WHAT IS NUDM? NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY DANCE MARATHON (NUDM) is one of the largest student-run philanthropies in the nation and one of Northwestern’s oldest traditions. The 2013-2014 academic year marks the 40th annual Dance Marathon. This past year, NUDM raised more than $1.2 million for The Danny Did Foundation in an effort to advance the awareness and prevention of deaths caused by epilepsy; the third year in a row Dance Marathon has surpassed the million-dollar mark. Since 1975, NUDM has been planned, coordinated, and executed by students. Northwestern is proud to have nationwide

supporters, who have raised more than $14 million through NUDM for 33 beneficiaries. Each year, NUDM unites nearly a quarter of Northwestern’s students in a yearlong commitment of fundraising, volunteering, and advocating for the chosen beneficiary. This all culminates with more than 1,000 students dancing for 30 consecutive hours in March. With alumni, faculty, family, and community members participating in other NUDM events to show support for our dancers and honor our beneficiary, the Norris University Center attracts more than 15,000 people throughout Dance Marathon weekend.

YEARS OF EXCELLENCE.

our beneficiaries TEAM JOSEPH is a non-profit organization that funds cutting edge research oriented towards

finding a treatment or cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the most common degenerative muscle disease found in boys. Formed around the fight of Joseph Penrod, Team Joseph also works with families to provide financial assistance related to caring for children affected by muscular dystrophy. Typically identified between the ages of 2 and 5, 1 boy out of every 3,500 will be diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a disease that methodically inhibits the restoration of muscles in the body until movement is all but impossible. By collaborating closely with scientists and research companies, the organization has made considerable progress towards addressing the 20,000 new cases that occur each year. With the support of NUDM, as well as medical professionals around the world and communities across the country, Team Joseph is committed to improving the lives of boys suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

THE EVANSTON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION is a publicly supported philanthropic organization dedicated to enriching Evanston (our hometown) and the lives of its people, now and in the future. The Foundation builds and manages its own and other community endowments, addresses Evanston’s changing needs through grant-making, and provides leadership on important community issues.

why become a sponsor? Dance Marathon’s Corporate Relations Program will connect your company with one of Northwestern University’s oldest and most beloved traditions. As one of the most highly visible organizations on campus and in the surrounding Chicagoland and Evanston communities, NUDM will be able to increase the visibility and recognition of your company. A partnership with Northwestern University Dance Marathon means access to an extensive network of supporters, as well as exposure

to three large communities: Northwestern, Evanston, and Chicago. Whether your participation comes as a monetary, product, or in-kind donation, it will be paired with a customized package of sponsor benefits, all of which are outlined in this guide. Every year, while over 1,000 students are dancing for 30 hours straight, Northwestern University Dance Marathon engages 15,000 supporters, faculty, family, and community members in different portions of the overall

event. With the help of our corporate sponsors, our publicity has extended to over 200,000 people. A partnership with Dance Marathon will not only benefit your company and our organization, but it also will ultimately and more importantly allow our beneficiary, Team Joseph, to positively impact families, children, and entire communities affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Join our tradition, join our community, and join the battle to find a cure.

how to donate to nudm

Northwestern University is a 501(c)(3) public charity. Northwestern University Dance Marathon is a recognized student group of Northwestern University. 90 percent of the funds distributed will go to Team Joseph and 10 percent will go to the Evanston Community Foundation (ECF). Northwestern University Dance Marathon accepts both monetary and product donations.

monetary donations are the most useful to Dance

Marathon. Monetary donations allow NUDM to maximize the direct contributions to our beneficiaries, Team Joseph and the Evanston Community Foundation.

PRODUCT DONATIONS are also greatly appreciated. Product

donations are used to help us reduce our costs, motivate our participants to fundraise, and to supply our auctions and raffles. However, product donations have a more indirect route towards benefiting Team Joseph and ECF. For this reason, monetary donations, when possible, are strongly preferred.

If you would like to donate to NUDM, please fill out a brief online donation form on the corporate page of our website, www.nudm.org/corporate, and mail your donation to us at : Northwestern University Dance Marathon 1999 Campus Drive Box #50 Evanston IL 60208 P: (773) 980-NUDM (6836) | F: (847) 467-1043 www.nudm.org
