Tranterin ensiohjaus Suomessa
Neville Tranter tunnetaan voimakkaista ja provokatiivisista aikuisten nukketeatteriesityksistään, kuten Salome, Re:Frankenstein ja Shicklgruber alias Adolf Hitler. Australialaissyntyisen, mutta vuosia Hollannissa asuneen Tranterin teatteri Stuffed Puppet Theater on kansainvälisten nukketeatterifestivaalien vakiovieras, ja teatterin uudet esitykset herättävät aina suurta mielenkiintoa. Satu Paavola näki Tranterin esityksen Salome Tampereen Teatterikesässä vuonna 1999, ja oli saman tien myyty. Frankenstein-esityksen vieraillessa Suomessa hieman myöhemmin Paavola otti yhteyttä Tranteriin, ja meni myöhemmin myös hänen kurssilleen. - Tapasin hänet vielä myöhemmin Charleville-Mezierissä ja kysyin, olisiko hän kiinnostunut joskus ohjaamaan Suomessa. Siitä se lähti liikkeelle. Kun rahoitus sekä tuotannollinen yhteistyö Nukketeatterikeskus Poijun, Linnateatterin ja Aleksanterin teatterin kesken saatiin kuntoon, ollaan nyt siinä pisteessä, että Neville Tranter vihdoin saapuu ohjaamaan ensimmäistä kertaa Suomeen. - On kyllä todella jännittävää, toteaa Paavola. Tekijät uskovat, että Neville Tranterilla on paljon annettavaa juuri esityksessä, jossa näyttelijä joutuu jatkuvasti vaihtamaan hahmoa omasta itsestään nukkeen ja päinvastoin. Nuket esitykseen tekee idean äiti itse. Satu Paavola luonnehtii niitä ”isoiksi käsinukeiksi” aukeavine suineen. 3D:n ensi-ilta on 22. syyskuuta Turun Linnateatterissa, minkä jälkeen se siirtyy Aleksanterin Teatteriin Helsinkiin. Toiveena tekijöillä on, että esitys jatkaisi kiertue-esityksenä sen jälkeenkin. - Se on aina niin sääli, että tehdään hirveän iso duuni, rykäistään esitys 10-20 kertaa ja sitten se on siinä, sanoo Satu Paavola, joka on jälleen pakannut kiertuekassiinsa vanhan rouva Betsyn. Betty ’Sis’ O’Valley’llä on kesällä edessä keikka mm. Berliinissä. Keikkailu sopii myös freelancerinä toimivalle Suosalolle. Vakikiinnityksessä ollessaan hän väsyi siihen, että samaa näytelmää pyöritettiin monta iltaa viikossa. - Olen kymmenisen vuotta koettanut kerätä itselleni ohjelmistoa, jota voi esittää silloin tällöin. On paljon antoisampaa, kun voi tehdä tänään sitä ja huomenna taas tätä, sanoo Suosalo, jolla on plakkarissaan mm. esitykset Kiviä taskussa, Luolamies, Mielipuolen päiväkirja.

Tranter`s first direction in Finland
Dirty, difficult, dangerous! A famous puppeteer and actor Neville Tranter (Netherlands) will come to Finland in August. He will direct a puppet show called 3D. The premiere will be on the 22nd of September in Linnateatteri in Turku.
The manuscript is made by a Finnish actress and puppeteer Satu Paavola. The language of the show will be nonsense including pieces of all kind of languages. But we are trying to avoid Finnish, Paavola says. The name of the play 3D means three things: dirty, difficult and dangerous. It is a term which is used about the works and tasks that nobody wants to do except the poorest people who are forced to do them to survive. A good example of this kind of works is mining. The happenings of the play are situated in the TV-studio. A famous top chef meets different kinds of people and their fates in the show. In the role of the chef is Martti Suosalo, one of the most famous actors in Finland. Satu Paavola will be in the role of studio assistant. They both act also with puppets. They both also animate the puppets. Puppets are a new field for Martti Suosalo. He has never before done puppetry but has always been interested in it. I have a principle that every year I will try to learn something new about acting or theater. Mostly male colleagues of my age become directors. I think there’s enough to do and learn in acting.
First direction in Finland
3D will be Neville Tranter’s first direction in Finland. Satu Paavola saw Tranter’s show Salome in 1999 in Tampere Theater Summer and she was charmed. Few years later Paavola took part in Tranter’s course and later in Charleville she met Tranter again. She asked if he would be interested in directing. That’s how it started. The puppets will be “big handpuppets” with speaking mouths. Satu Paavola will build them. Paavola and Suosalo believe that Tranter is the right person to direct a technique where the actors have to both act and animate puppets and make quick changes between these two. 3D is a co-production between Linnateatteri, Puppet Theater center Buoy (Helsinki) and Aleksanterin Teatteri. After the shows in Turku and Helsinki it will continue on tour. Both Paavola and Suosalo have experience in touring and they hope they’ll be able to perform 3D in festivals.
