Message from the Head of School “Live for eternity.”

Dear Oak Knoll School Community, This year we celebrate the 95th anniversary since the original founding of Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child Jesus on the Larned Estate in Summit, New Jersey.

When the school welcomed its first students – six boarders and 11 day students – on September 24, 1924, Grace Hall (“Stoneover”) was originally a convent, Connelly Hall was a stable, Tisdall and Bonaventura Halls didn’t exist, Mulcahy Hall was a private residence, and the prospect of owning 14 acres of property in Chatham was unimaginable.

What will our campus look like 95 years from now?

It is because of our generous donors that we have progressed so much since our original founding, and it is because of you that we continue to build upon that strong foundation, year after year.

Your contribution to the 2018-19 Annual Fund helped us to raise more than $1 million for the fourteenth year in a row and allowed us to: • • • • • • • • •

Install video surveillance cameras throughout campus Purchase additional network software for virus protection and backup Install new LED lighting in the Lower School Library and kindergarten room Enhance the employee benefit program Replace the gutters at Bonaventura Hall Refurbish the main hallway in Connelly Hall Create an outside wall and seating area with furniture at Summit athletic field Replace doors in Grace and Tisdall halls Continue to enhance classroom furniture

I am sure our original benefactors would not have dreamed of the needs of the 21st century and beyond, but Cornelia’s maxim, “live for eternity,” means we must be “aware” and plan for tomorrow.

We are looking ahead. We are planning for the future. Because of you, Oak Knoll will “live for eternity.”

2018-19 ANNUAL REPORT Dear Friends, On behalf of the Oak Knoll Board of Trustees, it is my pleasure to share Oak Knoll’s Annual Report for the 2018-19 school year. During each year of my service on the Board, the Oak Knoll community has given us many reasons to celebrate. Thanks to you, 2018-19 represents another year of more than $1 million raised in support of our annual fund; dollars that allow Oak Knoll to attract and retain the very best students today and well into the future. The pages that follow are a testament to those accomplishments and to our shared sense of community and faith in Oak Knoll’s mission.

In its 95 years of operation, Oak Knoll has always looked with fresh eyes at the ways it can meet the challenges and opportunities of the times, and this has enabled the school to thrive and grow while staying true to its mission. This past year was no exception. The many updates to Oak Knoll’s physical plant — some are visible and some not — help us meet our ongoing commitment to provide facilities that match the quality of our programs. Behind the scenes, the Board supported the administration, faculty and staff as they engaged in a self-study for re-accreditation from the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools and a self-study exploring Oak Knoll’s effectiveness in delivering on its mission. The results of both studies underscore the fact that Oak Knoll has a wonderful story to tell.

As we embark on our 95th year, the Board maintains its strategic focus on attracting and retaining the very best faculty and staff and offering exceptional programs and facilities to support our students. We work diligently to ensure the excellence of an Oak Knoll education while staying true to our Catholic mission. It is my sincere honor to represent Oak Knoll as Board Chair, and I thank Tim Saburn, the administration, faculty, and staff for their support.

To my fellow Trustees and Trustee Emeriti, I extend my warmest thanks for your service.

I am fortunate to lead a Board comprised of current parents, alumnae, past parents, and friends who serve out of love for the school. The advice, commitment, and financial support of the Board are a gift. As we look to the future, the Board is committed to making progress toward our shared goals. We look forward to sharing this journey with each of you.

ANNE DOLAN LOFREDO SCHOLARSHIP EST. 2019 Anne Dolan Lofredo was a cherished member of our Oak Knoll community for 37 years. She taught students in the Lower School lessons of love, kindness and outreach to others. Anne is remembered for her intelligence, humor, humility, laughter and devotion to the Oak Knoll community. We are grateful for the time we had with her and the impact she had on so many of her students/colleagues’ and parents’ lives.

This fund was established by Anne’s family to honor her memory and commemorate her 37 years of service to Oak Knoll as a Lower School teacher of science, social studies and religion. The annual income from the fund provides partial tuition for a deserving Lower School student to promote diversity at the school in accordance with Anne’s desire for inclusion of all, where every child matters regardless of means.

Tributes are inscribed in the honor/memorial book just outside the Grace Hall Chapel and are perpetually remembered in the prayers of the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus.

ENDOWMENT Gifts to Oak Knoll’s endowment are important expressions of support for the School’s future. When contributing to an endowment fund, a donor’s intent is that the principal from the gift be used to generate earnings for the School in perpetuity. Income from endowment funds may be used to support the general operations of the School or a specific area of interest to the donor, such as scholarship aid or faculty professional development.

JOANN LUCEY AINSWORTH ’64 SCHOLARSHIP FUND Est. 2013

Established by generous members of the Oak Knoll Community, the Joanne Ainsworth Scholarship Fund supports, annually, one or more Lower School families with a financial award to be used toward payment of tuition. The intention behind the fund is to alleviate the financial strain of a private education on families who are committed to Catholic education for their children, but who struggle to meet the Lower School tuition requirements. The award is given on a year-to-year basis, and support for the chosen family or families may or may not extend beyond a single year. Decisions are made at the discretion of Oak Knoll school leadership with special consideration for families with more than one child attending the Lower School.

ATHLETIC FIELDS

The family of Susan Bacher, class of 1978, has established this fund in her memory. Susan died of cancer at age 25, and this fund is designed to perpetuate her name by awarding annual scholarship assistance to a commendable student in need.
