DESIGN WITH SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH A LIVING VERTICAL VINEYARD . ITS VINE COVERED EXTERIOR PURIFIES THE AIR, PRODUCES GRAPES, AND NATURALLY COOLS THE BUILDING , REDUCING HEAT ABSORPTION AND COMBATING THE URBAN HEAT ISLAND EFFECT. WE EMBRACED THE SITE’S NATURAL ELEMENTS TO CRAFT A DESIGN THAT FEELS AUTHENTIC AND REMOVED FROM THE CITY’S NOISE. E NERGY-EFFICIENT SYSTEMS WERE EXPLORED AND INTEGRATED, INCLUDING SOLAR PANELS AND NATURAL VENTILATION, TO REDUCE ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND CREATE A MORE SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT.

THIS RENDER SHOWCASES THE FOURTH FLOOR, WHICH OPENS UP 25 FEET TO THE ROOF, CREATING A SPACIOUS, LIGHT-FILLED ENVIRONMENT. ON ONE SIDE, THE VINECOVERED STRUCTURE INVITES VISITORS TO WALK THROUGH, PLUCK GRAPES, AND IMMERSE THEMSELVES IN THE SPACE.
THE LOCKERS ARE STRATEGICALLY PLACED ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE, MINIMIZING CONGESTION AND MAINTAINING A SEAMLESS FLOW, WITH A BRIDGE CONNECTING THE TWO AREAS.

THE PROJECT TRANSFORMS THIS DISCONNECTED URBAN NODE INTO AN ELEVATED, PEOPLE FOCUSED NETWORK THAT RECONNECTS THE CITY BOTH PHYSICALLY AND SOCIALLY. THROUGH A CLEAR GEOMETRIC LOGIC OF TRIANGULATION AND CONVERGENCE, THE BRIDGE INTRODUCES ORDER WITHIN CHAOS, CREATING A CIVIC LANDMARK THAT PRIORITIZES PEDESTRIAN MOVEMENT, ACCESSIBILITY, AND CULTURAL ENGAGEMENT .

SITE CONTEXT AND URBAN CHALLENGE
LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN FORT WORTH, THE SIX-WAY INTERSECTION FORMS A CRITICAL NODE BETWEEN CULTURAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND COMMERCIAL DISTRICTS. HOWEVER, CONTINUOUS VEHICULAR FLOW MADE PEDESTRIAN CROSSING UNSAFE AND FRAGMENTED PUBLIC LIFE
THE CHALLENGE WAS TO DESIGN A BRIDGE THAT NOT ONLY SOLVED THE FUNCTIONAL PROBLEM OF MOVEMENT, BUT ALSO ENHANCED URBAN LEGIBILITY AND PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT. THE SITE ANALYSIS REVEALED OPPORTUNITIES FOR ELEVATED CIRCULATION THAT COULD SEAMLESSLY TIE INTO SURROUNDING SIDEWALKS, PLAZAS, AND GREEN ZONES, RECONNECTING THEM INTO A COHESIVE URBAN FRAMEWORK
DESIGN STRATEGIES
CIRCULATION AND ACCESSIBILITY : THE BRIDGE ESTABLISHES A LEGIBLE NETWORK CONNECTING ALL SIX APPROACHES. EACH RAMP FOLLOWS ADA STANDARDS FOR UNIVERSAL ACCESSIBILITY. THE CENTRAL ELEVATED PLAZA SERVES AS A NODAL POINT FOR GATHERING AND ORIENTATION.
SPATIAL PROGRAMMING :
BEYOND MOVEMENT, CULTURAL LINK INTEGRATES MICRO-PUBLIC SPACES, SEATING NODES, VIEWING DECKS, AND SHADED REST AREAS, TRANSFORMING THE BRIDGE FROM A MERE CONNECTOR INTO A DESTINATION.
STRUCTURE AND MATERIALITY : A LIGHTWEIGHT STEEL FRAMEWORK SUPPORTS COMPOSITE DECK PANELS AND TENSILE CABLE SYSTEMS. THE STRUCTURE’S MINIMAL PROFILE MAINTAINS OPENNESS AND TRANSPARENCY, ENSURING VISIBILITY ACROSS THE INTERSECTION.

LIGHTING AND SAFETY :
INTEGRATED LED STRIPS LINE THE PATHWAY AND CANOPY BEAMS, PROVIDING UNIFORM ILLUMINATION AND ACCENTUATING THE BRIDGE’S GEOMETRIC CLARITY AT NIGHT. THE LIGHTING STRATEGY ENSURES BOTH SAFETY AND URBAN VISIBILITY.

THE CENTRAL OF PAUSE AMID AND SURROUNDING FRAMEWORK SENSE OF LIGHTNESS
NODE ACTS AS AN ELEVATED PLAZA, A SPACE AMID MOVEMENT, OFFERING VIEWS OF THE SKYLINE SURROUNDING DISTRICTS. THE OPENNESS OF THE TRUSS AND RHYTHM OF STRUCTURAL MEMBERS CREATE A LIGHTNESS AND FLOW.
AT NIGHT, THE ILLUMINATED GEOMETRY TRANSFORMS THE BRIDGE INTO A LUMINOUS URBAN LANDMARK VISIBLE FROM SURROUNDING STREETS.

BIO - MIMICRY INSPIRED OFF GRID LIVING
THIS PROJECT EMBODIES A BIO-MIMETIC AND OFF-GRID ARCHITECTURAL PHILOSOPHY INSPIRED BY THE MATHEMATICS OF NATURE, WHERE FORM, STRUCTURE, AND ENVIRONMENT MERGE INTO A SELFSUSTAINING HABITAT. USING GRASSHOPPER AS A GENERATIVE DESIGN TOOL, THE BUILDING EMPLOYS VORONOI GEOMETRY TO SIMULATE THE EFFICIENCY, ADAPTABILITY, AND SPATIAL FLUIDITY FOUND IN NATURAL ORGANISMS SUCH AS CORAL STRUCTURES, LEAF VENATION, AND CELLULAR SYSTEMS.

INSPIRATION: BIO-MIMICRY IN FORM AND SYSTEM
BIO-MIMICRY DRAWS INSPIRATION FROM LIFE FORMS AND ECOSYSTEMS THAT HAVE EVOLVED OVER MILLIONS OF YEARS TO SOLVE DESIGN CHALLENGES EFFICIENTLY. IN THIS DESIGN:
- NATURAL FORM : THE FLOWING, MULTI-LAYERED ROOF MIMICS THE UNDULATING PATTERNS OF FUNGAL MYCELIUM AND CORAL REEFS, WHICH GROW ADAPTIVELY ACCORDING TO ENVIRONMENTAL PRESSURES.
- STRUCTURE : THE BUILDING’S SHELL TAKES CUES HONEYCOMB MORPHOLOGIES, DISTRIBUTING LOAD THROUGH TESSELLATED VORONOI PANELS THAT MINIMIZE MATERIAL USE WHILE MAXIMIZING STRENGTH.
- MATERIALITY : LOCALLY SOURCED STONE, WOOD, AND LIVING VEGETATION COVER THE STRUCTURE. GREEN ROOFING INTEGRATES SOIL AND MOSS LAYERS THAT ABSORB RAINWATER AND REGULATE THERMAL PERFORMANCE.
THIS APPROACH NOT ONLY MAKES THE BUILDING APPEAR AS IF IT GREW ORGANICALLY FROM THE LANDSCAPE, BUT ALSO CREATES A MICROECOSYSTEM THAT INTERACTS WITH LIGHT, WATER, AND VEGETATION.
VORONOI GEOMETRY
USING GRASSHOPPER (RHINO 3D), THE BUILDING FORM WAS GENERATED THROUGH A VORONOI ALGORITHMA NATURAL MATHEMATICAL SYSTEM FOUND IN HONEYCOMBS, CELLS, AND MINERAL CRYSTALS
VORONOI PATTERN LOGIC:
- DIVIDES SPACE INTO ORGANIC, NON-REPETITIVE CELLS BASED ON PROXIMITY.
- CREATES EFFICIENT DISTRIBUTION OF MATERIAL, MINIMIZING WASTE WHILE MAXIMIZING STRENGTH.
- ALLOWS NATURAL DAYLIGHT DIFFUSION THROUGH DYNAMIC WINDOW OPENINGS SHAPED BY THE PATTERN.

CONTAINS BEDROOMS AND SMALL WORKSPACES DESIGNED WITH ACOUSTIC AND VISUAL SEPARATION BUT CONNECTED THROUGH CURVED PARTITIONS. WINDOWS AND SKYLIGHTS FOLLOW SOLAR ANGLES, OPTIMIZING PASSIVE DAYLIGHT.
EAST WING – PUBLIC/COMMUNAL ZONE: HOUSES SHARED PROGRAMS LIKE KITCHEN,` DINING, AND LOUNGE AREAS. LARGE, CURVED GLAZING CONNECTS THE INTERIOR TO THE EXTERIOR POND AND SURROUNDING VEGETATION.
SOUTH WING – SERVICE AND MECHANICAL CORE: INCLUDES UTILITY FUNCTIONS SUCH AS BATHROOMS, LAUNDRY, STORAGE, AND OFF-GRID SYSTEMS (WATER RECYCLING UNITS, BATTERY STORAGE, ETC.) CONCEALED WITHIN THE PLAN’S THICKER ENVELOPE.
NORTH WING – STUDIO OR MEDITATION POD: A FLEXIBLE OPEN SPACE FOR CREATIVE OR MEDITATIVE ACTIVITIES, SYMBOLIZING THE PROJECT’S CONNECTION TO MENTAL AND ECOLOGICAL BALANCE.

PHYSICAL MODEL, 2023: MATERIAL USED - CLAY
FORM GENERATION PROCESS
1. BASE SURFACE: GENERATED FROM TERRAIN MAPPING OF A LAKESIDE SITE, RESPONDING TO NATURAL SLOPE AND DRAINAGE.
2. VORONOI SUBDIVISION: APPLIED USING POINT ATTRACTORS TO SIMULATE ORGANIC CELLULAR CLUSTERING.
3. LOFTING & RELAXATION: SURFACES WERE RELAXED USING KANGAROO PHYSICS IN GRASSHOPPER TO SIMULATE FABRIC-LIKE TENSION AND GRAVITY FLOW.
4. MATERIALIZATION:
- OUTER SHELL : RECYCLED STONE PANELS INTERLOCKED LIKE SCALES.
- INNER STRUCTURE : LAMINATED TIMBER RIBS FOLLOWING STRESS TRAJECTORIES.
- ROOF : SOLAR GLASS INTEGRATED WITH NATIVE MOSS AND VINE VEGETATION.
