Starting from September 1944 all domestic mail in Hungary had to be censored. From the censor marks found on domestic correspondence it becomes clear that the censoring was mainly carried out by the field post offices. Although an order was issued to perform this censoring, a fair amount of domestic mail can be found without a censor mark.

From the moment Hungary participated in WWII, a compulsory labour service was introduced similar to the German one. The labourers were accommodated in labour camps. The correspondence from these labourers was also censored by the field post offices. This correspondence was not free from paying postage. They also had to mark ”kmsz” on their correspondence, which is an abbreviation of the Hungarian expression ´közérdekü munkaszolgálat” which means “labour service”. This helped the censor to identify the letter. From April1944 the field post offices of the 1 st Hungarian Army were operational again and the censoring of the correspondence of the labour camps was carried out by those field post offices. An oval sized censor mark was placed on the censored mail.
