Survey ship destroys conch harvesterâs gear Commercial boat captain says US Wind had opened area to offshore operations By Jack Chavez Staff Writer (Nov. 12, 2021) The relationship between wind energy companies and some of their Ocean City neighbors is tedious, at best, and those relationships arenât trending in the right direction after a local fisherman claimed a US Wind-contracted vessel destroyed as many as 250 of his conch pots. On Nov. 1 around 3:15 p.m., Jimmy Hahn, who has fished on the
waters off Delmarva coast for 30 years, said he encountered the Emma McCall, a 153-foot research vessel, around five miles off the coast of Fenwick Island, while seeing to conch pots that he had set. Hahn said he quickly realized the McCallâs survey gear was deployed and it was dragging right through his pots. âHereâs the bottom line to it â we didnât fish all spring and all summer. They told us if they let us get their surveying done, we could have our fall fisheries, our biggest fishery,â Hahn said. âWe make the most money during the fall.â See POTS Page 3
