MONDAYS, 9–10 am Beerger Center YMCA HEALTHY LIVING

Being healthy means more than simply being physically active. It’s about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind and body. JoRene Woodworth: “The joy of movement. I have been teaching group fitness since 1980, when I started at the YMCA. I continued in this nurturing field to gain training and experience in multiple modes of fitness. Currently, I am teaching primarily Pilates and an outdoor Boomers Bootcamp at the Recreation and Parks Finley Center. I look forward to moving our muscles to music, where we can gain and maintain strength, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility. See you soon!”

WEDNESDAYS, 9–10 am Berger Center

Oct. 15: Zumba Fit and Fun with Lynn Seng (no mats today). Please wear supportive shoes that are not too grippy, bring water and, as always, a smile. Come see what Zumba Fit and Fun can do for you. Stretch and tone your muscles, memory and balance while we dance to Latin beats, Golden Oldies, and pop songs your teenage grandchildren listen to. Don’t worry, this is not a fast class, but we are learning how to move faster, building strength, stamina, confidence and having fun. And it all comes with plenty of instruction and encouragement. Oct. 22: MELT Introduction (20 minutes) and Zumba Gold with Anna. Class will divide. Everyone will get a chance for both sessions. MELT is an easy self-treatment technique to remove stuck stress and restore vibrant health to connective tissue throughout the body. This innovative practice

reduces pain, tension, risk of injury, signs of aging; improves mobility, alignment, sleep, digestion and hydration. Whether you are a desk jockey or an athlete, find out how MELT will help you! Oct. 29: YMCA’s Becky Green. Add a Halloween touch to your workout attire. Laughter is the best medicine!

Fridays, 9–10:15 am berger center (Oct. 17 at the east rec.)

Stretch, Body conditioning and Balance with Mary Hastings, SRJC Older Adults Program/Santa Rosa Junior College. This is a gentle class. If you have ever been in physical therapy, you will remember the movements. Exercises are done standing, sitting in a chair and on the mat. Thank you for your generous contributions to Oakmont Community Foundation, supporting the health of our community through physical education. Special thanks to Dr. Robert Bliss D.C. of Oakmont Chiropractic and John Phillips, Oakmont Fitness Trainer. They are volunteering their time to serve as safety spotters during class. Website: Please visit Oakmont Health Initiative website https://sites.google.com/site/oakmonthealthinitiative/ home to preview upcoming classes and learn more about your instructors for free fitness. Take care of yourselves dear ones. Please check with your doctor prior to beginning this or any exercise regimen. All free fitness classes are too large to accommodate those who need special supervision. If you have shoulder, back, knee problems, anything that is painful, it is advisable to join a smaller, well-supervised class first and consult a personal trainer or medical professional to learn modifications that are suitable to your condition. Participants need to use their judgment and body awareness altering each exercise to prevent injury.

FLIP TURN NEWS

Welcome West Pool swimmers to the Central and East during renovations! As the weather begins to change for all of us, or because you are normally a warm water swimmer, you might consider wearing a swim top/rash guard in order to swim more comfortably. Checking at Sports Authority, we found several choices ranging in price from $28–$80 to help keep you warm. REI, Big 5, or a dive shop may also carry what you need to continue your swims throughout the year. Don’t let weather be an excuse not to swim!

GOOD TO THE LAST LAP!

If you are a lap swimmer at Oakmont, join our group for pool information, updates, to express your voice on various issues, or just get to know other swimmers. We do not require you to log your laps, pay dues, or do anything but have fun swimming! Send your name and E-mail address to lapswim@ sonic.net to be added to our membership.
