Important Announcement about Revisions to the Friday, Nov. 10 Oakmont Veterans Day Events

Due to the recent catastrophic wildfires that affected our community, we now have many more heroes to thank. The Veterans Day Planning Committee has decided that in place of the usual Veterans Parade, which goes through Oakmont Village, we will have a “stationary parade” by invitation only, which will include veterans and first responders. We invite the entire Oakmont Community to join us at the Berger Center area on Friday, November 10, starting at 11:30 a.m. This event is co-sponsored by OVA, Kiwanis Club of Oakmont and Oakmont Gardens. Please join us in honoring: Veterans: 2017 Grand Marshal—Captain Earl O’Grady, Army Air Force; Honorary Grand Marshals 2017—Navy Rear Admiral (2-star) Wendell “Mac” McHenry and Army Corporal Bob Reid; Lt. Col. Margaret “Lee” Marabito, Air Force Nurse, GM 2016; Major Del Teideman, Army, GM 2015; Lt. Cmdr. Frank Lloyd, Navy, GM 2014; Captain Jerry Foster, Army, GM 2010; Captain Pete Folkens, Coast Guard and Navy, GM 2007; and all veterans of all branches of military service. First Responders (examples): Cal Fire, Fire Departments, Police Departments, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department, National Guard and PG&E. Community Servants: Sonoma County Supervisors,

Santa Rosa City Council Members, Press Democrat and Kenwood Press.

EVENT SCHEDULE

11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.: Viewing and personal thanks to our veterans, first responders and all heroes that have protected us both in the past and more recently. 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.: Food will be served. 12:30–1:30 p.m.: Official Recognition of our veteran and first responder heroes in the Berger Center. Boy Scout Troop 55 Color Guard. 1:30–2:30 p.m.: Continued food and music. In addition the OVA office will be accepting donations. Please make checks payable to the Oakmont Community Foundation with a note on your check indicating Redwood CU Wildfire Fund. This will ensure your 100% tax-deductible donations are in good hands. OCF will serve as a “pass through” organization. We are bundling checks so recipients and the Santa Rosa community generally will know how much Oakmont cares. Checks will also be accepted at the event. Questions about the new format for the “stationary” Veterans Parade and the day’s events honoring

veterans and first responders can be directed to me at jayannecobb@comcast.net.
