WHAT HAPPENED ON CAMPUS?

April19:CulminationofExaminationsandAnnualGeneralMeeting Astheacademicsemesterdrewtoaclose,April19markedthelastdayof final examinations, signalling the end of a chapter for students embarking on new academic endeavours. Following this milestone, the Student Society convened for its Annual General Meeting, providing a platformforstudents,faculty,andstafftoengageinmeaningfuldialogue and reflect on the past year's achievements and challenges. The day culminatedinajoyousyear-endcelebration,wheretheNVITcommunity came together to revel in each other's company. Merritt Campus saw a cozy gathering, while the Vancouver campus was abuzz with sports gamesandexcitingprizes.

April20-27:ENRTClassExpeditiontoHaidaGwaii

Amidst the academic hustle, a group of adventurous souls from the Environmental Resources Technology (ENRT) class embarked on an unforgettable journey to Haida Gwaii Immersed in the archipelago's breathtaking beauty, students explored natural resources, visited selectiveloggingsites,andindulgedintheculinarydelightsoffire-cooked meals by Chef Tom Guided by TAAN Forest company, they gained firsthand insights into logging practices in the region. They are also complementedbyexperiencessuchasfishingandnavigatingthepristine waters surrounding Haida Gwaii. Special commendations to Clif Garcia, our Events Planner, whose dedication ensured the success of the expedition,includingvolunteeringtodrivetheNVITBus.

As April bids adieu, the echoes of these enriching experiences linger, serving as reminders of the diversity, resilience, and community spirit that define NVIT. With each event and endeavour, the institution reaffirms its commitment to nurturing holistic education, fostering cultural connections, and empowering students to chart their paths toward a brighter future. As we eagerly anticipate the adventures that May holds, let us carry forward the lessons learned and the memories made,unitedinoursharedjourneyofgrowthanddiscovery.

MEET OUR TEAM

I have been with NVIT is Recruitment, Admissions and Registration Officer for 4 years. In this role, I correspond with students submitting applications & documentation to ensure that requirements for programs are met. I also travel throughout BC talking with High School students and providing information on programs offered through NVIT

I sit on the Board of Governors, the ARM, Health and Wellness Committee, EDCO Committee and the Union as Chief Steward In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and being President of the Merritt Stock Car Association, as well as Vice President of the Clearwater Stock Car Association and organizer of the MIDS (BC/ALB) racing series I am an avid racer and have spent 46 years involved in the sport as an Executive member and racer/mentor to young people wanting to get involved in dirt track racing.

I'm Tori Hunter, from the St’uxwtéws Nation Currently, I serve as the Recruitment, Admissions, and Registration Officer at NVIT's Vancouver Campus. My academic journey includes a Bachelor's degree in Arts with a focus on Indigenous Studies In this role, I aspire to leverage my educational background and expertise to facilitate NVIT's growth and extend educational opportunities to more Indigenous community members seeking higher education Outside of work, I cherish spending evenings and weekends outdoors with my son and dogs. My name is Daryl-Lynn MacNeal, Student Officer at NVIT I hold a Bachelor of Arts d University of Victoria. I was born and raise Saskatchewan, but BC has been my home for the past 32 years with Merritt accounting for 16 of those years. I am new to NVIT, having started in January 2024, and I’m excited to be part of the NVIT community. My role is to help high school students transition into the postsecondary world by providing them with information and support from application through registration and many other aspects in between. The best part of my job, so far, is witnessing the pride a student exudes when they know they have a path after high school In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, playing word games, trying to maintain a fitness routine, and playing guitar (trying to fulfill my fantasy of becoming a rockstar wh I !)”

Hello, my name is Cam. I am the Information Services & Support Officer, the first point of contact for students and guests at the Merritt campus I am the main switchboard operator for incoming inquires for both campuses, I also monitor Merritt campus incoming and outgoing mail as well as the info email. I try to troubleshoot and navigate assistance for students with minor technical issues and provide other various support where needed. With the stability NVIT has provided me I am now able to focus more on living a healthy and happy lifestyle I have been at NVIT for a year and a half and enjoy being here. 2019/20 I took the Office Administration Certificate and from there I realized what an amazing school NVIT is! Then I got the wonderful opportunity to work here

Hi there, it's Becky Rodgers! Having dedicated m supporting the future of my hometown community, I ve transitioned from my role as an Education Assistant with School District #58 to embark on an exciting new journey in Recruitment and Admissions at NVIT Outside of work, you'll often catch me walking, traveling, or indulging in activities like golf, baseball, or volleyball I also relish spending quality time with friends and family by the lake.
