Hello Key Clubbers!

Hope you've been finding a smooth transition into second semester! It's always hard to come back from winter break (and some people never do...) but the good news is that we have all these wonderful Mondays and Fridays off late January and in February. That's something to look forward to!

With second semester rolling around, that also means it's a slow crawl to the finish, waiting for next year's 1st semester. Just because of that, however, doesn't mean you shouldn't volunteer! Take some time to destress and volunteer with some lovely people :) Though February often doesn't have many events occurring, March begins the season of school carnivals! Yay! With January coming to an end, also, we had our elections. I hope you are all super pumped for the upcoming year because it will be an exciting one! With that in mind, don't forget that appointed board applications are coming out soon......so make sure to apply! I know every one of you has the potential inside of you to apply, especially if you're reading my President's Corner, so don't be shy and do take that chance.

It's a chance you won't regret.

My own term is wrapping up, but don't forget I'm still here until April! (after that...who knows #classof2016) It's probably much too early to say this, but I've thoroughly enjoyed serving everyone and hope you all get through high school with ease!

Now, for the quote of the month: "Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there." --Will Rogers That being said, make sure you keep your goals in mind when you really don't want to study for that test, or just try in general. We all want to see our dreams come to fruition. Special shout out to the seniors feeling senioritis!

Hey OA Key Clubbers, Woah, second semester is rolling in so quickly. Did you know a month has already passed?

Can you believe? Only 72 school days left (excluding weekends and breaks)?!? My gosh!

Hopefully all of you are taking second semester with a great start! With so many things going on in our lives, I know it can be stressful. As for me, with junior year being the most important year for college, I have been dealing with a lot of stress, but with Key Club and my friends, I’m still hanging on that cliff!

It is important for everyone to take the time and de-stress from homework and studying. For me, I use volunteering and Key Club, for example, this month I attended the Ice Skating Social hosted by our lovely Division 30 South, to take some time off and have a few hours of fun with my friends! There are so many events that you all should attend, whether its Hope Food Distribution, an bi-weekly event, Boys and Girls Club, a weekly event, or a division event!

With this note, I would like to remind you all that since we have our new executive board (check out page 18), board applications will be coming in a blink of an eye. Even if you think you won’t make it, I still encourage you all to apply! In freshmen year, I thought I was going to be rejected from being Historian, but with one phone call, I made it in!!!! And look where I am now, the Bulletin Editor for OAKCthe following year. You all have the potential to grow and even if you do make some mistakes on the way, remember to always get right back up! Don’t let anything stop you from doing your greatest!

And lastly, since this is the month of February, I wish you all a Happy Early Valentine’s Day!!!!!

If you don’t have a valentines, Key Club will be yours!!! Bringing lots of love!

It’s almost that time of year where new members join Key Club. Where eager freshman want to finish their 100 hours in that one year. Even though they might be excited about their first event they might be little nervous. So here are my tips to all.

1.What to expect?

Many new members don’t really know what to expect their first event. Just keep an open mind about different tasks you might do it all can differ from picking up trash to even pouring water into paper cups. Just smile and keep a positive attitude.

2. What do I bring?

The hated question on what you should bring. Honestly when volunteering you should try to stay light, unless you know the event and know you will need something like a backpack but usually keep it simple.

Bring your phone for pictures, carry a couple of bills incase you may get hungry and food, sadly isn’t provided. Always look out for emails or post about the event you are volunteering at incase you need something like and I.D card.

3.Will I be with my Friends?

Having to part from a love one is tough but having to part from a love one for a couple of hours can be even tougher. Just keep in mind that sometimes you might get separated and it’s not a big deal you will meet amazing new people. Sometime the people in charge of the event need a limit on volunteers doing a job and you might get separated for a short period of time but its all good because fellow Key Clubbers will be there with you.

4. Where do I go when I get there?

Its always tough to find people in crowded events but it’s all okay. First try to remember who was chairing the even, someone on board and try to look for them. They sometimes wear bright yellow t-shirts. If that doesn't work out its still okay look around and ask people who is in charge of volunteers eventually you will find the volunteer coordinator and she/he will direct you. She/he might lead you straight to your friends or the board member you couldn’t find.

In the end what’s most important is what you gain, and you will gain a lot of

the many events you go to. First you will meet a lot of different people some that go to your school others that don’t and sometimes even get to meet some pretty cool adults. Look at that a freshman and already networking. You will also gain experience in many things such as working with kids, learning about the community and countless of other things. In the end your experience will be great and even if your

first event doesn't turn out fantastic it just keeps getting better and better.

Once I entered the building, I felt immersed by the gravity of the situation. The decisions made by these delegates from the division would play a crucial role in the future of the division. To ensure my decision was the right one, I spent the following hours attentively listening to the speeches, amazed by the dedication and hard work demonstrated by these candidates during their time spent in Key Club. The time I spent there reminded me of the purpose I decided to create for myself when I became a Key Clubber. It reminded me of the times where I would wake up early in the morning serving the community. I reminded me of the times where I would stay late into the night serving the community. It reminded me of all of the people I met during my time in Key Club, the people who guided me and continue to inspire me. With this reminder, I knew I the direction I needed to head in to become the next president.

After the elections were over, the winner was revealed to be Kelly Tran, continuing the line of LTG’s coming from Oxford. Congratulations!

Being a part of the Key Club ohana has changed my life so much, and I’m so glad for the chance to serve you guys. I can’t wait for another sun-tastic year of fun and service with all of you!

Hello patriots! I'm Vivian Bui, and most of you guys might only know me as the girl with the big camera, but now I serve as your secretary for the '16-'17 term. As secretary, I'll be doing a lot of the behind the scene work in our club.

My biggest goal for this year is for everyone to experience their own Key Club moment.

Whether it's at a service event or DCM, I hope everyone gets that moment where they feel like they belong and are naturally drawn back to the club. On a side note, I'm super duper excited to personally meet you all at events and general meetings. I'm very approachable and awkward, so feel free to say hi to me. I can't wait for a bui-tiful term!

I’m Jeniffer Aguilar and I will be serving as one of your Vice Presidents. I’m so happy I got to meet a lot of you guys this year. Don’t mind me if I see you across the quad and yell to say hi to you. This term I’m going to focus most of my attention on you guys, our members. I plan on just talking to general members and just volunteer with you all. I defiantly plan on bringing general members closer to the point where we all just talk in the general meeting instead of having small clichés. PTP otherwise known as Pediatric Trauma Prevention or Program is a project that the Kiwanis has been supporting for a very long time.

Did you know that Unintentional injury is the #1 killer among children under the age of 14? More than 90 percent of these injuries are preventable, however the only way that we can prevent these diseases is if we make a difference, one baby step at a time! Many of these injuries are caused by the lack of equipment or protection. When the Kiwanis International realized the need to decrease all of these accidental deaths, they created the Pediatric Trauma Program in 1994.

PTP is used to create and find programs to do many things. For example. PTP trains pediatric doctors, nurses, and first responders to specialize in childcare. In addition, PTP finds programs to purchase much needed pediatric medical equipment such as incubators for the newborns. It is also used to create and expand community outreach programs that teach the locals about the importance of helmets, seat belts, and playground safety, etc.

There are many ways that we can help PTP. We can sponsor service projects that revolve around topics such as bicycle safety.

We can also work with the Children’s Miracle Network which helps out with PTP often. Recently, the Children’s Miracle Network teamed up with Dairy Queen and iHOP in a fundraiser, where you can get their delicious food and help a cause all at the same time!

Nonetheless, we ourselves, can host fundraisers so we are able to donate towards this crucial cause. This is only possible if we get every involved with the project. And it all starts with you. If you are free, come and help as much as you can!

February is This month’s Spotlight on service is Children’s Miracle Network.

Children’s Miracle Network is one of Key Club’s Preferred Charities. The mission of CMN is to raise funds and awareness for our local Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. CMN strives to save young lives battling virtually every type of childhood illness and injury by helping to purchase proper equipment, training doctors, implementing outreach programs, and providing healthcare for children whose parents cannot afford to pay.
