Welcome to Selden Barns Wedding Venue Selden Barns, at Old Selden Farm, is set within over 50 acres of the South Downs National Park; the idyllic, peaceful, rural retreat for your wedding day. This exclusive-use venue features beautiful, characterful barns, with Old Selden Farmhouse at the venues heart, and beautifully kept lawns and terrace overlooking open farmland and forests. Selden Barns also benefits from nine guest bedrooms, including ‘The Gatehouse’ Newlywed Suite. Licensed wedding ceremonies take place in our charming Ceremony Barn; a converted barn adjoining the Farmhouse, or in the main ‘Grand Barn’.

Venue Features Grounds

Set within over 50 acres of working farmland in the South Downs National Park, the peaceful, rural location makes the venue a perfect choice for your wedding day. With beautifully kept lawns and gardens, wrapped with flint walls, mature shrubs and trees, there is an expansive terraced seating area and garden overlooking open farmland and forests. If you are looking for the picture-perfect backdrop, with characterful farm buildings and features, look no further!

Guest Bedrooms and Newlywed Suite

Selden Barns benefits from nine guest bedrooms, accommodating up to 22 of your wedding guests, including the wedded couple in ‘The Gatehouse’ Newlywed suite. Breakfast is cooked fresh and served in the Farmhouse kitchen.


The Grand Barn

The Grand Barn, licensed for ceremonies of up to 150 guests, is the location for your wedding breakfast and evening reception. With capacity to seat up to 230 guests for your wedding breakfast and up to 250 standing for your evening reception, this versatile, flexible wedding space is second to none. The Barn features beautiful ivory pleated drapes, swags and tails, vintage chandeliers and a fairy light canopy, you and your guests will enjoy grandeur during your wedding day. For your evening reception, party the night away on our raised, chequered dancefloor with the bar located just a ‘boogie’ away! And for those warm, summer nights, step off the dancefloor and on to the splendid terrace and lawns to enjoy your favourite drink and look up at the stars.

Ceremony Barn

Wedding ceremonies are licensed for up to 100 guests in our stunning ceremony room; a converted barn adjoining the Farmhouse with original oak beams, fireplace and exposed brickwork. To add a little extra sparkle, fairy lights entwine the beams overhead whilst you make your wedding vows.

Outdoor Ceremonies

Can you imagine a more beautiful, natural back drop for your wedding day? No, neither can we! Selden Barns offers an ‘at one with nature’ vibe - with a difference! We have various locations within our 50 acres of land and forest for the ultimate outdoor wedding experience, with a Humanist Celebrant, who offer THE most personalised, bespoke wedding ceremony experience. Say your vows with a beautiful view!

Newlywed Suite

Selden Barns is THE only local exclusive use wedding venue to boast nine on-site, comfortably appointed, guest bedrooms, including a beautiful Newlywed Suite. Located in ‘The Gatehouse’, a former farm cottage, the Newlywed Suite features super king-size bed, stand-alone roll-top bath and its own courtyard garden, and is the perfect place to spend your first night as newlyweds. On the morning after your wedding, you and your guests are invited for breakfast in our Farmhouse kitchen, freshly cooked by our charming chef, Andy! Your wedding day catering and drinks The team at Selden Barns are in proud partnership with four diverse, exciting and creative, in-house catering teams. We know that creating the perfect wedding breakfast dining experience is as important as the ceremony itself! Our catering partnerships are based on consistent delivery of quality cuisine, and a working relationship that ensures your catering is served to create an unforgettable experience. We want you to have the perfect wedding day and our reputation for doing just that is essential to our business. That is why we are unable to allow outside caterers at the venue. Rest assured, each of our in-house caterers offers their own signature style, with variety, to cater for dietary or religious requirements. Please contact our catering teams for a free consultation! You will find their details on the following page.

Your drinks packages Selden Barns will provide a fully staffed bar, open from 12pm till 11.30pm (included in your venue hire). To compliment your wedding day, we will supply a much-needed drinks package for your thirsty day guests! Enjoy a cold glass of bubbles, Bucks Fizz or Pimms to celebrate after your ceremony, a half-bottle of wine per person with your wedding breakfast and a toast drink. For drinks package prices, please see the venue hire price list. (Suppling your own alcohol and corkage is not permitted. All alcohol consumed must be purchased directly from the venue.)

Venue styling – what’s your vibe? Adding your favourite colours, theme, style and personality is the fun part of planning your ‘big day’! Your experienced Wedding and Events Coordinators will guide you through every aspect of your wedding day plans, and what is effective within the venue or not.

Over the course of your ‘planning journey’, you may become overwhelmed with choice, ideas and influences. Focus on what YOU and your partner want, and remember, your wedding day is just that – YOUR special day! The team can advise you on the practicalities of your vision and ensure your day runs smoothly.

Setting up for the ‘big day’ – considerations and advice Access

Access for you and your suppliers is from 9am. This is your time to decorate, set guest table names, stationary, table plan and so on. Suppliers using ladders must be suitably insured to ‘work at height’. Neither venue staff, the couple or friends and family are permitted to use ladders unless they are insured to do so. This is for their health and safety and prevents risk of serious injury. A wedding stylist is trained and suitably insured to undertake all works.

Decor

Selden Barns has many different style and decor items included in your venue hire, plus one or two additional hire items to compliment our venue styling. We highly recommend a wedding stylist to take the stress out of preparing, setting up and taking away of your wedding decor. Chair sashes are very popular – and very time consuming to tie on each chair! A typical sash can take five minutes to get right. Multiply that by a hundred chairs, for example, that’s five hundred minutes! A wedding stylist can do this for you and save yourself the stress. You may find that costs are comparable to doing-it-yourself, and the time not an issue with a hired stylist. Larger hired items may have to be removed at midnight. Please ask the team for more information about our included decor and recommended wedding stylists.

Top Tip

It’s such a shame to see beautiful floristry thrown away after a wedding, so if you are using flowers on tables etc, nominate a person per table and give the flowers to them as a gift or a ‘thank you’.

Finally...

Always remember, what you bring into the venue, you also must take down, clear and remove too. The venue staff will assist where possible, but responsibility to set-up and take down is solely with the booked couple. All your personal items, gifts, cards and décor (hired or otherwise) must be removed from the venue by 9am the following morning, as there maybe another wedding taking place the day after your big day. This also includes removal of all rubbish and flowers etc.


Here’s what’s included in your venue hire As a wedding venue, we endeavour to make your wedding day planning experience as stress-free as possible. You have a dedicated Wedding and Events team on hand and contactable to advise and guide you, and four to six weeks before your big day, you are invited to attend your final planning meeting to dot the i’s and cross the t’s, finalising every aspect of your day. Your ideas, guest numbers, themes and more, may change in the lead up to your big day, so we give you as much time as possible to prepare and get your plan right. Complimentary decor offered to our couples include; four different table centre piece styles, wedding post box and personalised chalk board, gifts and cards table, ‘A’-board chalk board for your guests arrival, easel for your table plan, beautiful Ceremony Barn table centre piece and matching elegant free-standing candelabra, aisle chair-end pieces and dance floor rules board.

The venue also includes a stunning fairy-light canopy in the Grand Barn and fairy lights entwined within the beams of the Ceremony Barn. Also included are Chiavari chairs and tables for all guests. Chargeable items; We apply a minimal charge to hire in a beautiful range of linen tablecloths for you, (specific to the size of tables), and we also feature a handmade sweet cart and jars you can hire, and fill with your favourite sweet selection. Purchase your favourite sweets, bags and scoops, and the team at Selden Barns will display for you. For prices, please see our venue hire price list

Hiring Selden Barns For Your Wedding You’ve fallen in love with Selden Barns....What happens next? Firstly, congratulations! You won’t be disappointed. You will need to secure the date with a provisional booking. You must then contact your registrars or Church to ensure they have your chosen date. Visit ‘marriages’ on www.westsussex.gov.uk or call 01243 642122 to book your registrar. Alternatively, you may opt for a Humanist Celebrant for your ceremony. We can recommend two award-winning Celebrants, details within our ‘Trusted Suppliers’ page.

A non-refundable deposit of £900.00 (deducted from your venue hire) secures the booking and we send you confirmation, payment schedule, terms and conditions and a wedding day information pack, including your complete ‘Guide to Planning Your Wedding at Selden Barns’. Selden Barns is an inclusive venue, and proud supporters of the LGBTQ+ community. Love does not discriminate, and neither do we. The team welcomes everyone from every background, gender, or faith. Put simply, Love is Love. Love for all.

Your Wedding ‘Planning Journey’ The Weddings and Events Coordinators are on hand to guide and advise you every step of your planning journey. You’ll also be given our venue ‘Guide to Planning Your Wedding at Selden Barns.’ The team are on hand to answer any questions you have and look forward to working with you. You will be invited to our free Open Days, where you will meet the best local wedding suppliers in the business, including photographers, wedding stylists, florists, cake makers and more. You will also be invited to our exclusive ‘W.E.D.’ – Wedding Experience Days. Exclusively for our booked couples, the venue will be dressed for a wedding, with all our venue decor

items showcasing what’s on offer. You can book a table to try out our decor or your own ideas, bring along a supplier or stylist to trial your themes, and meet with the team to discuss all your wedding day needs. Bring your bridesmaids, best men and family, and walk-through your wedding ceremony, and trial the ‘aisle-walk’!

FAQ’s

Is confetti permitted? – Yes! As long as its bio-degradable, no foils or glitter, and definitely not confetti canons! You may use confetti outside the Ceremony Barn only. Dried flowers look especially affective for photography and are less harmful to the environment. Is the venue child friendly? Yes, we do welcome children. If you have large numbers, we’d recommend a creche or nanny service to take care of them. If you are looking to entertain with activity packs, please do not use crayons as they can damage table linens and furniture. Are fireworks and sparklers allowed? Unfortunately, fireworks are not. We are part of a working farm with livestock and their welfare is our priority. Sparklers are welcome for photography purposes only and must have a suitable container in which to extinguish after use. How can I fix my décor to walls? You are welcome to drape and tie décor to suitable fixtures within the venue, as long as its not fixed using blue tack or staple guns or tacks

Can we hire a helicopter to arrive in? Yes, you can, for a dramatic entrance! Please notify the venue as soon as possible, no later than two months prior to your big day. When can I set up? Your venue hire and access is from 11am on the day, or from 9am by arrangement only. There may be another event taking place the day before your wedding, and/or an event the day after. The venue team will accommodate an earlier access time where possible. Are candles permitted? We love a candle at Selden Barns! But any flames are a potential hazard, so ensure each tea light is in a vessel at least twice as high as the tea light and away from foliage and décor, then this will suffice.
