Ruawai-raised champion shearer Rowland Smith has reinforced his claims to the major titles and possibly a second World Shearing Championship by winning his first two open finals of 2019 last weekend.

Northland Field Days attracts thousands of visitors each day to the event site situated at the corner of Awakino Point East Road and State Highway 14, Dargaville and the Rotary Club need help to manage the influx of vehicles. Each year the club assists the organising committee of the prestigious event by directing drivers in the car parking areas and is dependant on residents or visitors lending a hand. A four-hour shift is assigned to each volunteer and more than one day may be worked.
