President’s Corner

Happy 2015, Key Clubbers! I love you all and I hope you ended 2014 on a good note.

It's a new year and a new you! But one thing that should stay the same for most of you is your passion for service!

I'm telling you now, 2015 is going to be the bomb.com, or whatever new lingo we decide to pick up throughout the year. Whatever it is, YAAAAASSS! With this new year, that means it's time to make some New Year's Resolutions.

What's mine? My goal is to have purpose in my life. Sometimes when volunteering or finishing a Key Club email, I forget why I'm doing it in the first place. After drowning in the work part of Key Club, I forget what I was looking for when I joined Key Club. Why am I waking up at 5am to help strangers?

How about you? Do you have any resolutions? It's ok to say no because you don't need one to inspire change within yourself. Just go have fun! It's a new year and I encourage you to make it one you will be proud of.

Remember: "Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year."

Editor’s Letter

Hey Key Clubbers!

It’s your bulletin editor again and our term is almost over! I can’t believe I have improved making newsletters so much over this past term! From one of the most boring people ever could make this, then you all should be able to too! Woohoo! Well, in 3 months, our term will finally be over. I can’t believe how far we’ve made it as a club and we only can go one place now! Up! Keep on serving Key Clubbers!

Well in this newsletter, there were so many things going on in December! From Rose Float Decorating to the nearing of DCON, this newsletter has it! If any of you guys or girls are interested in appearing in the Oxford Academy Newsletter please send EMILY HUYNH an email! She’ll give you information about how you can get started ^_^ Since it’s the new year, I only want our club to serve! I promise to be as active as I can and turn in my newsletters on time! Hopefully I can keep this up till the end of the year! I want to be able to get to know all of you so please hit me up whenever you are in need of help or just want someone to talk to! I don’t bite I hope… Just Kidding!

Ambition It just hit me that my Key Club term is almost over. It seems only yesterday that I was elected for this position, and yet in reality that was almost a year ago. Now as a senior, I feel quite emotional as the year rapidly continues. I anxiously ponder the past and the future wondering what I could have done better in my term and who will take charge in the upcoming years.

I had the privilege of meeting 2 young suns of OAKC when I volunteered at Oxford Academy's Instrumental Show this past month. I remember chairing the same event my sophomore year, and I did not have the charisma and goals that these young Key Clubbers had. I will not mention their names but they know exactly who they are.

While we volunteered they told me about their goal to apply for board positions and why they joined Key Club. Listening to them talk passionately about this organization, this bright community of outstanding service leaders, made me reminisce on my experience. As I told them my stories, they listened intently. All I kept thinking about as words flew out of my mouth was that I was once in their position. But I was never this eager or motivated, and while many would find that discouraging, I was moved.

Key Club deserves leaders like these 2 students. Not only are they dedicated, they are goal-oriented, and since Key Club poses many challenges, I have no doubt that the club will thrive with these unofficial core values. Now that my term is coming to an end, I am confident that the next generation of OAKC leaders will work in enhancing the club.

December DCM! THE WINTER EXTRAVAGANZA It’s that favorite time of year again where you can hang out with friends, family, and your pets! School is out for the winter break and SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN. This year, I started off my winter break right. With KEY CLUB! This December DCM has a very special meaning to me. Why? Well, this DCM is the reason why I fell in love with Key Club, the reason why I saw the true meaning of the Key Club spirit. Though it had some minor differences, this WINTER EXTRAVAGANZA was a flashback from the past. Let’s RECAP: After signing in, we began the meeting with of course, our DCM. We accomplished our Division’s goal for Project Eliminate and PTP (Pediatric Trauma Program). For those who don’t know, Project Eliminate, joined by Kiwanis International and UNICEF, to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. MNT is a deadly disease which kills the lives of over 60.000 innocent babies and women each year. PTP, on the other hand, reach is to reduce the amount of children who are killed or injured by trauma, ensuring happiness in the children’s lives. Oxford Academy, in addition, received 2nd place for shining club of the month! (Can I get an “OH YEAH!”) Preceeding the DCM, we got to talk and socialize with the D30 Rhinos. We also got to chow down on the yummiest food, from the luscious Mac N’ Cheese to the scrumptious brownies and cupcakes.During our meal, we had a supermodel fashion show, showcasing the ugliest sweaters. Tops to our DLT’s ugliest sweaters with Anmol Shrestha’s face (Katella’s Key Club President.). Congrats to the winners of the contest.

Soon after, those who decided to participate in the White Elephant Gift Exchange gathered in a circle outside and met a new friend. Nonetheless, our service project was making little Christmas Cards to send to children from CHOC. Overall, December DCM was a great way to start my winter break. With my key club family, amazing food, new friends, and much more, it wouldn’t be a holiday without them.

Division Updates December DCM Reminders January DCM | Region Conclave

SunShine Stats!

Congrats to us for getting 2nd DCM will be on the 20th and it place in the shining Club for will be a bonding event with the month of November! Good Division 30N. We will be having job for all of your hard work in food and an ugly sweater con- November everyone! test! Come out and have fun with the division.

Star Wars Half Marathon!

The Star Wars Half Marathon at Disneyland will be taking place on the 17th! Sign Ups have already been taken however be on the look out for future events! ^_^

January Event! Ice Skating Social Hello Everyone! Saturday, January 24th, 2015, Division 30South will be holding a division social! We will be holding an Ice Skating Social at Anaheim Ice from 7PM to 9PM! Division 30South will be selling tickets for 11 dollars and part of the ticket will go to us! ^_^ Come out and support Division 30 South with fundraiser!
