Your NSPCC scrapbook
Together we’ve been there for so many children who needed us.
I know how much you care about the safety of children and young people. So, I want you to know what an enormous difference you’ve made to their lives with your support.
Did you know that on average, two children contact Childline every minute? Children feeling alone, or scared, desperate for someone to talk to. And through your support, we’ve been there to make sure their calls are answered. On average, we delivered 17,000 vital counselling sessions a month – that simply wouldn’t have happened without you.
Because of you, the NSPCC has been able to protect children, prevent abuse, and keep up the fight for every childhood. Your kindness has made sure more children and young people know that someone is on their side, even when it feels like there’s no hope.
So please, do keep hold of this. This is your own personal scrapbook, to look back on and remember the positive influence you’ve had on children’s lives. I hope you’ll be able to support us once again in the future, but in the meantime, thank you so much for everything.
Shaun Friel Director of Childline, NSPCC
Always there to answer calls
You’ve helped us pick up the phone thousands of times to protect children who need us. Whether they’re calls from children themselves in their most desperate moments, or from adults phoning our Helpline because they’re concerned about a child’s welfare.
Always there to listen
Because of you, on average we delivered 17,000 Childline counselling sessions a month last year. And we responded to over 67,000 contacts to the NSPCC Helpline. Over a third of these resulted in a referral to social services. Your support really has kept children safe.
Amazing achievements. Memorable moments.
It’s heart-breaking to think how many children don’t get the safe, happy childhood they deserve. But by supporting the NSPCC, you’ve helped us be there for more children, no matter what their worry. Here are some of the incredible things your support has made happen recently.
You taught children to speak out about abuse.
Abuse is never a child’s fault, and you’ve helped to teach more children that. Our Speak out Stay safe school programme helps children understand how to recognise and report abuse. We reached nearly 900,000 school children last year. Thanks to you, those children now know that they have the right to feel safe.
The remarkable difference you’ve made to the lives of so many children.
You helped parents protect their children.
Talk PANTS is a simple conversation we encourage parents to have with their children, to help keep them safe from sexual abuse. So many children don’t even realise that what’s happening to them is wrong before it’s too late. PANTS is set up to change that. And because of your ongoing support, over 1.5 million parents talked to their child about PANTS.
You kept children safe online.
One in five internet users is a child, and you’ve fought to protect them. As you may have read about in the news recently, the Government has introduced an Online Safety Bill to help protect and prevent young people from being groomed and abused online. At a time when child sexual abuse is at an unprecedented high, your support helped us campaign to get this vital bill into Parliament. You’ve helped to keep children safe, both on and offline.
You created new support for young people.
Even in the last few months, you’ve helped us launch new services that could protect so many futures. In September 2022, we launched Talk Relationships, to help young people in secondary school learn about sex and relationships safely. And in January 2023, we launched Listen up Speak up, free digital training to help any adult know what to do if they’re concerned about a child’s safety. We couldn’t have launched new ways to help children without your continued support.
You’ve done more than you’ll ever know.
In the UK, half a million children suffer abuse or neglect a year. That means 7 children in every classroom experience abuse before they turn 18. Year in, year out, children are going to need our help. And by supporting our long-running services, and helping us launch new ones, you’ve made sure we’ll be there for them no matter what.
From the bottom of our hearts, and on behalf of children all over the UK, thank you so much.
