My name is Nurielle. Over the years, I have contributed to residential projects and have focused my education on the socio-economics, sustainability and social qualities of the built environment. As I continue to find my footing in architecture, I hope to embark on new challenges and projects beyond my experiences, immerse myself with mentors and questions to grow and learn from.

Exchange Village is a co-housing project for individuals and their families experiencing the long term effects of Covid. The project explores affrodablity by optimizing the different ways of utilizing wood-framing, resulting in multiple structures throughout the site. An inner street, ‘courtyards’/ backyards, communal kitchen and other social spaces ties in the notion of a village, where stories, play, skills, food are shared amongst neighbours and the community.

To reach a Net Zero Energy building design, the project focuses on the development of the double stud wall. This wall assembly allows for the typical wood frame structure to reach a higher R-value of insulation and decrease in thermal bridging in low-rise, smaller scale buildings.
Though, the project is situated in a cold climate where the additional insulation could cause a great amount of condensation which requires a continious air barrier and an interior vapour barrier.
The wall assembly also includes a service vacity for electrical and plumbing. This also adds space for additional but optional cavity fill insulations. But most importantly, the service cavity reduces the damage of the air barier by electrical wires and plumbing.

As part of a community integration, the adjacent park had been re-imagined to enhance social spaces and connection to the Exchange Village.
plaza is a mix of a
and scale community
an open space created by a change in surface of soft and hard surfaces + boundaries. It is a place where the rest of the community could exchange in resources and interact. The plan is similar to The Exchange Village where “voids” are flexible in use. The use of plaza is always changing as areas act as teritories of behaviour; a hard surface for a community barbeque.
Trades School for Refugees rebuilt, re-use project technology, woods, culinary
As a response to the influx of refugees, the township of Sutera begun to let refugees into their homes. However, with the effects of De-growth, the town is experiencing physical deterioration and a decrease of jobs, unable to sustain the livelihood of refugees. The ReBuild School concurrently rebuilds the damaged buildings, whilst providing spaces for refugees to share, excel their skills. The school allows for a partnership with the locals, exchanging in culture, traditions and building trust.

Urban Planning
housing, entertainment, community
Temperlholfer Feld was the biggest running airport in Berlin and was used primarly during and post World War 2. It closed down in 2008 to which the site became an over-scaled field (the size of Monaco country). Overtime, visitors claimed disorganized areas for a variety of activties. The urban plan proposal explores the new form of an urban field and residencies; resulting in a new dialogue between architecture, the landscape and human interactions..
The Temepelhofer Feld Urban Plan follows a systematic, conceptual form that is unique to the site; new forms of architecture and a parkscape strategy.
A conceptual layering of important components and spaces to organize the size to a feasible scale.
A grid if layered over the Perimeter offset to create building forms and circulation. The perimeter offsets develops the Parkscape strategy; the core.

Site Map [Above]: This explores already existing urban patterns and froms surrounding and within the site.
FORM ITERATIONS: Organic forms that fails to create an urban system. Rather, it follows a free flowing organic form inpsired by the current area usage of the field.
Layering:
The Tempelhofer Feld Urban Plan is developed by creating a urban strategy that is unique to the site but also draws inspiration from observed patterns of its surrounding neighbourhoods.
The urban strategy is obtained by laying grids and offets of the site’s perimeter countour. These layers define the built form, circulation and the field.
Runways:
Tempelholf Airport, Runways and Tempelholfer Feld Perimeter form offsets.
The Runways is kept to its original form to allow the site relate itself back to history, to which concurrently provides new urban experience that is unique to Tempelholfer Feld.
A grid if layered over the Perimeter offset to create building forms and circulation. The perimeter offsets develops the Parkscape strategy; the core.
Large scale mixed-use residential block
210 residential units
single families, working class individuals
The THF Runway Housing project is located beside the runway and in font of the field. This allows for a new urban condition to which is unique to the Tempelholfer urban plan. The project is responding to the housing crisis in Berlin and the rising diversity seen by families migrating to the city. Hence, the project explores a variation of floor types to which caters to different ways of living for single and larger families.
These units are responding to the minor street where its facade is not getting any sun nor overlloking major views. Thus, these narrow units have its living spaces towards the courtyard, taking advantage of the conditions. A narrow balcony on the oposite site for a more private space.
These units are the most grandeur units throughout the project as it is overlooking the Tmepelholfer field. Such units have lofts with either 1 or 2 bedrooms.
These units are out balconies. medium-small
These units particularly on the third floor takes advantage of the runway views. It also follows the duplex style housing with a “lawn” space towards the courtyard.
The units facing the runway is met with different units for every second floor; this is shown in the section.

fishing huts
commercial use
The Lake of the Woods Brewing Company is located in Kenora, Ontario. The company supports the growth of non-commercial ice-fishing activties on the Lake of the Woods. The huts intend to be used by the company to create a closer relationship with the recreation and its users. The company is also expanding to the American side of the lake; hence, the need for two huts that speak to each other; a form of kinship that celebrates the expansion of the company and its new relations.
Due to the small scale of the huts, transformative furniture was required. Hence, benches were built to transform into beds and storage.
triangular canvas pieces were also made as a wind shield and sun protection.

Warming Huts ED3 Studio Project
collaboration with artist Eleanor Bond art installation
A Warming Huts project in collaboration with International Winnipeg Artist, Eleanor Bond and the University of Manitoba’s third year Architecture students. The plastic cloud is located inside The Fork’s Market, where consumers are invited to interact with the installation; to “stick their heads into the cloud”. The installation aims to provoke a sense of agency towards climate change through its materiality, form and scale.
The skeletal structure of the “cloud” uses formed rebar, manipulated through bending to create circular curvitures. Bundles of wire mesh were enveloped around the structure to act as the structural layer of the “skin”; allowing plastic to be woven through and around it.

After three months, the installation was disassembled. All plastic bags were given to Waste Connections Canada through the Simply Recycle program. The rebar skeletal structure system was disconnected and will be used as research materials at the Centre for Architectural Structures and Technologies.
