Best place to park: nowhere Zane Dayton Contributing Writer
We are college students, we spend thousands of dollars to receive an education and because of this large amount of spending, we may not have the greatest methodology of saving our money. We may be thinking to ourselves, how can we possibly save any money with the amount of student debt we are accruing? Great question and easy answer: park nowhere, the students nominated “nowhere” as a best place to park for a reason. If you do not park anywhere, you will easily save money on gas. Whether saving money on gas is irrelevant to you because you drive a Prius, sometimes as college students we may tend to oversleep and when we oversleep for a class,
we tend to rush and speed on the way to school. Police combined with speeding can equal a speeding ticket which costs much more than a year long parking pass, which may even lead to an increase in insurance. If we decided to park nowhere, we would not have to worry about speeding to school, and our insurance rates may even decrease because 15 minutes can save you 15 percent or more on car insurance. Whether we have money on our mind or we are talking about British-speaking geckos, our physical well-being is another important factor of parking nowhere. There is another reason why the student body nominated parking “nowhere” as a Best Place to Park, because if we do not park anywhere, we increase our amount of daily exercise. When we are driving to school
and parking, we attempt to find the nearest spot because we do not want to walk a long distance to our classes. When we do not park anywhere, we are able to walk longer distances and burn more calories, thus leading to a healthier lifestyle. Not only does parking nowhere allow for more walking, but we can also use different methods of transportation for moving across campus and arriving to campus. We are scholars, we are scientists and artists, we are future teachers who will one day inspire others such as ourselves. By parking nowhere at the University of North Texas, we are saving our money for future endeavors, increasing our physical well-being to further prolong our lives in pursuit of our aspirations.

The Biz Cafe, located in the Business Leadership Building, is a campus hot spot for both business and non-business students alike. A great space to study or just chill with your phone, students can order Starbucks coffee and tea products, as well as find freshly baked goods from Clark Bakery. Jupiter House Coffee, which is on Denton’s famous Downtown Square, is a staple in the community. In December 2017, Jupiter House experienced water damage during the attempt to put out a fire in the neighboring business, the Downtown Mini mall. Jupiter House is temporarily closed for repairs, but the local favorite will reopen in the near future.
The Starbucks in the University Union is a popular hangout and meeting location for students. With a line often reaching out into the Campus Chat area of the Union, it is clear that Starbucks has a loyal customer base. Aura Coffee is located just off campus on Fry Street and features a unique personality. The shop was previously named as Big Mike’s until November 2016, when owners partnered with the UNT Marketing Department in an attempt to rebrand the store’s image. West Oak Coffee Bar was founded by local businessmen Matt Fisher, Clay Rozell and Owen Lyon, and opened its doors in December 2014. Since then, the café has become a top pick in Denton for lovers of coffee, tea and art.

Why Willis Library is the best Sunday Nester Contributing Writer
Regardless of your major, studying is essential in college to succeeding in your coursework. If you’re like me, studying in your apartment or dorm just does not work. In the past, I have attempted to study while lying in bed, but it never ends well. I would get so distracted deciding whether I should catch up on Game of Thrones or go to sleep that I never ended up cracking open my textbooks. So, I began looking for a place on UNT’s campus to study instead and found Willis Library. Willis Library was nominated as the Best Library and the Best Place to Study in this year’s Student Choice Awards. Nicknamed Willis for short, the library offers a multitude of
benefits for students. Not only is it the only 24-hour library on campus, but inside students can also find a café, numerous floors for studying and a staff dedicated to helping stressed scholars. Prior to my first trip to Willis Library, I had tested out a few other locations that appeared to be ideal for studying. Boy, was I wasting my time! For some students, studying with background noises and movement isn’t an issue, but for others like myself, the constant buzz is distracting, making it nearly impossible to focus. At Willis, there’s a spot suited to every studying style. You can choose between the library’s five floors, each of which bearing its own unique benefits. For students who need peace in order to study, the Lower

Level is the perfect landing spot. Unlike the other floors in the library, this level is strictly silent. This quiet perch can also serve as a comfortable space for a quick nap – so long as you don’t start to snore. A Lower Level Tip: It can often be cold so bring along a jacket or blanket. Level one contains the largest student computer lab on UNT’s campus, providing patrons with access to Mac and PC computers, printers and scanners. If you don’t have 20 minutes to wait for a Starbucks coffee, you can head over to The Study (located on the first floor, Room 134) and choose from a selection of specialty coffee drinks, smoothies, lattes, snacks and more! A Level One Tip: If you bring your own mug to The Study, the staff will fill it with coffee and charge only $1.75, the price of a small
coffee. The second floor contains study rooms, group study tables, and computers and printers. This level can get pretty loud, so it’s great for completing group work. To avoid searching for a table to fit your group, you can reserve the study rooms in advance. Reserving a room gives your group privacy and the ability to carry on discussions without being disturbed by outside noise. Level three provides a plethora of books within the general book collection; inside this vast collection, students have access to subjects ranging from world history to science. If you can’t find what you are looking for, have no fear! There’s always a friendly librarian around or computers available to help you locate materials. On the fourth floor, students have access to one of the largest academic collections in the United States. Willis’ Special

Collections is the primary resource for rare and unique cultural and historical content at UNT Libraries, featuring rotating exhibits and archival materials. This level also houses the Music Special Collections, a key resource for students belonging to the College of Music. Available reserves include scores, books and recordings. This level also has an area of quiet study seating with plenty of plugs. A Level Four Tip: This floor also has a gender-neutral restroom, providing a third option to those who want a more comfortable place to go to the restroom and don’t want to use gender-specific facilities. Whether you are looking for a place to study or a quiet place to nap, Willis Library is your best option on campus. Its numerous levels provide an abundance of benefits for students to enjoy – at all hours of the day.

Lone Star Attitude Burger Co., or LSA, is Denton’s best weekend hang-out spot. On any given night, you can walk in and catch classic country hits from Texas locals. Dentonites mingle over hamburgers and French fries that have become as much a part of this city as UNT or the Square. Some of the more famous burgers served include the Nora, Georgie Boy and the Waylon. Order one of these mouthwatering snacks and you won’t be disappointed. Don’t like burgers? No worries! The restaurant also features impressive collection of dishes like Hill Country Beans & Rice, the Janis Crab Cakes, and Chicken Tenders with Attitude. Just like the funky signature eats, the decorations range from nontraditional to comical. Upon entering, you can expect to be greeted by a mural depicting Jesus Christ and the Twelve Apostles, portrayed by Texas’s finest musicians. You’ll get an abridged education in Texas music simply by perusing the menu, a colorful page chock-full of food named after famous Texas musicians. The walls of LSA are decorated with iconic musicians who have made their mark on the Texas industry. Behind the bar hang special, customized guitars in the shape of Texas. There is nowhere in town prouder of displaying Texas heritage than this popular dinner spot. More important than the aesthetic, LSA fosters a sense of community. Everyone from the hosts to the cooks to the management, LSA brings people together with its hometown atmosphere, in everything from the cooks employed to the hosts waving you through the front door. It is evident that each person truly cares about the well-being of the customers that come in to get a gourmet
bite. The wait staff are incredibly compassionate and caring. Not only do they take the time to check on you throughout your meal, but they’ll even sit down and engage in a conversation with you for a few minutes. The servers genuinely care about the quality of your food, and on the rare occasion they get it wrong, they’ll make it right, no questions asked. You can expect service with a smile, the Texas way! Not only does LSA consistently deliver incredible hospitality and top-notch dishes, but the joint is also excellent at accommodating dietary needs. If you are need gluten-free options, you can get your burger on a gluten-free bun that, in my opinion, tastes pretty amazing. For you herbivores, the restaurant offers the Bohemian, a tasty veggie burger with a pepper jack kick. Order it sans cheese and mayo and you’ve got yourself a scrumptious vegan meal. Much like the guitars dangling behind the bar, LSA’s atmosphere is positively electric. Guests can choose to sit outside on the patio or the roof or opt to stay inside for a more traditional feel. If you settle in at a table on the main floor, you can jam out to the top country hits wafting through the speakers. Listen closely and you can hear tidbits about Texas native artists. For a happy hour vibe, head out to the patio, filled with patrons catching up after a long workday. Meanwhile, the roof is the place to party all night long. Wednesdays bring out a DJ, prepared to get you dancing, while Fridays feature live music from local musicians on the rise. Everyone is welcome at LSA Burger Co. It’s one of Denton’s hottest spots, and I have no doubt you will walk away feeling like you have found your place amidst the hustle and bustle. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

While there are many good options for going out on the town, there is no question as to why students voted East Side as the Best Bar in Denton. The local taproom has approximately 90 beers on tap, with around 60 of them coming from right here in the great state of Teaxas. East Side also boasts over 130 different kinds of bourbon and whiskey. If you aren’t a big beer or whiskey drinker and you remain unconvinced, don’t worry – the friendly bartenders make incredible cocktails. They’ll whip you up the best Moscow mule, if you prefer something fresh and subtle, perfect for a summer night. And for the colder months, ask for a steaming mug of their delicious spiked hot chocolate. The piping hot beverage pairs well with a night spent catching up with old friends, relaxing on East Side’s patio in the crisp autumn air. The pub is strictly non-smoking indoors, making the place an A+ in my book. The space inside is not as big as other bars in the area, but the outdoor deck patio and beer garden make up for it in style. East Side always
has games available, including darts, corn hole, foosball and more – plenty of activities available to make it a great night out! Another one of East Side’s best features is the amazing food truck selection out back. Let’s be honest, there is nothing better than the scents wafting from a good food truck to entice a grumbling stomach. These are a great addition to the venue and they are located with proximity to the bar, right outside the patio. There’s even a handy little gate which gives you quick access between sipping and snacking. All these things are great, but what really sets East Side apart from other local dives is the ambience. The bar is pet friendly and the customers are friendly, a nice break from the rowdy taverns on Fry. It is a place you can go knowing you
