entre los miembros del grupo y/o banda.

Deberíais redactar un contrato donde se reflejen los porcentajes de los derechos de autor sobre las obras que creéis en conjunto y las obligaciones de cada uno.

Registrar una marca entre todos con el nombre artístico, sería un paso muy acertado.
