Grease rags leading to unexpected fires By Greg Ellison Staff Writer (June 25, 2021) Buddy Nichols, owner of 28th Street Wash N Dry, is seeking information following a recent dryer fire involving grease rags that caused extensive damage and shuttered the business for weeks of repairs. On June 11, Nichols was contacted
about 1:30 a.m. after an adjacent business, Mother’s Cantina, smelled smoke. “No one was in there (the laundromat) at that time and then Mother’s air conditioner started pulling the smoke in,” he said. “That’s when someone at Mother’s, thankful they were open, ran over there with an extinguisher and called the fire department.”
Besides running 28th Street Wash N Dry for nearly two decades, Nichols owns three additional laundromats in Ocean City. Nichols said staff members at Mother’s have exercised decisive actions in similar cases previously. “We’re having it happen at least once See GREASY Page 3
