Thankyousomuchfortakingthetimetolearn moreaboutthegoodworkourstaffat NeighborWorksAlaskaengagesineachday.The experiencedteamatNeighborWorkshasputtheir expertiseintoactionthispastyearonsomany fronts! Fromrisingtothecommunityneedfor qualitysupportivehousingservicestooverseeing therehabilitationofdozensofagingaffordable housingunitsthisorganizationownsand manages,toengagingwithourneighborsin Fairview,RussianJackandSpenardonbothshortandlong-termprojects,theNeighborWorksAlaska teamwalksthetalkofbuildingcommunities.

2023wasayearofexcitingtransitions:anew executivedirector(me),anewboardchair(Deborah Bonito),arehabprojectatourMallaryApartments,an incrediblegrowthofourSupportiveHousingwork (servingandhousing700+people),andanew initiativetoReconnectFairviewwithcommunity-led solutionsalongthehighwaycorridor
Wehaveintensifiedourfocusonthefutureofour agingportfoliotoensurethatqualityaffordable housingoptionsareavailableforgenerationsto come.Asanorganizationwithover40yearsofservice inourcommunity,we’vehadtomakemanydifficult decisionstoensurethatourmissionandwork continues.Partofthatprocesshasbeentorefocus ourHomeOwnershipCenteronpromotingourHome Modification& Accessibilitygrantprogram.
Ourpropertiesareattheheartofourmission,with nearly1,000housingunitsacrossAnchorage.Our teamiscommittedtokeepingourresidentshoused assafely,happily,andaffordablyaspossible.That doesn’tcomewithoutitschallenges,includingthe nearhistoricamountofsnow,laborshortages,and increasedcosts Ourentirehousingteamcame togethereachdaytomakesureourresidentsand propertiesweresafeandsecureyear-round.

NWAKprovidesaffordable,rentalhousingfor individuals,families,andseniors.Wealso providespecialneedshousingforthosewho areat-riskofhomelessnessand/orwho experienceadisability Wefocusonserving low-to-moderateincomeindividualsand families.Weworkwithresidentstoconnect themtoappropriatecommunityresources throughourmanypartnerships.
OurRealEstateDevelopmentactivitiesfocus onincreasingthesupplyandqualityof affordablerentalunitsandexpanding opportunitiesforhomeownershipby constructingneworrehabilitatingexisting housing.Inadditiontonewprojects,weare continuouslyupgradingandimprovingthe propertiesweown.

Onourproperties,weserveresidentswitha widerangeofdemographicsand backgrounds.Overall,weservealmost300 seniorsand 350childreninourproperties.
Almosthalfofourhouseholds(48%)earn lessthan$30,000peryear.Fourproperties haveincomerestrictionsbelow60%Area MedianIncome(AMI).Thebackgroundsof ourresidentsinclude:

NWAKprovidescomprehensiveSupportiveHousing servicesto vulnerableindividualsandfamilies.Wefocusondeliveringclientcenteredsupporttosecuresafeandstablehousingopportunities, particularlyforthoseexperiencingchronicorliteralhomelessness, includingindividualswithdisabilities.
