Children Being Fearful

or stress. Crying, screaming, wetting the bed, or withdrawal from usual activities may display a child’s symptoms.

Depending on the age of the child, causes vary.

An infant, under the age of one year old has fears that are displayed through sensory impact. If you turn on a bright light in the infant’s room or make a loud noise, the child will cry when awakened. After one year’s old, a child may react to unusual events that may be frightening. Maybe mom has a new hat on that is strange looking to the child because he/she is not used to seeing something large on mom’s head. Do you remember the first time you showed your young child a Jack-In-the-Box? Some children laugh and giggle, but most repel and even scream at the surprise. By the time children turn five, they can start to pick up on an adult’s fears. That’s why it is vital for the adults remain calm and hide their own anxieties about something. If a parent is terrified of thunder and lightening, this will convey to the child. The child will watch mom pacing the house during a storm, constantly

Maybe it’s me, but lately it seems as if TV commercials are lacking creativity and over all interest for the viewer. The latest one I saw is a restaurant’s commercial showing Halloween themed meals, mostly pancakes, where the “spokes persons” are hideous looking ghoulish creatures. I thought it was too frightening for a young child to watch and then want to eat there. Many children have scary dreams and wake up saying things like: “I saw a monster under my bed.” Waking up in the middle of the night to rush to a crying child is simply a part of raising young children. How to cope with it and answer the questions needed to assure the worried child is another issue parents need to resolve. Fear and anxiety is a natural part of human feelings. For children, their fears or anxieties, even about monsters or scary creatures, are real to them and parents or caregivers should realize they are just as important as the fears or things that scare and worry us. How would you describe anxiety? This can be mild uneasiness

peeking through the blinds or commenting “I hope the lightening doesn’t hit our house”.

It is not the best thing to do in front of an impressionable young child. Simple explanations to the child about what is taking place can reassure that this will pass. Assure the child it will be over soon. Make a game out of it and create silly reasons why the noise is happening.

How many of us were told as children “the angels are bowling”? Adults that have fears about water, fire, or certain animals, should be cautious not transferring this fear to the child. Young children are typically wary about new situations. Going to the barbershop, dentist or doctor’s office can be upsetting for a preschooler. Parents can relieve this stress by doing a “rehearsal” with the child before the visit. Getting the child prepared before the visit or new experience is the best remedy to alleviate some of the anxiety.

Healthy Chicken Wraps For this one you will be substituting the high-carb wrap for low-carb, low-calorie lettuce leaves.

No need to worry about losing flavor from the lack of bread, because this recipe is packed with savory seasonings.

You’ll need: • 2-3 leaves lettuce • 3.5 oz. Chicken • 1/4 tsp Onion Powder • 1 tbsp Powdered Sugar • 3 tbsp MCT Oil • 2 tbsp Cider Vinegar • 1/4 tsp Sea Salt • 1 Clove Garlic • 1/4 tsp Pepper

As your oven is preheating to 350 degrees, you can set aside your lettuce leaves. These will be used when it’s time to serve the main meal.

After you chop up the chicken you will put it in a baking pan and combine it with the rest of the ingredients. Bake the mixture for 30-40 minutes or until the chicken is cooked all the way through. Scoop the mixture onto the lettuce leaves and enjoy.
