Shop local this Christmas. All of the businesses featured in this guide are small and micro businesses based in the North East of England that have taken part in the Business School's Captured, Your Enterprise or Creative Fuse programmes.

Introduction Since 2016, Newcastle University Business School has worked with over 150 small and micro businesses through its Captured programme and Creative Fuse North East activities. We have been supported by the North East Local Enterprise Partnership and many larger firms based in the region.

In previous years we have held a Christmas Fair in the foyer at the Business School and we look forward to doing this again in the future. This Christmas gift guide is one initiative we are taking to support some of the small businesses we have worked with.

Leanne Pearce Leanne has specialised in portraiture since the early 2000s and has developed a fresh approach to capturing the likeness and character of the sitter. Since completing her first degree in fine art at Northumbria University, Leanne has been commissioned to paint many faces, including Cheryl Tweedy and Ashley Cole.

She gained a place in the semi-finals of the ITV show ‘A Brush With Fame’ where she painted a whole host of celebrities including Tanni Grey-Thompson and Paul Nicholas.

About the Captured Programme

Captured for Creatives is a newly adapted version of Newcastle University Business School’s internationally recognised leadership development programme Captured. The programme is for creative businesses in the North East of England employing fewer than 20 staff and will be delivered at no charge as part of the Creative Fuse Project, Captured for Creatives will help you to develop the personal and business skills needed to develop your creative business. It does require a time commitment of 12 hours over 4 workshops, but it is not time away from your business - it is time spent developing yourself and your business.

You will be part of a cohort of 6-8 small enterprises and we will pair you with a manager/mentor from a larger regional organisation after your first workshop. The majority of your Captured for Creatives time will be focused on harnessing the skills and expertise of your 'manager/mentor' to help you develop a better understanding of your opportunities and needs, and how to address challenges you face in achieving your aims, but you will also have plenty of time for peer-to-peer learning.
