Hello everyone!

My name is Ammar Al-Shalaby.

I am a sixth-year medical student at the Hashemite University, and the current National Treasurer of IFMSA-Jo.

No words can describe how proud and excited I am to be a part of this amazing family. I had many amazing plans for this term, but COVID-19 had another opinion. The virus has put life on hold for many around the world, including your Team of Officials. Nevertheless, we can promise you that we will stay focused on our goals, and our efforts will be as consistent as ever.

I have high hopes for our term to achieve new milestones. One of them being the IFMSA-Jo magazine; as it is the fruit of the hard work of our members, where they can practice their writing and creativity skills under the theme of ‘Research and Medicine around the World’!

I hope you’ll have a fun time reading this magazine, and I wish you all the best of luck.

Ahmad Qatanani

Vice President For Activities (VPA)

It's a great honor and pleasure to be able to express my thoughts and feelings through the IFMSA-Jo magazine.

I have always believed that "Youth" is referred to a mindset of learning and applying your knowledge to contribute and drive a nation forward. That is what differentiates it from the childhood mindset of taking actions without knowledge, and the elderly mindset of having tons of knowledge without applying it.

Throughout my journey in IFMSA-Jo and other youth organizations; I have witnessed what our youth is capable of doing when they only have an interest in something. So, I keep wondering what the nation could achieve if proper investment in our youth was done and appropriate opportunities were given to them!

The empowerment we need is an attitudinal, structural, and cultural change. Whereby youths have the ability, authority, and agency to make their own decisions, which will change their own lives and the lives of other people.

This is of critical importance for a better future, if not the best! Simply because the world right now is in the midst of a technological revolution that is challenging every conventional method in every aspect. This needs a new way of thinking, and what is better than our youth’s boldness to deal with such revolution! Without forgetting of course the accumulative experiences of the older generations!

Moreover, from the beginning of the 21st century we have been seeing an accelerated increase in youth contribution in many scientific and academic fields which made establishing new journals for youth studies something we see more often. However, I believe better attention and support are needed to be given to youth researchers and their studies have to be discussed more seriously.

To conclude my message, I would like to encourage you all to trust yourselves and believe in your capability of doing whatever you want to do. Never wait until you are recognized by the older generations or even your peers to start your journey in achievements.
