awaii Baptist Academy is a college preparatory school that equips students spiritually, intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally. Since its beginning in 1949, Hawaii Baptist Academy has served the families of Hawaii as a community committed to academic excellence for all students regardless of their ethnicity or religious affiliation. At HBA, we provide our students with a safe, nurturing, Christian environment where they can learn to thrive. This approach has proved successful with all HBA graduates gaining acceptance to colleges in Hawaii and numerous colleges nationwide and abroad. HBA students also regularly score above the national and state averages on both the Scholastic Aptitude Test and the American College Test. With an enrollment of more than 1,000 students from kindergarten through grade 12, HBA offers a full academic program and is able to provide students with more personal attention than much larger schools. The smaller class sizes also allow students the opportunity to develop lifelong friendships. HBA is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and the Association of Christian Schools International. It is licensed by the Hawaii Council of Private Schools. HBA is governed by a board of directors elected by the executive board of the Hawaii Pacific Baptist Convention, an association of Southern Baptist churches in Hawaii.

We prepare students for everyday challenges through Christianbased instruction with proven curriculum strategies and the latest in technology www.hba.net for grades K-12.

WHERE THE MONEY’S AT

S

ix of the 10 college majors with the highest salaries for new graduates have something to do with engineering. So says a survey from the National Association of Colleges and Employers, which notes that computer engineering majors earned the top spot with an average starting salary of $70,400 for graduates who ďŹ nished school in 2012. Chemical engineering majors came in second with an average starting

salary of $66,400, while computer science majors, with average starting salaries of $64,400, came in third. The NACE salary survey relied on information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the United States Census Bureau and Job Search Intelligence, a compensation management ďŹ rm. In addition to computer science, the survey, which examined starting salaries for new graduates in more than 90 ďŹ elds of study, found that ďŹ nance, construction science/management and information sciences and systems were the only majors outside the ďŹ eld of engineering to crack the top 10.

Continuing our Tradition of Excellence in Single-gender Education

St. Andrew’s Preparatory School for Boys will offer single-gender education beginning August 2014 for kindergarten through fifth grade. It will be Hawai‘i’s only elementary school for boys. Together with St. Andrew’s Priory School for Girls, K-12, the St. Andrew’s Schools continues to be a leader of excellence in gender-specific education. Apply today.

THE ST. ANDREW’S SCHOOLS

T

he St. Andrew’s Schools is an Episcopal School comprised of three schools, the Queen Emma Preschool, The Priory, K-12 college-prep school for girls, and The Prep, a K-5 school for boys. Girls and boys learn very differently and The Prep and The Priory embrace those differences by offering separate classrooms that facilitate unique styles of teaching appropriate for each gender. The Priory has embodied this philosophy for girls for 147 years and now will strive to ďŹ ll this need for young boys. The St. Andrew’s Prep was founded in response to families looking for a tailored education for their boys that will help them achieve; the research is clear that single-gender learning provides both girls and boys an enhanced learning environment speciďŹ c to their learning styles. Since 1867, The Priory has earned a reputation as one of Hawai‘i’s premier college-preparatory schools for girls, graduating conďŹ dent, articulate women who make valuable contributions at home and around the world. The St. Andrew’s Schools continues its leadership in differentiated instruction to address one of the growing challenges facing America today: the education of boys. Traditional learning models can leave boys behind if their learning needs are not considered. The Prep classes are designed for boys in keeping with how they learn based on current research and best practice. The St. Andrew’s Schools: The Priory School for Girls, The Prep School for Boys, and Queen Emma PreSchool.
