Super Bowl Healthy Snack Ideas

Whether you are hosting a super bowl party or invited to one and want to bring food along, here are ideas to do it in a healthy fashion. Most of us get excited with the anticipation of a fun afternoon with friends, watching an exciting game and snacking on treats that are signature to football viewing. Can we snack on super bowl favorites without feeling guilty about it? That does not mean giving up the ever favorites of wings and chili, but with a few “tweaks” the menu can be a bit better. We have just come off of holiday eating binges and the last thing we need now is extra calories packing on, so the American Heart Association (AHA) came up with some ideas for a snack time playbook.

It is a no brainer that veggies are great

those hunger pangs that make you reach for fatty choices. Start

your plate with those low-calorie, nutrient-rich veggies and some humus, salsa or other low-fat dip for your crunchy snack.

When it comes to the meat department, think about switching from greasy, double cheeseburgers and replace the meat component of your party with grilled turkey burgers piled high with veggies like avocado, tomato, onions and lettuce. Beverages are always a large contributor to any party and staying hydrated is important.

Reach for water instead of sugary beverages like soda or sports drinks. If water is too

fruit wedges to jazz it up a little. If you’d prefer an alcoholic drink, remember there are calories packed there, too. Drink slowly, have a cup of water between drinks if salty foods are making you thirstier. Remember, it is all about the game and supporting your favorite team.
