Woman Leaders Transforming Autism and Mental Health Care
Burnett Therapeutic Services (BTS), located in the heart of Napa, specializes in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and offers a wide range of services, including autism/
unwavering dedication, Burnett Therapeutic Services continues to set new standards in holistic, impactful therapeutic care, providing hope and healing to those in need.
Dr. Mitze Burnett, Founder and CEO, brings extensive experience and dedication to the mental and behavioral health field. Her academic journey began at Pacific Union College, where she earned a Bachelor of Social Work. She pursued further studies, achieving a Master of Arts and Doctorate in Psychology with Summa Cum Laude honors. She is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist as well as a Doctoral Level Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D). These achievements laid the foundation for her career focused on supporting families affected by autism and developmental disabilities. With a background directing a national human services agency and founding her own mental health company, Dr. Burnett has been instrumental in BTS’s growth as a leading provider of Autism/ ABA therapy. Founding BTS, Dr. Burnett envisioned a compassionate
community centered on changing lives through Autism/ABA and Mental Health Therapy, guided by empathy and expertise. Leading for over nine years, she and her team aim to provide services and be community partners, ensuring timely access to essential mental health care.
Dr. Burnett’s leadership is supported by longtime colleagues Amy Montanez and Melissa Holbrook, who have been integral to BTS’s growth since its inception. “I am incredibly grateful to have Amy and Melissa by my side,” Dr. Burnett shares. “They continuously find ways to improve our services and inspire me to be the best leader and clinician possible.” Together with their team, they foster BTS as an outstanding workplace and leader in therapeutic services.
Dr. Burnett and her husband Clay, also a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, share two children, Myles (age 7) and Macy (age 5). She cherishes spending quality time with her family. Her journey is marked by inspiration and commitment, as she has transformed BTS into a cornerstone of mental and behavioral health support. Under her leadership, BTS continues to deliver exceptional care, positively impacting the communities it serves.
Amy Montanez, Director of Clinical Operations, began working in the behavioral and mental health field in 2007, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Her passion for serving people with disabilities and mental health challenges grew as she continued to provide caring support. Amy pursued her academic journey at Bethany University, achieving a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology.
Her journey at BTS began in 2016 as a Mental Health Therapist where she provided individual and family therapy. In 2018, she obtained her licensure as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and quickly advanced to Clinical Director, leading evidenced-based behavior programs for individuals with autism and other disabilities and providing training and consultation to behavior specialists. As Director of Clinical Operations, Amy oversees the growth and operations of both the mental health and ABA programs, hires and trains clinicians, continuously enhances services, and ensures BTS remains a leader in therapeutic care. “I love being a part of the progress made by the children we serve, especially when it makes a meaningful impact on their lives and families. Supporting our children to interact, function, and thrive in the world around us is what I love about the ‘work’ that we do,” she says. Amy enjoys exploring, traveling, and dining with her husband and two children.
Melissa Holbrook, Director of Client Services, started her career over 20 years ago, working with children in foster care and group homes. Her love for helping others expanded to working with children and adults with disabilities about 13 years ago, and she has stayed in this field ever since. Melissa enjoys cheering on her two sons on the soccer field, supporting their passions of flying airplanes and restoring classic cars, traveling with her husband Robert and family, and spending time with friends.
She started her career at California State University, Sacramento, earning a Bachelor’s and a Master’s in Social Work. Melissa joined BTS in 2020 and quickly became involved with the daily operations on many different administrative and clinical levels. Now serving
as the Director of Client Services, she oversees administrative staff, manages case assignments for Clinical Supervisors and Board Certified Behavior Analysts, and supports the scheduling team to ensure efficient and effective service delivery. “I hope to support our kiddos, families, and individuals so they can live their best lives. I want our clients to feel heard, supported, and respected. At BTS, we have created an environment focused on a positive staff culture where our staff feel heard, supported, and respected as well!” says Melissa.
Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Mitze Burnett, Amy Montanez, and Melissa Holbrook, Burnett Therapeutic Services has evolved into a trusted pillar of hope and support for countless individuals. These determined women have transformed BTS into a cornerstone of support for individuals seeking mental and autism/behavioral health services.
BTS encourages the public to reach out if they suspect their child might be delayed or on the spectrum. Early intervention provides the best outcomes, and it is essential to act promptly. Navigating these challenges can be difficult for parents and families, but BTS is here to provide the support and help needed to overcome these obstacles.
As BTS continues to expand its reach within the community they serve, BTS is always looking for positive, passionate professionals who share their mission of helping individuals in need of mental and behavioral support. If interested, please visit www.btsinc.services/careers.

she met while she was the GM at guest. “We actually met when he was trying to cancel a reservation,” she said smiling. “I was called into that Napa has multi-generational John Anthony and Adam Housley, moved back and are raising their shot at maintaining its community
flight attendant for Air Rhodesia, and returned to London a year later. While there, she met an American, who she later married in Miami. She worked for Playboy Hotels and the Diplomat, a 1200 room resort, and was hooked on hospitality. Five years later, her husband was transferred to New Jersey, and she went to work for Hilton Hotels and later the Four Seasons in Philadelphia.
there, but her mother felt she was too young to be on her own. She returned to Zimbabwe, become a
She was now single with a young son, and moved back to England. The day after she arrived, her father passed away. “That was a bad time for white farmers in Zimbabwe, and I knew I could not leave my Mum out there on her own.” She returned to Philadelphia, picked up her car, and drove across country to California with her three-year-old son. There she went to work for the Santa Maria Airport Hilton, a fly-in hotel. At the time, NASA intended to move the space program to Vandenberg AFB, which would have been a major boom for businesses in Santa Maria. However, six weeks after she arrived, the Challenger space shuttle exploded in mid-air, and the space program was upended. The hotel soon went into receivership.
“Bank of America took over operations, which was a silver lining for me. Their asset manager became a great friend, who recommended me to the owners of Auberge du Soleil. I was there for 16 years, the last five as General Manager. I raised my son and buried my mother in St. Helena.”
She moved to Healdsburg for two years, opening the Les Mars Hotel. Returning to Napa Valley, she helped friends with a restaurant in St. Helena and a few other local businesses. She might still be there except for that call from Travis.
When she actually does retire, she’ll have to decide where to spend her time. Her son, his family and other relatives are living in the UK, which has appeal. However, you can bet that Napa will have a strong tug on her heart. “I can remain active and relevant here. There has been so much change and it’s vibrant, yet it’s still beautiful, country living.” Fortunately, she has time to think about it.
Andrew Healy
Andrew fanned out about a dozen business cards and offered them as though performing a card trick. “This is my work history. Pick one and we’ll start talking from it,” he said. As luck would have it, the chosen card was for Irish Whiskey LAD, the Irish Whiskey Education concept he began to develop during COVID, and to which he now devotes most of his time.
Andrew is from a long line of entrepreneurs. “I’m literally hardwired to own my own business.” During Beatle-mania, his maternal grandfather made and sold Beatle Boots all over Europe, making a fortune. Andrew’s father opened one of the first delicatessens in Ireland in the mid 80s, which was a huge success. “It opened my eyes to food retailing.”
Andrew studied catering and hospitality management in college. Having visited the famed Food Halls in Harrod’s London, Andrew told his classmates that one day he would work there. They laughed, but two years later Andrew packed his bags for London and the famed
Knightsbridge store. “To me, it was the pinnacle of food retail. I was 21 years of age, had stars in my eyes, and thought I knew everything.”
That he immigrated to the US surprised no one. “The joke growing up in Ireland was that our children were our greatest exports, and it was almost expected that you would leave. Of 31 students in my class, 24 left the country.”
Andrew came here in 1994, working a harvest at Firestone, followed by one in New Zealand. He returned to Ireland in ’96, briefly moved to London, then resettled in Dublin in 2001 to help run the family business. “It was great until 2008, when the worldwide economic disaster happened. I figured that was as good a time as any to sell up in Ireland and move to the States. I knew two people in Sonoma and five in Napa, so Napa it was.”
Napa Valley and beyond. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that I have an Irish accent.”
He now thinks of Ireland as the place he is from. “I love my life in Napa and feel privileged to be here.” He is a founding member of the Napa Valley Cricket Club, loves food, wine, whiskey and the outdoors. “I’ve lived in five different countries and I can’t think of any place I’d rather be.”
Ross Anderson
Ross Anderson still remembers his first visit to Napa Valley in 1986. He’d grown up in Glasgow, Scotland with his mother’s family, but the opportunity to build his relationship with his father who lived in Napa, plus the beautiful summer weather here, convinced him to move and make this home. He did so a few

Ross found a comfortable bar at the old Tom Foolery’s on the Napa River. Several new friends there recommended he look into working at Silverado Country Club. He did, got a job and stayed for seven and a half years. “I’ve got fantastic memories of being there. It was like the Napa Valley farm system –everybody went through Silverado.” I can’t say enough about the training and mentorship there.” He made
He stayed in hotels for over twenty years. Besides gaining a lot of solid business skills, he gained a wife –he and Kim met in ’97, while both were at the Hilton in Rohnert Park. They dated for several years and married in 2004. “We celebrated our twentieth anniversary in June.”
Ross spent time at Meadowood Napa Valley, but was becoming increasingly interested in wine. In 2010, he went to work in Hospitality and Sales for Cardinale, part of the Jackson Family Wines organization.
Silverado, he has benefited from excellent mentors and has made a career with the company ever since.
In 2013, he was in the company helicopter with guests of Cardinale when he got the word that his daughter had been born, seven weeks earlier than expected. Despite early concerns, newborn Heather and Kim were – and are – fine. “It was the best vintage Napa has had.”
Over the years, the relationship between Ross and dad only grew stronger. “I learned a lot from him, like to always have a purpose for each day. I also learned why I do some of the things I do, and act the way I act and where my love of motorcycles came from.” His dad lived a full life to the very end, but sadly passed in May of this year.
Ross became a US citizen in 2014. “I’m lucky enough to be an American by choice.” He loves his family, the wine industry and living here in Napa. “I suspect this will be home for a long time to come.”
HOP CREEK PUB
A NORTH NAPA FAVORITE
By Linda Bausch
On a recent trip home, a visit to one of my favorite North Napa restaurants––Hop Creek Pub––was on my short, go-to list. Every time we open the door, a host has been stationed to greet us with a hearty welcome. Arriving a bit after the lunch hour, we found the indoor seating still bustling. The cool and quiet courtyard offered a splendid respite under the lush green overhang. A leisurely Saturday afternoon on the patio was just what we needed to settle in and relax after a hectic day of travel. The weather couldn’t have been nicer, it was a few days before the first heat
No sooner than our host led us outside, our server for the afternoon, Diego, followed with menus and initiated our meal with beverages to start. Service at Hop Creek has been consistently efficient and quick, no matter what. This day was no different, as the host pitched in to assist with our drink order. The coffee was freshly made, and the soft drinks were refilled throughout our meal. The fresh, on-tap and bottled craft beers were abundant in selection. Being a fan of an orange-infused brew, I did enjoy a cold, tall glass of Cali-Squeeze Blood Orange Hefeweizen from San Luis Obispo. One of our guests ordered a Humboldt County staple, Lost Coast Brewery’s Tangerine Beer. (Seeing the iconic artwork on the can by Duane Flatmo, brought back fond memories of our life on the North Coast before Napa became HOME.)
Craft-made Hard Seltzers, a variety of bottled beers and a list of locally made wines––sold by the glass and bottle––bubbles, and a full bar rounded out the options. Non-
alcoholic beverages and fountain sodas, teas and San Pelligrino are also available.
We were happy not to feel rushed as we perused the menu selections. We chose to whet our appetites with a starter of Whole Jumbo Chicken Wings, $14.50 and Pickle Fries, $10. We have ordered fried pickles all across the country. Fried pickles come in so many variations that it continues to be a mystery to me... what shape will they be when brought to the table? We’ve had them served as big, quartered wedges, long slabs, or sliced in circles... thick & thin cut. Hop Creek Pub wins the contest if there was one. The shape of this pickle offering resembles that of thin french fries, slender cut and battered, making for a tender bite. The crunchy, corn masa coating stayed put without crumbling, as often happens with the other fried pickles we’ve ordered elsewhere. A cooling, cucumber ranch was served on the side.
The “Opening Acts” ($9-$17.50) list includes something for everyone. Mozzarella Cheese Flatbreads, (meat and vegetarian options available), Shiitake Hits the Fan is my favorite; Hummus is served with Vegetables and Crisp Flatbread Strips; Panko Breaded Artichoke Hearts come with a Garlic Lemon Aioli; Crunchy Brussels Sprouts, salt and lemon seasoned, includes a Garlic Lemon Aioli; Pretzel Bites with Honey Mustard; Tempura Shrimp are lightly battered and served with a Sweet Spicy Sauce; Crispy Calamari with a Spicy Garlic Aioli, Garlic Pub Fries (these are one of the most popular items!), and an Ahi Poke served with Wonton Chips, Pickled Ginger and Wasabi. Is your mouth watering?
Descriptions of the Salads, Burgers, and Main Events got our appetites going. On this day, two guests ordered the Western BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, $17.50. The meat is Hop Creek Pub proprietary, ground daily of Angus chuck and Wagyu blend. These hearty burgers came to the table stacked high, juicy, and full of flavor with the house BBQ Sauce, Crispy Fried Onions, Lettuce, and Tomato. The toasted bun added desired texture and held the burger and trimmings together without falling apart.
Other selections on the “Pub Burgers” menu include Patty Melt, $16, which is a deluxe, grilled sandwich with Cheddar and Swiss Cheeses, Caramelized Onions and 1,000 Island spread on Sourdough Bread; a blackened, Cajun Seasoned Burger with Bleu Cheese, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Red Onion and Mayonnaise; California Turkey Burger, $16.50. For diners looking for a little kick... the Spicy Jalapeño Burger $17, won’t disappoint. It includes Ghost Peppers, Pepper Jack Cheese, Red Onion, Lettuce, Tomato, and Jalapeño Aioli. Side options include Fries, Seasonal Vegetables, Fruit, Sweet Potato or their Garlic Mashers, an all-time favorite. The kitchen is geared toward the guest and substitutions are available for a minimal upcharge.
The “Fresh Greens” section tempts with a variety of salads, soups, add-ons, and the ever-popular Basket of Cheesy Garlic Bread, $6; Imperial Caesar Salad, $9; Hop Creek Cobb Salad, $17.50; Wedge Crisp, $10, Shrimp Louis, $17.50; Simply Salmon Salad, $18; Buffalo Chicken Salad, $15.50; Sesame Ginger Salad, $16.50; Mixed Green Salad or Mini-Wedge Crisp, $5; Soup of the Day, $6.
We also ordered the Signature, Ale-Battered Cod, accompanied with Spicy Aioli which was as described,
delicious. The large pieces of lightly-battered fish were superbly crisp while the inside remained moist, tender, and flaky. The deep-fried fish and side of Garlic Mashers was generous and filled a hungry tummy, with some left over for later. Two pieces, $15; three pieces, $18, definitely a nice value for the serving size. The last choice made by our guests was the Chicken Pesto Sandwich on a Ciabatta Roll, $16, which comes with Provolone Cheese, Sun-dried Tomatoes, Pesto Aioli, Onion, and Green Leaf Lettuce.
Other favorites on the “Main Events” menu we have sampled over the years––French Beef Dip $18.50; BLTB, a play on more is better! Bacon-Lettuce-Tomato-and more Bacon, served on a toasted sourdough, $16; Grilled Fish Tacos, $17; Salmon Club, $18.50; Pulled Pork, $15.50; Classic Reuben, $16.50; Portobello Veggie Sandwich, $14.50; Granny’s Homestyle Mac ‘n Cheese (we have declared this Mac ‘n Cheese the BEST we have had in any restaurant) $10.50, additional bacon bits, $1.50; Grilled Atlantic Salmon, $20, this item is served with Grilled Pineapple, Veggies and a choice of side, it has been on our order on other visits and always satisfies. Dessert options
this day––Fudge Brownie Sundae, $9; Housemade Cheesecake, $9.50.
Diego was excellent in his service, quick, and happy to accommodate our group’s every request. He made my first stop at home memorable, and as I mentioned at the beginning, just what I needed after a long day of travel.
In the nearly fifteen years since the popular restaurant opened in the Brown’s Valley Center, business associates, family, and friends have enjoyed many good times––sampling their way through the menu, tasting a brew or two, as well. Hop Creek Pub’s convenient and cool, sunken back room is often utilized as a gathering place for local business meetings or more intimate family celebrations. Children are welcome, the Kid’s Menu has a very reasonable price point that won’t break the bank––ALL ITEMS $7.50, beverage $1.25. Don’t forget to ask for the Kid’s Activity page and a few crayons when you are greeted, always at the Host Station.

E & M PRESENTS
field trip with their young kids need look no further than the Napa Valley College Performing Arts Center.
On Saturday, October 5, E & M Presents brings two live performances of “Somebody Loves You Mr. Hatch,” a puppet, text and music-filled play based on Irene Spinelli’s award-winning children’s book of the same name. The play is adapted for stage and performed by Axis Theatre based in Vancouver, BC.
Shows take place at 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm with the opportunity to meet Mr. Hatch after each show. A Spanish translation of the text will be available on site for no charge.
Kids ages 3 – 11 are free with adult tickets at $15 each. For more information, visit: EandMPresents.com, email evywar@gmail.com or call 707-501-8567.
“Somebody Loves You Mr. Hatch” is set in a friendly, quaint town in the 1940s. Mr. Hatch (portrayed as a puppet), is a tall, thin, lonely man who works a simple but important job -- attaching aglets to shoelaces at a factory. He leads a predictable and dreary life, often spending time alone. He lacks the confidence or desire to make or keep friends.
changes. On Valentine’s Day,Mr. Hatch receives a heart-shaped package with a pink bow containing an anonymous message that reads, “Somebody loves you.” The small world of Mr. Hatch is turned upside down.
With the help of washerwomen Betsy, Edna and Molly (actors and puppeteers), he begins to make friends, enjoy all kinds of delicious food and experience the fun parts of life that he once ignored. Mr. Hatch ultimately goes on a search to find his secret admirer and discovers that he is loved after all!
Axis Theatre was founded in 1976 by a collective of professionally-trained mime artists. Its plays blend clowning, Comedia del arte, live music, movement and puppetry into original works. Each script is crafted to cater to specific age groups, ranging from preschool to high school, enabling the company to engage broad and inherently diverse audiences in a single location.
Axis Theatre performances are designed to entertain and foster artistic expression, encourage positive communication and inspire active participation among attendees. Productions embody principles

of equity, inclusion, and relevant social themes, reflecting a commitment to a more inclusive and empathetic society.
Chris McGregor, a 30-year veteran of Axis Theatre and director of “Mr. Hatch,” loves the messages of community, friendship, change and love that are inherent in the story.
“The world needs to hear these messages, and the more we share these, I feel the better our world will be,” he said.
Evy Warshawski, Co-Director of E & M Presents, has been working for many years on finding work appropriate for younger children and introducing them to the joys of live theater in a professional setting. The artistry of Axis Theatre, a company committed to shows for young audiences, has 65 original productions under their belts and presents finelytuned, collaborative work that all ages will appreciate.
