The Play that Goes Wrong - Program

Page 1

THE DIRECTOR’S NOTE

When I asked to student-direct the fall play for my senior year, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I first saw The Play That Goes Wrong my freshman year and again my sophomore year. It’s a show I both know well and love, so when it appeared on the list of possibilities, I immediately jumped for it. I couldn’t wait to share my love for this show with the cast.

This play brings chaos in the best possible way: things break, cues are missed, and actors “forget” their lines… but behind all that madness is an incredible amount of teamwork, timing, and creativity. Directing this show has taught me more than I ever expected—not just about theater, but about leadership, collaboration, and laughter. Every rehearsal was filled with both hard work and hilarious moments (some planned, some definitely not!), and I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve created together.

Huge thanks to our hardworking tech crew and stage manager, Luke Titi. Thank you, Clara Shem-Tov, for being by my side in case anything went wrong (that wasn’t supposed to). And of course, thank you to Mrs. Blanchard for trusting me to take on such a technical and intricate play. This has truly been the experience of a lifetime, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with two talented casts and a hardworking crew.

Finally, thank you to my close friends and family who listened to my endless excitement for this production. And to the audience—thank you for joining us on this journey to a beautiful disaster. Sit back, relax, and get ready to laugh…especially when everything goes wrong. Enjoy!

This is Brendan’s second year working in the Oakwood Theatre program. In his free time he enjoys playing sports and eating. Ria gets a lot of support and love from her friends, family, and dog. She hopes you enjoy the show!

BRENNAN KLOTZBACH (‘28)

Brennan is so excited to return to the Oakwood stage, with the special addition of her sister directing. Her favorite past roles include Maggie in A Chorus Line, Tess in Crazy For You, and Cat in the Hat in Seussical. Most recently, Brennan was awarded SVCT’s Al Bloom award. When not performing, Brennan enjoys hanging out with friends and family, volunteering, and dancing. She thanks her family and friends for their support, hopes you enjoy the show!

JONATHAN KRANZ (‘28)

Jonathan excited to perform in his first ever play and 15th time on stage and 2nd show at Oakwood. He has enjoyed the challenge of not relying on vocals and dancing. When not on stage he can be found playing volleyball, on a bike ride, or a hike with his family and friends. Jonathan would like to give a big shout out to Klara, their student director, for her dedication and effort bringing this show to life.

HENRY MIHELICH (‘28)

Henry Mihelich is a sophomore here at Oakwood. He is happy to be playing Charles Haversham tonight. He has been enjoying theater here since 6th grade. STHANIKA RAHOOL (‘28)

She’s thrilled to be acting in The Play That Goes Wrong, her favorite play of all time, and cannot wait to see the product of everyone’s hard work. Sthanika usually loves swimming, baking, and flag football. She’s grateful to her family and friends for cheering her on and hopes that the audience enjoys the play!!!

JOSEPH TAYLOR (‘28)

Murder at Haversham Manor Acting Techs Cast

Jessica Sparks is beyond excited to be wrangling wires, props, and her sanity for the show. Jessica’s technical “talents” include plugging things in the wrong way, yelling “we’ll fix it live!” with confidence, and losing both her cues and a dog, in the same night. Previous “acting” credits include playing a fainting extra in her cousin’s TikTok and being a human spotlight (literally holding a flashlight for two hours). She would like to thank the stage floor for catching her every time she’s tripped.

Gracie Matthews is thrilled to be working as a backstage tech for this production. She's a perfectionist and super good at what she does, making sure everyone's on task and getting things done, as well as helping the actors and tech with any issues they may have! Although not big into theater, she's done tons of productions before since she's talented at so many things! In her free time, she loves reading horror novels!

Ben Johns keeps the backstage running smoothly; lights, sound, and set pieces are all in his capable hands. He’s notorious for having a bag of McDonald’s fries nearby, claiming they give him “tech magic powers.” Quick with a joke and always ready to lend a hand, Archie makes even the busiest rehearsal feel fun. He may sneak a bite in between cues, but he never misses a cue himself. His castmates know from experience that every fry comes with a price.

This is James Worthngton’s first time working on a theater production, and while he originally joined to complete volunteer hours, he’s discovered that the behind-the-scenes world is more engaging than he expected. From setting up lights to helping with scene changes, James has enjoyed learning how every detail comes together to make a show run smoothly. Though he doesn’t plan to pursue theater long-term, he’s proud to have been part of the team bringing this play to life. James would like to dedicate his work on this production to his Dad!

William Rookwood is proud to serve as the Cornley Drama Society’s official weapons manager—a position he created for himself after “accidentally” misplacing several prop swords during Julius Caesar. In The Murder at Haversham Manor, William ensures that all weaponry is completely safe… most of the time. When he’s not wrangling daggers, revolvers, or collapsing candlesticks, he assists with scene changes, emergency repairs, and the occasional first aid situation. William would like to remind the audience that any loud bangs or suspicious injuries tonight are absolutely intentional. Probably.

John Taylor is thrilled to be part of the Cornley Drama Society’s tech team for The Murder at Haversham Manor! When not handling lighting cues or resetting the (constantly collapsing) set, John can often be found helping his good friend search for a lost Duran Duran CD—a mission nearly as dramatic as the play itself. He takes great pride in keeping the show running smoothly… or at least running. John would like to thank his fellow crew members for their bravery, quick thinking, and willingness to pretend none of the disasters are their fault.

Murder at Haversham Manor Cast

Max is in his first year at Cornley Polytechnic where he is studying human geograph and crime. He is an avid fan of films and his favourite movie is The Legend of Bagger Vance which he has seen 27 times. This is Max’s first production with the society. He is very excited to be coming on board and glad to give the Drama Society a large portion of his recent inheritance to help the production reach the West End stage.

Jonathan takes on the challenging role of Charles Haversham, a man who has faked his own death to catch his brother making moves on his wife. Jonathan brings a unique flair to the part— occasionally forgetting he’s supposed to be dead, entering at all the wrong times, and proving that even corpses can cough. His interactions with the rest of the cast add an extra layer of comedy (and confusion), especially when their mistakes spiral back to him. Despite the chaos, Jonathan is proud of his deadly performance in The Murder at Haversham Manor!

This is Robert’s fifth production with the Cornley Drama Society, where he has been a member for three years. Past credits include A Navidad Carol (as Scrooge), The Lion and The Wardrobe (as The Lion), and Hamlet (every role, twice). Robert is also the author of several reflections on acting, including Pretending to Listen, Everyone Is Looking At YOU, and Respect for Backting: How to Act With Your Back. Robert would like to thank his parents for raising such a wonderful actor.

Christine is thrilled to present her directorial debut, The Murder at Haversham Manor. She has worked hard to help Cornley Drama Society become a more preferable theater company. Chris has acted in multiple shows before, using her theater experience to direct this play to the best of her ability. Outside of theater, Chris does nothing--theater is her life. But either way, she hopes you enjoy the fruits of the society's labor and be entertained by the play!

Carey Daniels (Inspector Carter) is honored to participate in the thrilling play, The Murder at Haversham Manor. Carey is fascinated by bringing fictional characters to life, and in her free time she loves to write and read British literature. Recently, Carey has taken a keen interest in directing. During this production, she has thoroughly enjoyed shadowing her director in addition to taking on the lead role. Past credits include Professor Plum in Clue and Vera Claythorne in Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None.

Annie is excited to be stage managing for the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society! She first got involved when a friend asked her to help backstage, and she’s been hooked ever since. She loves organizing, problemsolving, and doing her best to keep things running smoothly. Outside of theater, Annie likes baking and running track. She would like to thank her friends for always encouraging her and hopes you enjoy The Murder at Haversham Manor.

Sandra Wilkinson (appearing as Florence Colleymore) dreams of a career on Broadway. She has been with Cornley Polytech Drama Society for a long time, and has done shows like The Lion and the Wardrobe as the Wardrobe, James Where’s Your Peach? as Tree #2, and her favorite, the One Man Show: Romeo and Juliet, a show she produced herself. If you’re a talent agent please contact her at 408-123-456, not that she needs work or anything with her very very busy schedule. However, she might make an exception.

Taylor is a sophomore in high school and pretty much the head of everything techwise, but specializes in sound. She is really only here because Chris begged her to be. Taylor dabbles in many activities, but enjoys painting, baking, and performing in her band, Suburban Meltdown, the most. Because of her busy extracurricular life, she is a major insomniac and is always seen with an energy drink and her phone in her hand.

Denise is the newest member of the Cornley Drama Society and hopes to make friends. She joined after she failed the tryouts for soccer, golf, basketball, and frisbee. Outside of acting, she has many interests like soccer, golf, basketball, and frisbee. Denise is very nervous for this production, and hopes she doesn’t forget her lines and definitely didn’t write them on her arm just in case (sorry Chris). Her only acting credit includes her first-grade production of “Lion King Jr.” where she played a tree. Credits: Tree.

Arthur the Gardener is a very oblivious, blunt, brute….he has a dog named Winston who he cares for deeply but always seems to misbehave in the worst moments. Arthur still just loves his job and tries catching any suspicious things around the premises which will make his bosses proud to have hired him! Ok that’s it…and know he just loves to stick his shovel in people’s affairs 24/7 Denise is the newest member of the Cornley Drama Society and hopes to make friends. Murder at Haversham Manor Cast

Max is excited to perform in Murder in Haversham Manor. He thinks it’s really cool. He would like to thank his family, who has donated 85% of the funds to the Cornley Drama Society.

Arthur the Gardener is honored to be part of this very important and serious production. He has recently discovered a deep passion for the stage. Arthur has been rehearsing very hard and even practiced his lines with his plants at home, who gave great feedback. This is his first real acting role, but he’s confident his excellent shovel-holding skills have prepared him well. He would like to remind everyone to stay hydrated just as plants need too. Denise is very nervous for this production, and hopes she doesn’t forget her lines and definitely didn’t write them on her arm just in case (sorry Chris). Her only acting credit includes her first-grade production of “Lion King Jr.” where she played a tree. Credits: Tree.

Connor Daniels is excited to be in The Murder at Haversham Manor with the Cornley Theater Production as Inspector Carter. He’s a seasoned veteran at this company, with many roles such as Peter Pan in Peter Pan, Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, and Ariel in The Little Mermaid. Outside of acting, he takes singing lessons, writes short stories, and plays the violin and piano. He also performs as a lead in the local barbershop quartet. He would like to shout out himself for doing an awesome job for this production, and hopes you enjoy the show.

Rachel was very confident she would get the role as Mary Collymoore in The Murder at Haversham Manor. She has been acting for 3 years and is positive that her acting career will sky rocket after this show. Rachel would like to dedicate this show to herself because she is very proud of how amazing and perfect her acting is. Enjoy the show!

Chris, short for Christine, is the head of the Cornley Drama Society and is proud to present The Murder at Haversham Manor as her directorial debut! Chris has been working hard to make sure this production would be the best, and she believes that this production will be the Society’s best yet. Chris enjoys theater a lot, and she hopes you enjoy the show more!

Jonathan Is an experienced actor who debuted on the not quite a hit broadway show

“Moist: A Damp Musical” where he played the villain Darry the Dehumidifier. Outside of his one broadway show, Jonathan has done many shows with Cornley Drama Society including James where’s your peach (James) and The Miserables our english only version of Les Miserables (Fantine). He is looking forward to his last show with Cornley Drama Society, as a week after closing he will be leaving to Botswana to pursue his musical career.

Denise is delighted to play Perkins in “The Murder at Haversham Manor.” She recently took up acting for the first time since high school, following a brief job as a waitress. Despite occasional challenges, she’s proud of herself for how much effort she’s put in and, considering her lengthy hiatus from performing, for doing better than she thought she would. She’s loved getting to know her stage mates, now some of her best and only friends. She hopes you all enjoy the show and that you find it to be splendiforuse!

Taylor’s on the tech crew, running lights, sound, and all the things that only get noticed when they go wrong. She does the bare minimum to keep the play moving, making it obvious she’d rather be anywhere else. When she’s dragged onstage as Sandra, the fiery, ambitious role turns flat; her lines come out like a grocery list, frustrating the other actors but amusing her. She’s not here for passion or perfection, just enough effort to hold her spot and get through the show.

Sandra Wilkinson dreams of being on Broadway, with all the work she’s done she wildly deserves it in her opinion. She has been with Cornley Polytech Drama Society for a long time, and has done shows like The Lion and the Wardrobe as the Wardrobe, James Where’s Your Peach? as Tree #2, and her favorite, the One Man Show: Romeo and Juliet, a show she produced herself. If you’re a talent agent please contact her at 408-123-4567, not that she needs work or anything with her very very busy schedule. She might make an exception however.
