

ART ON THE EDGE

The ART on the EDGE Studio Tour is a self-guided tour of the studio spaces of well-known visual artists along the Central Oregon Coast for the weekend of June 28, 29 and 30, 2024. These artists will show off their exclusive locations, demonstrate their creative processes and sell their work. This year’s tour offers 16 studio sites, 35 participating artists and an incredible variety of mediums. The studios will be open 11 am to 5 pm each day. The studio sites range in location from Cascade Head to Depoe Bay. You can plan your route using the maps in the center of this booklet. We invite you to experience our rich local arts community which has the distinction of being located along the beautiful Oregon Coast, or the “EDGE” of the continent.

The Chessman Gallery, inside the Lincoln City Cultural Center, is hosting a showcase exhibit of all participating artists. The exhibit, open May 24 to June 30, is a great opportunity to see work from all participating artists in one place. Open 10 am-5 pm, Wednesday through Sunday at 540 NE Hwy. 101.

Maria Esther Sund’s collage and mixed media work are about narrative stories and the artist’s personal journeys. Her mixed media works are continually evolving. For Maria Esther the creative process is more important than the finished product. She is influenced by her Central American culture and takes inspiration from everyday life.

Watercolor, Linocut Prints

Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, Natasha possesses a formal art education and a deep appreciation for capturing the world’s beauty through twodimensional media. Her artistic range spans from contemporary pieces to literal interpretations of figures and landscapes. As an artist, Ramras believes that each canvas holds a story waiting to be unraveled by the viewer.

Fused Glass
Chris Wolf brings an innovative perspective to the world of fused glass by combining her extensive background in sign making, painting and stained glass with this evolving art form.

Group Studio
The ASA Studio/Gallery is a lovely community space with a history of being a place for art since the 1940s. Eighteen ASA member artists’ work will be demonstrated during the Studio Tour weekend: six different artists per day, including painting, assemblage, mosaic, mixed media and more. This studio is a community of artists, teachers and lifelong learners who enjoy creating and sharing art. It is dedicated to bringing arts education and enjoyment to students of all ages, from all walks of life.

Fiber/Weaving
Karen Gelbard, “The Oregon Weaver,” views wearable art as a moving functional canvas of interlaced color. Each handwoven garment has a unique story: a landscape, an ocean view, or a waterfall that has inspired her creativity.

Fiber/Gourd Art

This former oil painter, woodcarver, and pyrographer says gourds are a perfect fit for her artwork. She uses coiling, a basket weaving technique and lots of hand-dyed color in her work. Her work often combines pyrography, painting, and weaving.

The Lincoln City Cultural Center’s Clay Studio is a community-oriented space that welcomes artists just discovering clay alongside ceramicists with years of experience. Artists create hand-built sculptural and functional work. Members will be in the studio during the tour to share about the studio and sell their pieces.

Oil & Cold Wax
Oil and cold wax medium is an ancient method of painting, brought to life in color rich abstract and abstracted landscape paintings by three friends who have worked and studied together for years. Each artist has their own glorious style of working with this magical medium. Oil and cold wax allow the artist to create deep texture and pull in light and move it through each painting. These three artists join together to present their work and demonstrate in the Makers Place Workshop downstairs in the Lincoln City Cultural Center.

Shelley Shandra 11
Stained Glass
Shandra is a self-taught stained glass artist and has been making glass for over 30 years. Many of her pieces are incorporated in driftwood making them truly one of a kind. Her work can be seen locally at Local Faire at select art and craft festivals up and down the coast and at her studio in Lincoln City.

Joanne Daschel
Mosaic

Joanne Daschel creates original glass and stone mosaics, blending traditional tools and materials with contemporary techniques and focuses on subjects from the natural world. She exhibits work at Volta Glass Gallery and teaches at the Sitka Center and the Oregon Coast Community College.

Kelly Howard LC Glass Center
Blown GlassKelly Howard, a Presidential Merit Scholar from the Art Institute of Chicago, has honed her craft over the last 27 years at various glass schools including Pilchuck, Penland, and Corning. Her work is informed by her background in painting, sculpture, and fiber and is grounded in a deep connection to nature. Howard is part owner of the Lincoln City Glass Center, located in the Historic Taft district of Lincoln City. The staff of artists currently working in the studio are from a variety of different backgrounds, producing their own unique artwork along with production items for sale in the studio gallery. Across the street at Volta, the center’s companion gallery, the glass work of Kelly Howard is featured along with a variety of other mediums and artists.

Bob Gibson is a full-time professional photographer and believes that a successful photograph tells a story. Gibson will be conducting a demonstration photo shoot each day with the following schedule:

Tara Choate

While Choate paints primarily in watercolor, she has recently added some acrylic, pastel, oil and collage to her repertoire. You can view a gallery of Coate’s work, as well as upcoming events and works in progress at her website.

Bill Hunt 16

Fabricated Metal Sculpture, Bronze and Live Edge Furniture
After studying marine biology at Humbolt State University, Hunt began sculpting detailed marine and aquatic wildlife in 1983. Returning to the Oregon Coast in 2008 he continued his metal fabrication sculpting and also began creating live edge wood furniture.
