Welcome guide for new students

We want to make sure your transition to Hadley is as easy as possible, and we understand that your first few weeks may seem a little daunting and scary.

This guide is here to help familiarise you with academy life and prepare you for what to expect on your first day.

A message from the Principal

We pride ourselves on being inclusive and championing the gifts and talents of every individual. The happiness, care and wellbeing of all our children is central to our approach and enables everyone at Hadley to thrive in a safe and secure environment.

We have an established culture of high expectations, where children are taught well and encouraged to develop both academically and culturally. Having such a well-rounded learning experience is central to our purpose as it is this that enables our children to be aspirational for themselves, their families and their community. By nurturing a positive mindset we build children’s confidence to be successful whichever path they choose.

As we are an all through school many of our children are with us for the majority of their formal education and do stay on into our very popular Sixth Form where each year, approximately 95% go onto University with 85% going to Russell Group and top third Universities which are some of the best in the world.

Hadley has a track record of great achievements and is an inspirational place to learn and work. Throughout all Phases of our Academy, we have a team of skilled and dedicated staff with a great deal of expertise who are committed to securing the best outcomes.

We really value our parent’s views and recognise the enormous trust and confidence they place on us with regard to children’s learning and development. For this reason we are committed to working in partnership to secure the best from every child.

I am immensely proud to be the Principal of Oasis Academy Hadley.

Start Your Morning Right

The first mornings of the new school year can be tough. Plan and streamline your school morning routine with these useful tips.

Wake Up Early

On the first days back to school, start your morning 15 to 20 minutes earlier than you think you need to. As the school year goes on, you may be able to adjust your wake-up times. Having a little extra time is a great cushion for those unexpected hiccups everyone experiences.

Prepare the Night Before

For a smooth school morning, it helps to plan ahead. Before bed, make sure lunches are packed, uniform is laid out, your devices are charging, and homework/workbooks are packed for school.

Enjoy Breakfast

Make having breakfast everyday a priority. It will help nourish you and give you a good start for the day!

We offer a free breakfast club for children in Reception upwards from 7:30am.

Drop and Go

You can drop your child and the primary gate from 8am. Between 8:00 to 8:15 your child will attend breakfast club. From 8:15 to 8:30 your child will play outside supervised by school staff.

Don’t be Late

Make sure you familiarise yourself with your journey times and public transport timetables. Practice your route before you start school. You must be on time every day, you will need to arrive by 08:45 am to not be marked late.

Absence and Attendance

You must attend school everyday. To avoid an unauthorised absence, your parent or guardian must contact the Attendance Officer and provide evidence for your absence. They can send an email to attendance@oasishadley.org or call reception on 0208 804 6946 for assistance.

School Uniform

We take pride in each and every one of our pupils at Hadley, and know that they are equally proud to be wearing their academy badge on their uniforms.

Why do we have a uniform?

Inclusion – Uniforms promote our belief of inclusion for all.

A sense of belonging – The uniform promotes a sense of belonging in each student, academy and the Trust.

Safety – If all the students in our Trust wear a clearly recognisable, correctly branded uniform it is easy to identify strangers in the academy. On the way to and from the academy it also affords a degree of safety as the students are part of a large body of young people who will look out for each other.

Preparation for the future

– Many jobs require staff to wear a uniform and even if there isn’t a uniform there is often a dress code. Uniform helps young people get used to dressing to a prescribed standard. It also helps them know the difference between formal and informal dress.

Value for money – Good quality uniform should be seen as effective value for money by most parent/carers.

Relieves students from fashion

‘stress’ – a localised academy uniform eliminates the stress placed on students to purchase and wear expensive, fashionable items.

A sense of pride – We all feel proud of our young people when they are well dressed in the uniform. Uniform and PE/sport kits also help students to demonstrate pride in their academy.

Helps raise aspirations

The smarter you feel the more you believe you can achieve.

Academy Life

We expect much from our students in terms of personal standards, discipline and attitude. In return we offer students an environment where they feel safe, secure and valued. We know that our students will face many challenges during their time at the Academy, and we believe that our pastoral system provides excellent care, guidance and support.

Communities

Students and staff belong to one of six Learning Communities— Responsible, Independent, Cooperative, Resilient, Aspirational and Courageous. Each community is divided into University Groups and is supported by a personal tutor which we call a University Guide.

Life Day

A unique aspect of learning at Hadley is Life Day. Students at Hadley can expect a wide range of varied activities over the course of the year. The students' learning experience on Life Day is broad, holistic and exciting involving theme days, trips, external visitors and external visitors and interactive student led activities. Students who actively participate receive a certificate at the end of the day recognising their achievement. Students who attend every session and participate fully receive an end of term Life Day Certificate of Achievement.

Lunch

At lunchtime we encourage students to have an Academy meal. These are cooked on site and are nutritionally balanced. We always offer a choice including vegetarian and halal.
