Giants fans parade after big win By Tony Chau
By Claire Zajdel
Just a day after their 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots, the New York Giants received a warm welcome home Tuesday morning. This was the team’s second ticker-tape parade up the famed Canyon of Heroes in the last four years. Despite temperatures hovering around the low to mid-40s, nearly a million fans came out to celebrate the franchise’s fourth Super Bowl championship. Tennis balls and rolls of toilet paper were thrown from one side of the street to the other as fans waited for the team. They began filing in hours before the official 11 a.m. start time. For some, this waiting interval was the best part. “The most memorable part of the parade was the fact that all the confetti I saw from where
NYU opened the doors of its new Global Center for Academic and Spiritual Life this semester. In June 2009, the university announced its plans to build a place where students can grow spiritually, academically, psychologically and socially. Though the center was planned to start operation in summer of 2012, it opened ahead of schedule at the end of January. Located next to the Kimmel Center for University Life, it currently houses religious meeting spaces, prayer rooms, auditoriums, classrooms and lounges for student use. The university purchased the former site of the NYU Catholic Center from the Archdiocese of New York. “It is going to be a beautiful place for students of many back-

NYU men’s basketball defeated SUNY New Paltz 7361 last night and are off to their best start since the 1992-93 season. Despite having only eight players, the New Paltz Hawks played tough in the first half and earned a fourpoint lead with just under 10 minutes left. However, the Hawks did not stay ahead for long. A three-pointer from senior forward Ben Dorman and a lay-up by senior captain Andy Stein put the Violets back in the lead. “I thought it was a good challenge for our guys,” head coach Joe Nesci said. “New Paltz had a game plan
Kicking off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York on Feb. 2, photographer Adam Katz Sinding displayed an exhibit of street style photographs focusing on the upcoming trends for 2012. Scene on the Street was curated by Elle fashion editor Sydney Wasserman and was presented at the W Hotel in Times Square. It used to be that the only source of fashion inspiration came from the images of celebrities and supermodels wearing designer duds on the glossy pages of Vogue. Supermodels and celebrities, it seems, have now been replaced by popular style bloggers. Bill Cunningham of The New York Times and Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist have revolutionized the way people think about style. Street photog-

raphers like Cunningham and Schuman have taken fashion off the runways and on to the streets, capturing images of the sartorially blessed around the globe. In the past few years, street style photography and blogging have become very popular in the fashion industry, which Sinding attributes to Schuman’s blog. “People like to have a voice,” Sinding said. “It’s just like Facebook but telling a different story.” Similarly, fashion bloggers like Rumi Neely of the blog Fashion Toast or Leandra Medine of The Man Repeller have changed the way people think about fashion. Fashionistas log on daily to check out what their favorite blogger is wearing and hope to one day be stopped on the street by Schuman.
