Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA), an international service organization, was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is comprised of more than 360,000 initiated members in graduate and undergraduate chapters located in 12 countries and territories, including the United States, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Japan, Liberia, Nigeria, South Korea, South Africa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Led by International President and CEO, Danette Anthony Reed of Dallas, Texas, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority often is hailed as “America’s premier Greek-letter organization for African American women. ”
We conduct year-round programming that positively impacts our communities. Currently, our International Programs are Empower Our Families, Enhance Our Environment, Advocate for Social Justice, Build Our Economic Wealth, and Uplift Our Local Community. We always strive to Strengthen Our Sisterhood as we bond in this service. Between 2022-2024, we have: worked with over 10,000 youth leaders in our Youth Leadership Institute; spent over $30 million dollars during our Black Dollar Days; planted 40,921 trees; registered 161,155 voters; and volunteered over 1,069,079 hours.

Sorority members serve the following counties in Cluster I: MiamiDade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucie. By covering such a large part of southeast Florida, it is vital to understand the demographics of these counties when addressing their respective needs.
Miami-Dade and Broward counties are highly diverse, with large Hispanic/Latino, African American, and Caribbean populations. This diversity influences everything from language use to cultural practices and consumer behavior. These counties exhibit wide income disparities, with both high-income earners and lower-income households. The economic diversity is reflected in varied spending patterns and economic contributions.
Palm Beach County generally has higher income levels particularly among affluent retirees and professionals. However, it is a predominately non-Hispanic, white population with growing Hispanic and African American communities.
Martin, and St. Lucie counties are becoming increasingly diverse. They still have a more predominantly non-Hispanic, white population. However, growing Hispanic and African American communities are contributing to the cultural and economic landscape. These counties have more moderate-income levels, with a mix of middle-income households, and a significant portion of retirees on fixed incomes.

There is a strong trend of female entrepreneurship across all five counties, particularly among minority women in Miami-Dade and Broward. Palm Beach and St. Lucie also see significant contributions from women-owned businesses, driving local economic growth. Sorority members are among these female entrepreneurs.
In Miami-Dade and Broward counties, younger women are key consumers in retail, entertainment, and housing, while older women influence healthcare and real estate markets.
In Palm Beach County, spending is often directed towards luxury goods, healthcare, and philanthropy, reflecting the county’s affluent population.
By comparison, in Martin and St. Lucie counties, spending patterns are more conservative, with a focus on healthcare, housing, and essential goods, particularly among the older population.

Cluster I has nearly 1,800 active members who embrace our international theme, “Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood.” We are dedicated to building upon Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s rich legacy of service by uniting our sisterhood to lead in change, education, and advocacy.
The weekend will include a Cluster I Community Service Project under the Sorority’s Uplift Our Local Community Target. We will be supporting our young women in South Florida’s middle schools.
In addition, scholarships will be awarded to sorority members attending one of the five colleges and universities in the Cluster I area that have undergraduate chapters.
To support this amazing weekend, we have sponsorship opportunities ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. Please consider partnering with the 2025 Cluster I Founders’ Day Observance weekend host chapters as we celebrate the achievements of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s 117 years of supreme service to our communities.
