Freedom To Have a Great Time!
History Samuel Mayo Nickerson and his wife Matilda built their Brewster summer residence on a bluff overlooking Cape Cod Bay in 1890. It included Fieldstone Hall, a carriage house, a 9-hole golf course, a stone tower used to generate electricity and private game preserve. The estate was occupied by their son Roland and his wife Addie. Socially and politically prominent, the Nickerson’s entertained frequently and lavishly. It was not uncommon for the social event of the year to be held at Fieldstone Hall. In 1906, Fieldstone Hall burned to the ground. Construction began a year later and the new Mansion was completed in 1912. It closely resembled an English country manor with an eclectic blend of Renaissance Revival and Gothic themes. One of the Mansion‘s most striking features is the intricately carved oak staircase leading to the second floor. In 1945, the Nickerson Mansion was sold to the La Salette religious order where it served as a seminary and college for men. In 1979, Corcoran Jennison purchased the Mansion, Carriage House and the 52- acre parcel to eventually develop what Resort Guests and Club Members now know as Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club. Today, the Mansion and Carriage House have been enhanced to befit their historic character; including period furnishings and appropriate finishes to newly restored wood. There is 21,000 square feet of function space throughout the resort, Cape Cod’s only Nicklaus Design Golf Course, three exquisite restaurants, 338 guest rooms, eleven tennis courts, private beach, and six pools. The Resort’s numerous amenities complement the Nickerson family’s inspiration to have the ability to entertain extravagantly, lead an active lifestyle or simply relax and enjoy the tranquil setting.

2019 Summer Activities Schedule Arbor Movie Night: Join us for an outdoor, family-friendly movie at Arbor Pool as the sun sets and stretch out under the stars. Shark Bah will remain open until 9:00pm serving pool side food and drinks. Movie will begin at sunset. Family Basketball: Is available at any time throughout the day. Please visit the Fletcher Tennis shop so sign out a basketball Family B-I-N-G-O: Join us at Shark Bah located at the Arbor Pool for some BINGO fun. $2 per card and the winner walks away with half the pot! Family Kite Making: Spend your Monday morning flying a kite! Grab your family and head to The Mansion Front Lawn to assemble, decorate and fly your very own kite! $10 per kite. Kids Night Out: Enjoy a dinner out while we entertain and feed the kids at the EdgeVenture Clubhouse. Program is designed for children ages 4 to 9 years, with age appropriate activities, movies and Xbox Kinect. For staffing reasons, reservations must be made by 7:00pm on the previous day. Please call 774-323-6009 to make a reservation. Meet at the Member Sports Club. Program hours are from 6:00pm9:00pm. Fee $30 per child, $25 for second or more siblings. Price includes pizza for dinner. Please alert staff to any allergies upon making reservation. Movies by Moonlight: Each Sunday at sunset, The Mansion Front Lawn becomes the perfect backdrop for your favorite classic movies. Popcorn is available for the kids; snacks and a bar for the adults. Blankets for seating will be provided, but feel free to bring your own chairs.

Join us for Family BINGO after putting at Shark Bah located at the Arbor Pool! Smores Family Beach Fire: Every Thursday night from 8:00pm10:00pm, kick off your shoes, take in the sunset and make some friends and s’mores! Ocean Edge Shuttle will drop off at the Bay Pines Beach Path. Splashtastic Games on Rainy Days: Join us at Fletcher Pool for splashtastic rainy day activities including cannonball contest, pool kick board relay races, inner-tube water polo and other fun pool games! Rainy Day Event Only! Toddler Games: Assorted lawn games especially created for your toddlers on The Mansion Front Lawn. Weekly Scavenger Hunt: Join us for our week-long scavenger hunt! Take pictures with your family performing the tasks given throughout your stay and upload them onto social media pages! List available at the Bayside Indoor Pool. Croquet: Ocean Edge has a regulation croquet court located on the Mansion Front Lawn. Croquet will be set up to use at your leisure. Beach Walk & Oyster Tour: The Brewster Flats are famous for their numerous tide pools and oyster beds. Explore them during our weekly beach walks. 2019 Summer Activities Schedule Nickerson Mansion Tour: The Nickerson Mansion Tour is offered June through September upon request. Learn about The Mansion’s unique architecture and influence, and how the Nickerson family lived back in the day. Please contact the Front Desk to set up a tour 774-323-6047. Driving Range Social – A Golf Mixer: Whether you are new to the game or in need of a refresher, join one of our PGA Professionals Monday through Thursday at 4:15pm for a 45-minute golf lesson and mixer. Meet at the Linx Golf Pro Shop. Clubs are provided at no cost, range fee at $10 per person, $5 Children 12 and under. Family Golf: To encourage family golf in the afternoon, we have placed family tees on the front nine of the course at 200 yards and 150 yards from the center of the green. These tee markers allow kids to play the hole from a reasonable distance to the green and make the putt for an actual score. Family Golf Rates: $75 per adult, junior players under the age of 13 are complimentary with playing adult. Barefoot and Buckets July 1 - 4 This program emanates childhood days past. A traditional TimberNook program where children have unique play experiences that challenge their mind and body in beautiful natural settings, followed by hours of free play. They’ll be doing everything from exploration in giant color puddles, to fort building with fabric, to making water paths with gutters and testing them out in the woods. And so much more! Storybook July 8-11 This program emanates childhood days past. A traditional TimberNook program where young children have unique play experiences that challenge their mind and body in beautiful natural settings, followed by hours of free play out in the wild. We’ll be getting muddy from construction “work” to zooming around on superhero missions. Village Folk July 15 – 18 This program is all about design and creativity in the wild. This week, the children will be creating an entire village of stores in the woods using their own two hands. They’ll be doing everything from creating their shop idea to making actual products and services to establishing the currency to sell and buy from other kids. This program is sure to inspire hours of building, creating and most importantly playing! Enchanted Session July 22-25 Children will dive deep into their imaginations as they enter the world of Neverland in the woods. Children will create life-sized pirate ships, a pixie hollow, and of course ‘lost boys’ and ‘lost girls’ hideouts. They will enjoy everything from pirate ward to walking the plank to hunting for treasure in the most unexpected places. This week is sure to inspire and create lasting memories for years to come. Going Wild July 29 – Aug 1 An all time classic TimberNook for children that enjoy taking plan to a while new level. This year our theme is inspired by the movie, “Goonies.” This children this week will create an elaborate fort system equipped with trap doors, barricades, tunnel systems, and more. It will be a week full of adventure, games and surprises! This program will stretch the minds of your young ones and leave them asking for more!
Woodland Tinkering Aug 5 -8 This program is all about design and creativity in the wild. Children will delight in experiences such as creating elaborate track systems for soap boat races in water and making a miniature golf course in the woods. There will also be plenty of time for free pay and games in the wild. This program will inspire hours of creative play! Extreme Art Aug 12 - 15 This week is about art – gone wild. Children will be dabbling in decorative fort making, rocket painting, and mud designs. Each day brings new creative art and play experiences. If you think your child will enjoy whole-body sensory art, that this is the program for them! Village Folks Aug 19-22 This week, the children will be creating an entire carnival using their own two hands. They’ll design and build everything from their venue to their carnival games and more! There will also be plenty of time for free play and group games. This program is sure to inspire hours of building, creating, and most importantly playing! Enchanted Aug 26-29 Children will dive deep into their imaginations as they enter the world of Robin Hood. They will create their own Sherwood Forest with jousting in the mud, making bows for an archery tournament, and hunting for gold in the most unexpected places. • • • • • • • •
TimberNook is a 100% outdoor program. Weather appropriate attire is required. A change of clothes and towel recommended. Biking Take a spin on the Freedom Flyer Bike Fleet at Ocean Edge. Shiny and sharp, these bikes are built for any kind of speed. Cover our resort’s legendary 429 acres, as well as the historic Cape Cod Bike & Rail Trail that crisscrosses our property and carries you from one quaint stop to another. The Cape Cod Bike and Rail Trail is a 26-mile spectacular journey that begins in Dennis, continues through Ocean Edge Resort before ending on the Cape Cod National Seashore. The historic trail is a haven for bikers, walkers, joggers, and is dotted with plenty of opportunities to visit other beaches and ponds or to grab lunch or an ice cream cone. Bike rentals are available at both Flyer for Hire rentals shops, which are located on The Mansion side adjacent to the Bay Pines tennis courts or on The Villages side next to Britterige Village. Bike rentals are available upon request and weather permitting in the off-season. All rentals include helmets. Child carriers which attach to the adult sized bikes, are available for our younger guests. The bike trail is safe for strollers as motor vehicles are not allowed. Remind kids to be aware of other riders and remember that Massachusetts law requires those under the age of 16 to wear a helmet. We have two docks and observation decks available for use, the North Dock is located behind the 130 building in Britterige Village and the South Dock is located behind the Member Sports Club, near the playground area and Edge Venture Clubhouse. Reservations for Kayaks and Stand-Up Paddle Boards are available through the Dock Attendant. Reservations can be made as far as five days out. Unfortunately, there is no direct line to the docks; individuals must be at the docks to make a reservation. Bringing your own kayaks, paddle boards or other equipment for the pond is not permitted. Food or drinks are not permitted in the boats, on the docks, or on the pond. All food and drinks must remain on the observation decks overlooking the docks.

FREEDOM TO CHANGE YOUR MIND WITH THE TIDE BREWSTER BEACHES: IT’S WARMER HERE. Nicknamed by locals “the Brewster Flats”, our beautiful beaches were named #3 by Travel & Leisure in the America’s Most Beautiful Coastal Views category. Brewster beaches boast gentle surf, soft sand, warm water and a beach that changes dramatically every few hours. A common complaint about New England beaches is the cold water, but because Brewster is on an inlet and the bay, it is home to the Cape’s warmest water, due to the changing shoreline that stretches nearly a mile into the bay during low tide. At low tide the sun beats down on the sandbars, and as the tide rolls in, the water quickly heats up over the warm sand providing us with nature’s very own radiant heating system. At low tide, the beach reveals tidal flats and smooth sand bars, great for power walking (sturdy enough for baby joggers), friendly pick-up wiffle ball games, and exploration including oyster farms. Low tide is a great time to relax and read, while kids get busy hunting for hermit crabs, minnows and other beach creatures found by the bucketful in the clean, warm water tide pools. At high tide, Brewster beaches change completely, boasting gentle surf and warm water, excellent for swimming and Stand Up Paddling. Very gradual elevation changes make an easy water entry and exit for little ones. BAY PINES BEACH Only Club Members with beach access and Resort Guests staying on the Mansion side of property will be admitted to Bay Pines Private Beach. Please have your Membership Card or Resort Card available for the beach attendant, as the admittance policy is strictly enforced. Guests who do not have access to our Bay Pines Private Beach may purchase a Brewster Public Beach Pass for an additional $50 for the week from the Front Desk. This provides access to six Public Brewster beaches and two freshwater Brewster Ponds.
