NEW DENIM

ISABEL MARANT

NUDE FASHION

It is time to up your denim game! Denim is no longer just denim; there’s a definite shift in the look and feel of the styles of the moment. Colours range from crispy whites to deepest-indigo that feels fresh and cool; you get extra points for exposed stitching! Double denim is the way to go. Play with proportions, go with wide-leg pants and jackets (fasten the buttons all the way up) or tops with waist detail but keep the whole outfit in the same material.

NUDE INTERVIEW

NUDE INTERVIEW

HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN?

I started out in 2001 by moving to Paris and starting my own label. I discovered early on while studying that I was drawn towards outerwear and had a passion for shearling in particular. Founding my brand on the eligibility of renewing the fur design influenced my fundamental designing process, and my first piece being a torn fitted denimjacket with fox fur sleeves had these characteristics. It also laid the base of combining new materials with fur and shearling, something I continuously incorporate into my designs today. Latest in my collaboration with Kopenhagen Fur, in which we have played with mink both as an application but also in full-mink in an ANNE VEST design atmosphere.

DESCRIBE YOUR DNA

A juxtaposition is a big part of the ANNE VEST DNA. I often work from a clean and simplistic point - almost bleak in its modernity. My preferred material being shearling means a highend product, and therefore it is important to us, that we can back our product all the way. This gives us pride in our work. So of course, also sustainability in all our processes from the sourcing of skins to the end-product is a critical factor in the ANNE VEST DNA.

D E S C R I B E Y O U R C R E AT I V E PROCESS

I let my imagination unfold far in the design-process not following a straight theme before I start to think in terms of what works in a conceptual collection. This foster a wide variation of prototypes from which I develop different directions in the collection. I guess ANNE VEST is, and always will be about vast diversity. My work with our atelier, following and directing each step closely is something I put great effort in, and

since I work from pieces rather than full collections, tailoring each style to perfection is only natural for our team and I.

W H E R E D O Y O U F I N D I N S P I R AT I O N?

When I design my inspiration comes from all angles, and often sneaks up on me without me trying. In the moments where I look for inspiration I always turn to the streets of either Paris or New York, and viewing the passing crowds can sometimes be a flow of ideas to me. I am inspired by people with the ability to be in their own skin enjoying the moment, and I genuinely admire someone taking the time and making the sacrifices to be the best they can. I admire Sergei Polunin the ballet dancer. He has put so much effort into reaching perfection in his own unique way. That combined with the bravery he showed when he left it all to seek new adventures is admiring.

W H AT B R A N D S , D E S I G N E R S O R ARTIST DO YOU ADMIRE AND HOW DO THE Y INFLUENCE YOUR WORK?

Simon Porte Jacquemus, JACQUEMUS His way of playing with patterns and shapes is profoundly inspiring to me. Kym Ellery, ELLERY I love her courage to allow the collection rotate around and balance on one detail, a detail southing through the entire collection. Jonathan Anderson, J. W. ANDERSON I think his contemporary approach to fashion is fantastic and his way of implementing the zeitgeist in own collection while designing for LOEWE is impressive. Rei Kawakubo, COMME DE GARÇONS That constant flow of creativity is admirable, and his shaping and sculpting are all present in the best way. Mira Mikati, MIRA MIKATI Her colour palette is bold, and the playfulness that is her feature is one of my absolute favourites.

NUDE INTERVIEW

W H AT A R E T H E B E S T A N D W O R S T THINGS ABOUT YOUR JOB?

Working with passion is essential to me, and probably also the reason why I do what I do. I love coming to the atelier each morning and being surrounded by creativity an exciting projects. I am very appreciative of the fact that I can make a living by what I love. However loving your work so much as I do, hardly ever lets you take time off in your head. I continuously develop designs and projects where ever I am and whatever I am doing.

DESCRIBE THE ANNE VEST GIRL

I design clothes I want to wear myself, so I guess I am the ANNE VEST girl visually. However, our target girl is a girl that resides in a major city enjoying the inspiration around her. She is not afraid to stand out, but it is not an objective. She balances the slightly classic with an ultra-modern look and appreciates a sculpted look in her expression.

H O W D I D Y O U R T I M E I N PA R I S INFLUENCE YOUR DESIGN?

I feel instantly in love with Paris the first time I visited, and I knew I had to move there. So I did, with my boyfriend now husband only one year after graduating from design school. What people need to know, is that in Paris fashion is not a trend, but more a very serious industry, and it stretches into finance and many other areas. This is one of the reasons why Paris has played a central part in Fashion for so many years. The professionalism that French people in fashion have is truly inspiring, and I learned all about the business and the financial part of fashion from my time in Paris. Also, the network that I enjoy today is so important. A network of manufactures, small independent craftsmen, buyers and press. This is also the reason why I go there every month

to work, bounce ideas of on friends and colleagues. However, my most important lesson is to believe in your own style, and always “think globally to be successful. That influences my work every day.

W H AT D I D T H E K O P E N H A G E N F U R C O L L A B O R AT I O N D O F O R Y O U R BRAND?

Having worked with shearling (sheepskin) for so many years makes it very interesting for me to explore the exclusive material of mink with Kopenhagen Fur. They have an expertise in high-class fur that i can benefit from when incorporating the ANNE VEST design DNA with the material. Kopenhagen Fur brings unique craftsmanship, and ANNE VEST brings a curiosity, an ambition to push the boundaries and a powerful selling platform of top department stores and exclusive stores to the collab. So I believe we both benefit highly onward in working together.

T H E B I G G E S T R O O K I E M I S TA K E Y O U M A D E W H E N J U S T S TA R T I N G O U T ?

I have been very fortunate in my career so I have avoided the big mistakes that could have put my brand in jeopardy. I believe in ecological growth without financial interference, but that has also meant a slower development of the brand. Having a strong fundamental platform for ANNE VEST today intrigues me to think that if I had been bolder ANNE VEST would have grown bigger and gotten a broader audience earlier on, but that we will never know.

PROUDEST MOMENT OF YOUR C A R E E R S O FA R ?

The reviews we got for our AW18/19 show here in Copenhagen were a huge pad on the shoulder, especially since some the reviews appreciated

NUDE INTERVIEW

the craftsmanship and DNA of the brand rather than just evaluating or complimenting each style. At ANNE VEST we think that we have created an idea, as much as we have invented designs.

IF YOU COULD GO BACK AND TELL YOURSELF ONE THING BEFORE B E G I N N I N G Y O U R C A R E E R W H AT WOULD IT BE?

I wish I had had the insight earlier on to stick with shearling and other materials I now cherish. As a young designer, I explored other directions before ending up, where I am today. So it might sound arrogant, but I would have told myself: Don’t worry – you have got it!

YOUR BEST ADVICE FOR YOUNG DESIGNERS?

That there is only one way to success, and that is persistence and hard work. You must want it more than the next person and be willing to make sacrifices to go all the way.

W H AT R O L E D O Y O U T H I N K S O C I A L M E D I A A N D I N F LU E N C E R S P L AY I N FA S H I O N T O D AY ?

The business of fashion attracts many people with different backgrounds.

Social media provides many people with a tool to express themselves both on fashion in general but also on brands in particular. These people often lack the journalistic research the published media has. That said, I think the direct line between brands and end-consumer that social media provides is fantastic.

W H AT A R E Y O U R H O P E S F O R Y O U R LABEL IN THE NEAREST FUTURE?

Development. I continuously seek to develop both as a designer but also develop ANNE VEST as a brand. I hope ANNE VEST can continue to evolve and be discovered by many more strong individuals. I know we work from a niche, but I aim to widen into a firm position in the high-end fashion market. Right now ANNE VEST is in a fast development in both the Asian and the US market. This is fantastic and at the same time the path we planned for, and we are working on projects to keep this process going. Further, we’re playing with merging our sartorial work and ideas into a men’s collection. So perhaps you will see a men’s collection in the future.

Restylane is a filler manufactured by a Swedish company within Galderma, a pharmaceutical company. In their own words, Restylane is a broad portfolio of dermal fillers, skin-boosters and skincare products, designed to restore, refresh and enhance the youthful appearance of your skin. It is designed to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a molecule that offers support and structure to our tissues throughout the body, including our skin, protecting it from damage. Hyaluronic acid keeps our skin hydrated and firm through its ability to bind water molecules. However, as we age, the natural production of Hyaluronic acid by our bodies changes. Our skin can become thinner, dehydrated and less firm, losing its radiance and youthful appearance. The Restylane range utilizes two technologies to stabilize highly pure Hyaluronic acid into a gel form that allows it to last long in the skin, smoothing the surface, and providing lift and support where needed. The most common side effects include swelling, bruising, redness, pain, and tenderness. These side effects generally disappear within one week after injection.

AFTER

I admit that the after picture has a much better angle, but there is still a lot of difference. Both are taken the same day, without makeup.

I figured I would go with a little Botox (natural-looking results) I had never really thought about Restylane;

I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD BE BOTOX THAT WOULD TAKE MY INJECTION-VIRGINIT Y.

When you get a procedure at respected clinics like N’age, you first show up for an interview where they also make sure you are a good candidate (read: not crazy). I decided not to ask for botox right away. I wanted to hear their take on what was the best choice for me. I told the nurse I just wanted to look more like I felt, fresher! SHE IMMEDIATELY RECOMMENDED REST YLANE under the eye area to get rid of lines that make me look tired. I have always had them, but I can’t deny that they have become deeper over the years. that when you do it right, you don’t look like that. You only notice the bad ones and the greedy ones. I guess the lesson here is to have a brutally honest friend that tells you when you are about to go overboard and ALWAYS, ALWAYS choose a professional with extensive expertise. It is your face after all.

THE PROCEDURE DIDN’T HURT, even

though the nurse didn’t use the numbing cream. But it was a weird feeling. The best way to describe it is that it is like when you get local anaesthesia at the dentist, it stings in a weird way. After I had it done, I was so happy, and it looked amazing. The procedure only took a few minutes and they result were instant, the lines were gone! I didn’t get any bruises; you could only see two tiny stings on my cheeks and there was no

need for the big sunglasses on the way home. The morning after however I was swollen and glad I didn’t have any big plans. Nobody noticed a difference (not even my husband, not that I was really surprised), but I could see it, and that is how it should be. I WAS NO LONGER

AFRAID OF AN UNEXPECTED FRONTCAMERA ACTION AND THAT SAYS A LOT.

But after a few weeks, the party was over, the filler disappeared. That happens sometimes but thankfully N’age gives you a guarantee and you can come and get a free refill. One more reason to choose the best cliniques. I have to be honest, THE DAY AFTER

MY SECOND PROCEDURE I KINDA REGRETTED IT. I was swollen, could

literally feel the fillers under my eyes and I looked like a hot mess. But it got

Now, months later I am still happy with the result. I don’t notice it anymore, and sometimes I think the Restylane is gone (takes about 6-12 months to disappear) but that is how it is, we forget so fast. But I don’t notice the “tired-lines” either so all is good. AND AS AN ADDED

N’AGE is Denmark’s first and most experienced clinic in wrinkle-reducing and aesthetic treatments. Ida Bille Brahe started the first clinic at Kongens Nytorv specializing in Restylane. At that time, cosmetic, non-surgical treatments were a new thing in Denmark.

WOULD I DO IT AGAIN? YES WITHOUT A DOUBT! As long as I am not drastically

changing my face, but rather restoring it with a safe non-invasive procedure, I can’t see a problem and I am totally open and honest about it, THERE IS NO SHAME IN IT. The use of injectables has become the number-one form of cosmetic enhancement in the world because of its ease, safety, and

Today there are N’AGE clinics in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense and Herning.
