THE LEAD In collaboration with the Oakland Unified School District to address Title IX challenges, Oakland Lacrosse will build a eight team Varsity Girls’ Lacrosse league with the existing program at Oakland Tech as the model and the addition of seven new programas at Skyline High School, Oakland High School, Fremont High School, Castlemont High School, McClymonds High School, Coliseum College Prep, and Madison Park Academy. The establishment of this league will provide an additional 175 girls and their families with a holistic, trauma informed approach to sports based youth development that includes lacrosse skill development, leadership development, academic counseling, college counseling, and wellness education.

In Spring 2020, we had 171 players in grades 6-12 of which 99 were girls.

2019

70% of players who were able to engage

in physical activities year round through practice, games, and clinics offered by the program improved their fitness levels (per PACER tests) by the end of the year.

In we created a Summer Ambassador Program with the City of Oakland Department of Parks, Recreation and Youth Development, ten high school girls were trained as youth coaches and were paid a $1,000 stipend to provide introductory lacrosse sessions to elementary students at parks and rec sites across Oakland. In total 300 kids were exposed to the sport and our girls learned valuable skills in youth development and leadership.

Angeline has participated in our program since 2016. She was one of the first girls from Urban Promise Academy to join our program back in 6th grade. And she has played a critical role in building out the first program at Oakland High. Angeline recently was accepted to Cal State East Bay, and will be the first in her family to attend college. 2016 Angline joins OLC through our outreach program at Urban Promise Academy in Oakland’s Fruitvale District.

2017 2018

Oakland Lacrosse starts a Girls High School team at Oakland High, and Angeline plays a pivotal leadership role in recruiting girls to join.

2019 2020

Angeline becomes part of Oakland Lacrosse Summer Ambassador program, serving as one of 15 coaches at local Park and Recs and Summer School sites, helping to expose the sport to over 600 elementary aged youth.

2021 Angeline is accepted into Cal State East Bay!

TIMELINE

Angeline participates in our college counseling program receiving one on one support from creating her college list and application strategy to writing her personal statement.

Angeline participates in our middle school academic counseling program, which includes mentoring, goal setting, and guidance in Oakland’s Public High School Open Enrollment Process.
