AT THE HELM...

I hope you've had a wonderful start to the New Year. We've been incredibly busy these last few weeks, and it's no wonder with so many great cruise deals currently available. As some of you know, I was devastated to lose a couple of much loved staff in 2018. However, I am delighted to say that I now have an incredible team of lovely, well-travelled, highly qualified and kind staff. Carrie, Becky, Sam, Kerry, Kym, Brian, Jordan and Dave all send their best wishes to you. In January, we welcomed the return of a popular member of our team. Lottie rejoined us after 8 years away during which time had a child and managed a branch of Thomas Cook. I am often asked who is who in our photos so please meet the fabulous people I work with on the back page of this brochure.

I hope that everyone who attended our Holiday Show had an amazing time. I love catching up with so many regular customers. It’s like having a coffee with dear friends. Thank you for supporting us – without you we would be nothing and I never forget that! I feel rewarded, humbled and so very grateful for the support you give us year after year.

We've been spoiled with wonderful cruise programmes on the television lately. ITV's The Cruise followed Majestic Princess on its journey from Asia to Australia. I love cruising queen, Jane McDonald. She returned to Channel 5 exploring the West Coast of Australia - also with Princess Cruises. One of the most impressive experiences in this edition has to be taking a Norwegian coastal voyage with Hurtigruten. VTA Reveals New Itineraries Voyages to Antiquity has announced 7 new itineraries for summer 2019. The new sailings range from 9-nights up to 15-nights and start from £1,550. The sailings include destinations in Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, & Norway, with most either ending or starting from the UK. Flights, tours and drinks are included in the price.

Cruise Lines Skip Amsterdam

Oceania Orders 2 New Ships

Amsterdam has introduced a new €8 tourist tax for all visitors who arrive in the city via cruise ship (€16 for overnight calls) despite transit cruise passengers representing only 1% of the total tourist traffic in Amsterdam. MSC Cruises & Cruise & Maritime Voyages has disputed the new charges and have decided to cancelled all future calls to Amsterdam, replacing the port with nearby Rotterdam. The new charges only apply to tourists visiting Amsterdam as a port of call, and are not charged to those starting or ending a cruise in the popular destination.

The Municipality of Amsterdam's website said the increased tax is in response to heavy demands on the city and its public spaces, as a result of large numbers of tourists. Cruise bosses have critisised that politicians were unwilling to look into proper implementation, which could be budgeted for.

Oceania Cruises has announced an order for two new ships from Fincantieri. The ships will be delivered in 2022 and 2025. The two 67,000 GT Allura-Class ships will accommodate approximately 1,200 guests. The ships will carry fewer guests than Marina and Riviera and will have an even greater guest to crew ratio.

Cunard Rolls Out Drinks Packages Cunard has introduced a variety of Drinks Options after a succesful trial period on Queen Mary 2. Guests on cruises of 5 nights or more will be able to enjoy an array of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails for $69 per person, per day. A soft drinks option is available for $10 per person, per day.
