FOR 20 YEARS, OBMI HAS DESIGNED LUXURY RESIDENCES AND AMENITIES FOR THE PRIVATE ISLAND OF OIL NUT BAY IN THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS. The sensitive site is secluded and untouched, fringed by a reef and a glinting ocean of iridescent turquoise. To be charged with creating luxury accommodations and sustainable infrastructure without overpowering its natural beauty requires vast experience and precision working in the Caribbean islands.

Each home expresses one’s unique interests and design preferences, so when our clients came to us and shared their love of the Japanese aesthetic, we designed a residence inspired by the Asian vernacular in the Caribbean. The home complements the tranquility of the landscaping and ocean views and incorporates various types of wood into the design to blend in with the organic natural environment.

The Riads at Royal Mansour is a showcase of the beautiful culture and craftsmanship in Morocco. This residence is inspired by the traditional design of riads, which center around an open-air patio.

The ground floor opens to a lush, landscaped garden and a private pool. A private wrought iron elevator takes guests to the second floor, revealing three bedrooms with dressing rooms and independent bathrooms. Silky fabrics combine with stucco lace, zellige tile adorns the space, tadelakt details the walls and fountains, and chiseled cedar wood blends with contemporary works of art, all celebrating the meticulous work of many craftspeople, creating a perfect harmony of luxury and authenticity.

OBMI designed the Moon Residence harmoniously with the steep topography, carefully nestling the home within the landscape. The design team maximized views by integrating tall corner glazing and expansive cantilevered outdoor decks to take advantage of the 180-degree views of the surrounding environment.

Located in the heart of Real de la Quinta, a premier destination in the Marbella hillside, the Angsana Residences are perched at the top of a hill, commanding expansive views over the rolling hills below and the blue sea behind. OBMI created a compact plan carefully tailored to respond to the Client’s program, regulations, and the complex terrain. The design maximizes long sea views from the Residences, which are placed in open U shapes to create two perfectly scaled courtyards where the fragrance of the orange trees awakens the senses, the sound of rolling water, and the play of sun and shade. The design honors the mountain landscape, with stepped architecture that hugs the hillside and raises plazas that peer into lowerlevel gardens and pools.

The contemporary architecture style is light and airy, composed of clean lines and simple silhouettes, incorporating elegant references to the local brick wall patterns and rugged stonework. Angsana is a family-oriented brand, and the OBMI design celebrates and fosters family togetherness and experiences for all ages and interests moonlit paddle around Real de la Quinta’s salt-water lake, a nature hike to explore local flora, time in the fabulous pool, or a family dinner overlooking Marbella’s night lights.

This Bermudian estate is well known for its prominent point, Castle Folly, which overlooks Castle Harbour and Castle Islands. When this eight-acre property came into new ownership, they engaged OBMI with the challenge to carefully develop and enhance the property and landscape as a retreat for a growing family. Our clients were inspired by the traditional Bermudian architecture and wanted their home to f it into this style while taking advantage of natural design opportunities such as solar orientation, views, placement, and local materials. OBMI established the design to take advantage of the views, maximize privacy, and remain sympathetic to the surrounding landscape.

Bayhouse is a celebration of architectural design, contrasting the contemporary clean edges of the residence with the soft curves of the natural landscape of its surroundings. The site presented a unique challenge, punctuated with several of Virgin Gorda’s legendary boulders. Instead of removing them, OBMI designers chose to work with them and incorporate them into the overall aesthetic. Modern design meets traditional Caribbean architecture, with oversized contemporary windows and doors covered by louvered shutters. Bayhouse embraces traditional island-style living with seamlessly designed indoor and outdoor spaces that are interconnected, always with the ability to take in the striking views of Virgin Gorda.
