PERSONAL STATEMENT
I was born into a middle-class family in India influenced by my mother who experienced an education system in Pre-Independent India. The factors shaping my early years are:
• My Mother’s role in shaping my early years: My mother grew in Pre-Independent India under the British Colonial Rule where the struggle for independence from British infused education with a sense of purpose and patriotism. Many students and educators actively participated in the nationalist movement, using education as a tool for social and political reform. My mother was singularly dedicated to instilling values which emphasized education.
• Legacy of Dedication: The dedication to education during pre-independent India laid the foundation for the country’s future educational reforms and progress. It emphasized the importance of Universal Education as a Fundamental Right and Inspired generations to come to continue the quest for knowledge and social justice. This continued to Post Independent India and the culture continued to recognize the importance of scientific and technological advancement. As part of this culture, I was shaped to pursue scientific education.

• Cultural Values in Education; While embracing modern education, Indian culture continued to emphasize traditional values as respect and dedication for the pursuit of knowledge for the betterment of society. Educational Institutes played a crucial role in preserving and promoting cultural heritage through the inclusion of arts, sciences and humanities in the curriculum.
My Early Years of Education

• As a young child I was sent to school with significant historical connection to British education, although they have evolved over time to become quintessentially Indian Institutions. Such schools were founded as an Order of the Roman Catholic Church back to the 19ᵗʰ Century in Ireland. These schools were often established to provide education primarily to British and Anglo-Indian children although they also admitted students from other countries. The curriculum and education ethos of these schools were influenced by British education principles and values. However, over the years, these have adapted to the changing educational landscape and have embraced Indian culture and values while still remaining high academic standards. They continue to provide quality education to students from diverse backgrounds irrespective of their nationality or religious affiliation.
• Subsequently, I found myself as a young admittee in King George Medical College where I obtained my MBBS.
MY MBBS DEGREE: KING GEORGES’ MEDICAL COLLEGE
• King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow, India has its roots that trace back to the British colonial period and was established in 1911 during the British rule in India and was initially named King George’s Medical College. The College was founded to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to India. The College was modelled after the British medical schools and followed the British system of medical education. It aimed to provide high-quality medical education and training to Indian students, following the standards set by British Medical Institutions of the time. While the colonial legacy is evident in its founding and early years, King George’s Medical College has evolved into a prominent Indian Institution with its own distinct identity. It has adapted to the changing needs of Indian society and healthcare system while continuing to uphold high standards of medical education and research. In 2002, it was granted University Status and renamed King George’s Medical University, reflecting its expanded scope and academic pursuits. KGMU is one of the Top 15 Medical institutes as ranked by National Institutional Ranking Framework [“NIRF”] under the Ministry of Education, India. MY TRAINING AT OKLAHOMA HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER, OKLAHOMA AND UT SOUTHWESTERN MEDICAL CENTER [UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT SOUTHWESTERN].
• I completed my residency and fellowship training at Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center or “OUHSC” is one of the top institutions for medical residency programs in the United States. As one of the only few comprehensive health centers in the Nation, OU’s Health Sciences Center is considered one of the best in the country.
• At UT Southwestern I completed my fellowship in Advanced Clinical Anesthesia with a focus on Neuro-Anesthesia, Pain, Obstetric and Pediatric Anesthesia. I was also a Clinical Instructor and Faculty at UT Southwestern where I was responsible for Education and Training of Resident Physicians in a highly technical and competitive field of Medicine. UT Southwestern has been named one of the 20 best hospitals in the Nation by the US News and World Report. I was trained by the Icons in the industry [see my profile summary].
