VILLAGE OF OSSINING WATER DEPARTMENT NOTICE HYDRANT FLUSHING SCHEDULE
The Village of Ossining Water Department will start their semiannual hydrant-flushing program on Monday morning, September 22nd, 2025 . Flushing of hydrants will be performed between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. in order to minimize disruptions to our residents.
We will initially flush hydrants in the Low Service District, which is the area west of Route 9. Once work in the Low Service District has been completed, we will begin working on the east side of Route 9 in the Lakeville and Torbank Service Districts.
The entire hydrant-flushing program will take approximately five weeks to complete. As the flushing of hydrants takes place closer to your home, you may notice some discoloration in your water first thing in the morning. Do not be alarmed. Just run your water for a short period of time and it should clear up. If the discoloration persists, please notify the Water Department at 941-6111.
The Water Department regrets any temporary inconvenience you may experience; however, this operation is necessary for us to ensure the continued cleanliness of the water distribution system. We will do everything possible to minimize any problems.

As a grandmother now, these are all lovely ideas, but just spending time with our grandchildren is better than organized celebrations. For me, the years I spent with my grandmother are still etched in my heart and evoke both a joyful feeling and a tinge of sadness knowing they are long over. But no matter how many decades since my grandmother is gone, the wonderful things we did together are still dear memories. It was a treat to spend an overnight visit at grandmother’s house. She was the one that introduced me to the wonders of listening to radio programs, which required imagination
as the storyteller wove the next chapter of the daily serial. Sometimes the radio programs featured all kinds of music with songs by a popular singer of the day as the station’s guest performer. With the radio on, grandma and I would play cards or she would teach me how to embroider a simple pattern on a piece of white fabric for practice. However, the best part of these overnight visits was the breakfast Grandma made the next morning. She had a glass frying pan that made the most delicious scrambled eggs ever! Perhaps it was the very large pat of butter melting in the pan and the heavy cream instead of a splash of milk that made her scrambled eggs out of this world. To this day I remember grandma saying to me, as she scrambled my eggs, “be sure that the eggs are nice and frothy before pouring them into the heated pan. Now when I scramble eggs, I look down at the bowl to make sure they are perfectly frothy, still following grandma’s reminder.
