Finding a Kennel for Your Pet

No appointment necessary”. This was perfect and we decided to do just that. Not far from home, the location was an easy commute. We appeared unannounced about 11:30 am and were greeting warmly by the friendly young man whose family has owned the kennel for over 45 years. The office was clean, modern and welcoming with a glass door that looked into one of the kennel complexes. After chatting for twenty minutes, where we asked every question we could think of, then given a tour of the kennels. They were clean, well maintained and each dog had his own roomy pen with outside access on nice weather days. The outdoor pens kept each pet separate, but they could see each other. They also boarded cats, located in another wing of their facility.

Next we saw the very large kitchen where a gentleman was cooking pots of chicken, in commercial sized pots. This kennel supplies the

This is why it was a somewhat difficult decision who would watch them when the whole family was out of town at the same wedding. Normally it would be a family member that helped with dog sitting when we go away for a weekend or on vacation. At the time our 15 year old dog was hard of hearing and slow moving. With arthritis in his hind legs it is difficult for him to walk down stairs so we had to decline offers from friends with a second story house that offered to watch him for us. The only solution would be to investigate a kennel for him.

My husband had taken our dog for his annual checkup and asked our veterinarian if he could recommend a place, and he did. So I checked out their website and was very pleased with what I read for starters. The well-done, infor-

food and there were storage cabinets marked with every brand. Shelves overhead held canned dog food for those animals that ate canned as a supplement. The kitchen was immaculate and tidy. The nice part of about this facility is that any medicines would be given to the pet without extra charge, something I learned not all kennels do. A clean blanket is given to each dog every day, we were told. Taking in consideration our dog’s age, his extensive sleeping now and how quiet is he, the owner thought it best he be placed with the smaller dogs in a quieter atmosphere, which was perfect for him. The kennel requires each dog guest be inoculated for Bordetella for canine cough.

This experience was a positive one for us and our dog. It pays to do your research and visit before you need pet boarding. This kennel was all we had hoped and our time away was more enjoyable because we knew our pet was safe and well cared for during our absence.
