GREETINGS, NY DISTRICT CIRCLE K

Anyone else a fan of Stranger Things?

A little about myself my name is Jessin Wang, and I'm a senior at Stony Brook University majoring in Civil Engineering. The built environment has always amazed me, and I'm aiming to be a part of the construction process of new projects. Aside from that, I serve as your District Editor, which means I lend assistance to editors across the NY District by extending their sphere of influence With every editorial, I look forward to sharing the amazing work that each and every club is doing Chat with you all soon!

From the executive editor

That was me, about 4 months ago during District Convention 2022. The fish or maybe it was the Kiwanians whispering into my ear were asking me to consider whether I would be happy in the role. Ultimately, the answer was yes Running for District Editor was never my intention when going to DCON, but after 4 months in this position, I've found myself meeting more and more amazing people, and happy that I have a means of exploring my creative side. And for that, I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue my journey in Circle K

Have you ever stared into the faces of bright orange koi fish, imagining the face of your favorite Kiwanians imprinted on them and imploring them for advice?

how we can collaborate more to increase the impact we can have on the world. Since the District Convention last March, the NY District Board welcomed many new members into District Board positions. We have had our annual District Officer Training Conference, which was inperson for the first time in over 3 years! We then had our Summer Board meeting to discuss important details about the district, especially how we can prepare our clubs to have the best year yet. Make sure to save the date for our first district event, District Large Scale Service Project (DLSSP) back at Kamp Kiwanis in Taberg, NY from September

I hope you are all ready to have an amazing 2022-2023 service year as we work to strengthen the entire New York District. If I have not already had the pleasure of meeting you, my name is Haleigh Gaston and I am honored to be serving as your District Governor this year. My direct responsibilities involve training and guiding the NY District Board officers in excelling at their duties, helping our Club Officers succeed, and of course recruiting more like minded members. One of the most important things is keeping close contact with our other K-Family branches, including Kiwanis, Key Club, K-Kids, Builder’s Club and Aktion Club. Through this, I focus on the District Governor Hello Circle K'ers!

A little about me, I'm a BA/MA student at the University at Albany, studying Criminal Justice and I love helping people, especially through the law.

Next Up!

What is leadership? According to the dictionary, "leadership is the accomplish ment of a goal through the direction of human assistance." However, leaders come in all shapes and sizes, and their methods will vary depending on their personal values and personality, among other things Over the course of 10 hours of leadership training and under Jessica and Abby's guidance, attendees including myself considered the type of leader they aimed to be and a few qualities that differs from person to person, including their motivation, personal values, and gritti ness, among other things. Everyone was already a leader to some degree, whether it be within their club or district board, and this training enabled us to strive to be the leaders we want to be, as well as the leader our organization needs us to be. "When I first signed up for Next Up, I wasn't sure what to expect I've been to many leadership trainings, but this was much different and better than anything I had experienced before I discovered new aspects of being a leader I had never considered before. I learned what it takes to improve my leadership skills, connect to other leaders, and overcome obstacles Overall it was a rewarding experience I would recommend to others." Amber Morgan "CKI Next Up was an enlightening program which demonstrated the qualities that an excellent leader should have. I enjoyed making new connections, and I fully believe that the people who participated will positively impact our society" Katherine Bold with the Leaders Jgendron@cleindy.com

One of the best parts of having the opportunity to host Next Up! for CKI was seeing the group of student leaders come together to learn both with and from each other The energy and desire to learn and grow that each participant brought enhanced the experience for everyone, including us! CKI is in good hands with these emerging leaders ”
