WILLIAM MARTIN FOR WSN

Wilmer Valderrama and Rosario Dawson discussed the importance of voter registration and encouraged students to be politically active. By TANAY HUDSON Actors Rosario Dawson and Wilmer Valderrama visited NYU to raise awareness for National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday. Together, Dawson and Valderrama have visited Hofstra University, St. John’s University, Columbia University and Newark University. Eighty other organizations were also participating in promoting

National Voter Registration Day, including Autism Speaks, Goodwill Industries, Inc. and National Education Association. Dawson currently serves as the chairwoman of an organization called Voto Latino, which was founded in 2004 to encourage young Latino Americans to vote and to get them involved in the political process. Mariam Newsom, associate director of Alumni Relations and one of the event’s

organizers, first learned about Voto Latino from a CAS alumna who encouraged the organization to visit NYU. “[Voto Latino] started with this idea that the Latino community needed some kind of kick in the ass,” Valderrama said. “We needed to take our involvement in the national community as serious as we take our lives.” At the event, Valderrama said 50 percent of Americans ages 18 to

New app invites users to give, receive advice on men’s fashion By KATHRYN JONES

According to Dapprly CEO and founder Anoop Kansupada, dapper describes someone who owns their style. Kansupada recently launched Dapprly, an application that allows men to seek advice about their wardrobe by posting photographs. Through social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, users upload two mobile images of themselves so friends, followers, the Dapprly team and the public can vote on the two choices. “It’s an app to help men get dressed with what they already have with the advice of their friends,” Kansupada said. “It focuses on men utilizing it and

women embracing it.” Kansupada began with no previous experience in fashion but was inspired to create the global advice system while consulting his best friend on what to wear. Even though the future CEO thought he was dressed in attire appropriate for a city outing and dinner, his best friend disapproved of his outfit. “You don’t dress for the neighborhood,” she explained to him. “You dress for the actual location you’re going to.” “I think most women already know that, but men don’t realize you dress for the restaurant or destination,” Kansupada said.

25 are registered to vote, while only 39 percent of Latinos of that age group are registered to vote. “You look at 50,000 young Latino people turning 18 years old every month and you ask,‘Imagine if all these percentages of the population worked to engage,’” Valderrama said. “We would really be able to shape the country we need. You have the power.”

The NYU Wasserman Center for Career Development is seeking to showcase internships, service opportunities and work experiences that NYU students and alumni are pursuing through the “#iamlimitless” campaign. The campaign encourages students to share their career success stories on Facebook and Twitter to win prizes from employer sponsors. By engaging students through social media, the Wasserman Center hopes to connect students and display job opportunities gained through the center. To date, there have been over 100 submissions on Twitter — including a retweet from Tisch alumnus Spike Lee, who has more than 300,000 followers on the social networking site. For a second time this week, NYU women’s soccer blew out their opponents, as they took charge in their 10-3 win against the College of Staten Island yesterday on Staten Island, NY. “CSI just wasn’t on our level,” said freshman forward Melissa Menta, who scored two goals. “We beat them by a landslide both in fitness and ability.” Sophomore forward Ame lia Hammerl noted that setbacks early in the game did not hurt the team’s morale or focus. “Melissa’s first goal was really great. We had just gotten scored on, and the goal was something we definitely should have pre-

vented, but we got right back in there and scored immediately after,” Hammerl said. “It was great that we didn’t let it get us down and were able to keep focused on playing our game and turn things back around.” Sophomore forward Cami Crawford and junior forward Erin Ahmed also had two goals to their name in the match. “All three of them played great,” said junior forward Leslie Smith, who could not play because of an injury. “Erin had a great header goal which was pretty awesome.” Hammerl, junior forward Imani Ribadeneyra, junior
