5) The fee for special delivery (express delivery) was dependent whether the parcel was to deliver within the working area of the recipient post office or without this area. The fee left of the slash is for within the working area and right of the slash without this area. During tariff period VI this additional fee was doubled in case a delivery was required during night hours (between 22.00 and 0600h) 6) During tariff periods I and II domestic postal rates were also valid for parcels sent to the following foreign countries: Austria, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Poland and West-Ukraine. Also for some German areas (Silesia, Saxony, Bavaria, Würtemberg, Thuringia and Baden), whilst for other parts of Germany the postage for a parcel up to 10 kg amounted to Kčs 2.60 ( only during tariff period I), up to 15 Kg to Kčs 4.40 (Tariff periods I and II) and for a parcel up to 20 kg to Kčs 6.20 (Tariff periods I and II). Parcels were not freely allowed into other countries. Even the delivery of parcels to former Austro-Hungary and Germany was heavily restricted or sometimes completely stopped. 7) It was not possible as yet to establish the postage rates in Slovakia. For example, from 15-06-1918 a war tax was applied to the normal postage, which amounted to 20 forint. It is not clear whether this war tax was still in force after the creation of the new Czecho-Slovak Republic. A number of post offices in Slovakia changed over to the rates used in Bohemia as early as during the validity of tariff period I. 8) At the beginning of tariff period IV unrestricted parcel service was only possible with Austria and Germany. 9) For parcels sent abroad and coming from abroad the fees for all extra services were stated in “gold francs” The rate of exchange to the Crown was published in the Bulletin of the Ministry of Post and Telegraphs ( during 1922 this rate changed 5 times.
