Our Accident Assist team is on standby 24/7, 365 days a year to ensure you can get real time help when you need it most.

If your vehicle is involved in an incident you can call NTI Accident Assist on 1800 684 669 (1800 NTI NOW) at any hour, day or night.

1. Provide over-the-phone trauma assistance to the driver/operator until help arrives.

2. Relay urgent messages to loved ones, suppliers etc.

3. Arrange for your driver/operator to be transported back to base.

4. NTI Authorised Heavy Vehicle Recovery Operator to recover the vehicle or machinery using the latest skills and equipment to prevent further damage.

5. Ensure the load recovery cost is fair.

6. Oversee clean-up of the incident scene.

7. Lodge the claim automatically (in most cases we will not require a claim form).

TO DO THE RIGHT THING.

Many of our Repair Managers tell the “parabolic springs story” to demonstrate our values.

Years ago, one of our Repair Managers was overseeing a repair when the repairer recommended resetting a truck’s parabolic springs. The Repair Manager refused. He said that the springs needed to be replaced even though it was common industry practice to reset them. He told the repairer, “NTI takes care of things, it doesn’t take the easy way out.”

The Repair Manager told the repairer that, if his family were travelling on a highway near that truck, he would want to know that it had new springs not reset ones.

This has become a mantra within the Repair Management team and a demonstration of their empowerment to make the decisions they think are best for the customer, without the pressure of having to do things quickly and cheaply.

It’s a true demonstration of our values to #OwnIt.

THE TRUCK WAS STILL BURNING.

In late 2018, a fuel carrier rolled over and caught fire on a major highway. Our Claims Services team was alerted to the incident and immediately moved to determine whether the carrier belonged to one of our customers.

When no information came to hand, an NTI Emergency Response Specialist travelled to the scene, arriving within 30 minutes of the incident. Our team quickly ascertained that the carrier was in fact insured by NTI and worked with police, the EPA and others to bring the scene under control as soon as possible.

Having an NTI expert on the ground meant the scene was coordinated efficiently with the customer’s interests at the forefront. The claim was assessed and lodged as a total loss immediately. The only hold-up was accessing the VIN while the truck was still on fire!

TAKING CARE

OF THE BIG STUFF.

A Yellow Cover customer had a multi-million-dollar piece of equipment damaged by flood waters in Beaudesert.

This highly specialised equipment piece was one of only 10 in the world! The NTI claims team worked with manufacturer representatives in Asia Pacific and Germany to find a suitable solution. They even looked at breaking the item up and sending it to Germany to be sighted by experts - as it would only be known if repairs could be carried out after they had assessed the damage.

The item was eventually broken into five components. Repairs were carried out on the parts that could be fixed and others were replaced. While finding a solution with the manufacturer, NTI organised for the damaged items to be moved and alternative equipment delivered to the site so that operations could continue. We don’t just look after small business – we also look after the “big stuff”, including highly specialised equipment.

SALVAGE BY A SPECIALIST.

One of our marine customers submitted a claim regarding water-damaged pre-painted coils of steel arriving in Port Kembla.

There were 467 steel coils with possible rust due to water damage at a possible claim value of $2.2m! Upon inspection, we determined that 340 of the coils were damaged. The coils were specific to a client and not of standard size or colour, making salvage very difficult. So, how did we handle it?

We had the steel unravelled and found that the rust damage affected only certain sections.

We engaged a steel broker to locate parties willing to purchase strips of steel.

We stretched out the steel and the buyers chose the sections they wanted.

The claim was settled promptly and the recovery will save over $700k in the cost of the claim.
