Technology Column
On Wednesday the 27 of April Strike Percussion performed for all the teachers and students of Bucklands Beach Intermediate. Three of the members of strike performed 5 of there best pieces. The amazing introduction was done by Murray Hickman and takumi Motokawa. They started with a drum performance and then Leni Sulusi joined in.We had an interviewed with them and asked them a couple of questions. there advise to young musicians was yo never give up as you will deny it when you are older and to practice, practice, practice. go on the website to view the full interview. if you would like to listen to some of there fantastic music, you can find it on the iTunes store.
26 April Team A was keen to go on the Mangemangeroa walk. All the students were given worksheets to fill-in with facts of native trees, plants, insects and birds. The Ranger told the students information on all the native plants and creatures. There was a long trail to walk on, while walking the students saw lots of wildlife including tuis, kereru and trees such as the totara and manuka. When the students finished the walk everyone was exhausted.
Laptop Program Last year BBI introduced a 1:1 laptop programme for students. We are Y8 student who took advantage of this programme and we bring our own Apple laptops to school every day. The laptop programme gives the students at BBI to take their learning one step further, It helps in reading, english and all the class lessons. We think that having a laptop really helps me and it definitely has expanded my learning.

We love this opportunity to try out new ideas and create our work digitally. We hope many more students can have the same opportunity that We had last year.

THE BBI HERALD Camp 2010 This year the Year 7s went to Camp Motutapu on Motutapu Island on March, as they waited to board the ferry you could feel the excitement in everyone. On the ferry everyone was could not wait to get off the ferry but then Matt from fuel started shooting water balloons from below deck with is sling and he thought it was very funny but really it was not, some people got soaked! On the gravel road they walked, surrounded by old volcanic rock everyone was very tired. After an 2 Hour Tramp they finally arrived to the camp the year 7s were all relieved, tired and excited all at the same time. As Matt from fuel started shooting water balloons from his slingshot 驶 AGAIN! With help of a few other students. They all settled down for a well deserved lunch. After lunch the fun started right away. Everyone ran off to claim their beds and get ready for their first activities, there were lot始s of activities like kayaking, snorkeling, high ropes, and rock climbing just to name a few. That night everyone sat down in the mess hall for a delicious dinner of nachos and mince, and for dessert.... Chocolate fudge, but photo by: Fletcher Howell to be honest no one really liked the fudge. Afterwards they had an auction, using camp money which they received for having good behavior and good skills at the activities. The next day they woke up to a good day by Mrs Sorensen and Mr Chadderton Straight after breakfast they started their activities, Then in the middle of the second activity DISASTER happens, someone has fallen off the rock-climbing wall!

What we didnʼt know about the
Japan Trip
By Catherine Theunissen, Nicole McLennan and Kelsey Boyd
This year we are planning our biennial visit to Japan during Term 2. A letter
We know the specialist teachers but there are many things we didnʼt know about them. Every teacher has a different and special story. We interviewed five of the specialist teachers. Mr. Gray from Woodwork told us how he got into Hard Materials, “I was in the Navy as an engineer, when I left I decided I wanted to be a teacher and went to college and became a hard materials teacher”. Mr. Gray has been working at BBI for about nine years now and likes woodwork because “itʼs a lovely, natural material to work with; itʼs easier than metal work” he tells us. He also does hard materials at home. He recently made a chicken house! Mr. Marrett has been teaching at BBI for three years from “now and then”. Why did he get into graphics and design? “Iʼve always loved it since I was little” he tells us. His favorite part of teaching at BBI is when he sees students making progress. Did you know that the original science room was in room 8? Mr. McKenzie tells us about some things. Why does he enjoy science? “Because itʼs the best subject in the world!” he said enthusiastically. Mr. McKenzie likes to go sailing and has been teaching here “too long” he told us with a laugh. Mrs. Jack learned how to cook at a young age of five with her mum. She knew she wanted to be a teacher but a different one so she went to home craft teacher school where she became a specialist teacher. We asked her if she ever wanted to be something other than a specialist teacher, “yes, I wanted to be a nurse”. Last but not least Miss Paterson… she first got into art by winning a national coloring competition at five years old! Sheʼs been drawing and painting ever since. What is her favorite part of art? “Seeing the end result” Miss P likes art the most because everybody sees it. Our last question was how many people does Miss P like to teach at a time? “Smaller classes” she answered. Itʼs amazing some of the things our specialist teachers have done.
