InMerritt,alongsidetheMMIWMarch,EldersGoodyDayaddedajoyful and celebratory atmosphere to the day's events. Merritt Elders came together to provide a delicious lunch, complete with raffle prizes and goodies for winners. Laughter echoed through the gathering as community members shared stories and enjoyed each other's company, highlightingtheimportanceofcommunityconnectionandcelebrationof leadership.
Throughoutthemonth,ourcampuscontinuedtoofferadiverserangeof workshops designed to enrich the student experience. From traditional beading and drum-making to the art of ribbon skirt making, these workshops provided students with opportunities to connect with Indigenouscultureandheritage.Byengaginginthesehands-onactivities, students not only honed their skills but also deepened their understanding of Indigenous traditions, fostering a sense of pride and connectionwithinthecommunity.

ebruary 28 marked Pink Shirt Day, a powerful campaign aimed at raising warenessaboutbullyingandpromotingkindnessandinclusion.Onthisday,staff membersacrossourcampuscametogether,donningpinkshirtsasasymboloftheir commitmenttocreatingasafeandsupportiveenvironmentforall.Byparticipating in this campaign, our community reaffirmed its dedication to standing against bullying and championing the importance of empathy and compassion in our interactionswithoneanother.
As the month drew to a close, we celebratedLeapDay anextradayonthe calendar that served as a reminder to extend kindness, empower others, and furtherpromotetruthandreconciliation. This additional day provided an opportunity for reflection and action, inspiring us to redouble our efforts in fostering positive change within our communityandbeyond.
In conclusion, February was a month of significance and action on our campus, characterized by a commitment to advocacy, empowerment, and kindness. Through our participation in marches, workshops, awareness campaigns,andactsofkindness,wedemonstratedourdedicationtocreating amoreinclusiveandsupportiveenvironmentforall.Aswelookahead,letus carry the spirit of February forward, continuing to advocate for justice, empowerothers,andspreadkindnessinallthatwedo.
