Jacob Butler was born and raised in Napa by a family of musicians, where he began his musicaljourneyonpianoatthe age of five. Jacob started playing clarinet at the age of eight and transitioned to oboe twoyearslater.

For the last eight years, he has been a member of many school musical ensembles including Jazz Band, PepBand,PitOrchestra,andChamberChoir.

This year, Jacob is the drum major of the Napa High Marching Band, conducting and leading the band throughparades,footballgames,andconcerts.Hehas been with NVYS for the past seven years and studies oboewithhisformerdirectorRobinMay.

Thisishis4thandfinalseasonwithNVYS.Heislooking forwardtostudyingphysicsandcontinuingtoplayhis oboe in college. His favorite moments include performing at BottleRock for the first time and last season’sEuropeantour.

TheconcertoJacobhaschosenisuniqueandmodern, composedin1959byHungariancomposerFrigyes Hidas.Hechosethispiecetobringmorerecognitionto alesserknowncomposerandhopestheaudienceisas captivatedbyitasheis.HewouldliketothankNVYS forprovidinghimmultipleopportunitiestoperform, hisfamilyforalltheirsupport,andhisoboeteacher RobinMayforbeinganamazingmentor.

JacobButler,Oboe

Sophia Haggard, Violin

Sophia Haggard has been playing in the Napa Valley Youth Symphony and Sinfonia for eight years. She first started playing the violin at four years old when she found her brother's old violin in the back ofacloset.

Promptlyafterfindingthatviolin,shebeganattending lessons. Sophia has played ever since and is now playing under the instruction of her private teacher, Yasushi Ogura. Her favorite thing about playing the violin is being able to see personal improvements in her playing and having the ability to participate in largerensembles.

Sophia Haggard is currently a senior at Napa High Schoolandplanstoattendafour-yearuniversityinthe fall with an interest in physics and chemistry. Aside from violin, Sophia occupies her free time by painting, making bracelets, playing with her two dogs, and playingsoccer.

DanielTheunissen,Horn

Daniel Theunissen is the principal NVYS horn player. He has been in the program for over 5 years, playing in Sinfonia, Bridge, and Youth Symphony. Daniel originally started music ontheviolinattheageof6and pickedupthehornatage11.

WhileatNVYS,hehasperformedin3BottleRocksand a Red Gala. Last summer, he went on tour to Leipzig, Prague, and Vienna where he played with NVYS and YPSOinhistoricconcerthalls.Daniel’sfavoritememory at Youth Symphony was the karaoke sessions that happenedinthebackofthebuswhileontour.

In addition to Youth Symphony, Daniel is a part of the Napa High Performing Band where he is the horn section leader and assistant concertmaster. He has maintaineda4.7GPAthroughouthighschoolandhas earned multiple awards for academic excellence, becoming a National Merit Finalist and AP Scholar with Distinction. Daniel has played varsity tennis all 4 years. He enjoys building computers, playing board gameswithfriends,andsolvingpuzzles.

Daniel plans on studying mechanical engineering at oneofhistopchoiceschoolsinthefall,whereheaims to create better and more sustainable transportation. He intends to continue playing music with a local group.

PaulCaccamo,Piano

PaulCaccamoleadsarewarding careerasapianist,vocalcoach, chamber musician, conductor, orchestral pianist, and recording artist.

Over the course of more than thirty years as a performing musician, Paul has played on stages all over the world, as a solo and collaborative pianist, presentingrecitalswithsingersandinstrumentalistsof every kind. He has accompanied multiple Bay Area choral groups and opera companies, and currently serves as pianist for WomenSing, the Golden Gate Symphony Chorus, and the Berkeley Community ChorusandOrchestra.

Paul received a Master of Music degree in Piano

AccompanyingandChamberMusicfromtheEastman School of Music, where he studied with Jean Barr. He livesinBenicia,CAwithhiswifeandtwodaughters.
