Volunteers needed for community craft group by Joanne Speechly
Wednesday Craft has been running as a weekly community group for almost one year and the venture has proved so popular that the organisers are now looking for new volunteers to join the fold. About 20 people attend the group each week and volunteers work in teams to organise the crafts, lunch and transport. Wednesday Craft is an open group and new members and volunteers are always welcome. “We identified a need for a group like this,” says team member, Lilian Radich. “So a small group of us got together and started Wednesday Craft. “To start the New Year however, we will need more volunteers because the group is getting larger. People can help in so many ways — even by just coming and talking with people. Our volunteers are just ordinary people, not necessarily artists. “At the moment we are finishing off Christmas decorations for the Christmas tree display and we try to vary what we do every week. During the year, we’ve made vases, artificial flowers,
However, Dargaville’s churches have banded together to offer a family event that aims to give people of all ages a chance to give thanks for what Christmas represents. On Sunday December 14 they are inviting everyone in Dargaville to Christmas in the Gardens. The evening will feature entertainment including soloists, dancers, ballet, a bass player, kapa haka and ukulele players. But most people will be there for the carol singing led by Dargaville churches. The event takes place at

Network News Appeal still on – please donate! Northlanders can now officially celebrate the 25th anniversary of their life-saving Electricity Rescue Helicopter Service. November 15 marked the anniversary of the first flight back in 1988 and November 17 signified the first lifesaving mission 25 years ago – that of Kaitaia mother-of-three Lynda Tracey, who would have died without the chopper. She recently featured on TVNZ news:

embroidery cards, gift boxes, beading and Easter baskets.” The group takes place every Wednesday at the CMA building on Tirarau Street, Dargaville, from 10am until noon, followed by lunch. The minimal four dollar charge helps to cover
expenses. “I think it’s a good service and it’s worth keeping going but we do need more volunteers.” Wednesday Craft’s last 2013 group is on December 11. For further information contact Lilian on 09 439 7799.
Churches combine for Christmas For many of us Christmas has become a rush, with so much shopping to do and tasks to accomplish before the holidays and so little time to reflect.

http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/ northland-rescue-helicopter-serviceturns-25-video-5712713 Since then, well over 16,000 patients have been flown to safety and thousands of lives have been saved. The Northland Electricity Rescue Helicopter Service is the busiest air ambulance service in New Zealand and the only one that flies 24 hours/seven days a week. It is a charitable service so needs public donations to keep saving lives because it is becoming busier by the day. Our 2013 ‘Year25 Appeal’ is still on, so please give what you can and encourage your friends, family and work colleagues to do so. As so many people say, you never know when you might need it.
the Taha Awa Riverside Gardens from 6pm to 8pm. There is plenty of parking in the nearby Countdown car park. Organiser Pauline Taylor says everyone should bring their picnic and a blanket.
The Year25 Appeal has been kindly supported by Classic Hits, More FM, former All Black Grant Fox, TVNZ reporter Helen Castles, TNVZ news anchor Simon Dallow and many Northlanders who have been saved by the service. Last year’s Christmas in the Gardens attracted a huge turnout, especially from the younger generation

In its first year of operation it transported more than 200 patients. In the last month alone, it has flown more than half that number. On average, it is flying at least two patients every day. That’s how much Northlanders – and tourists to the region, particularly over the summer holiday period – need this service. Top Energy, the other principal sponsor of Northland’s Electricity Rescue Helicopters, is also pleased to acknowledge the achievement, says CEO Russell Shaw. “A region as diverse as Northland simply must have a service like this. It is world class and has an immense impact on our community. Top Energy is certainly proud to have been such a long-term sponsor and I wish the service every success for the following 25 years,” says Mr Shaw. People can donate at any Northland ASB Branch, or make an internet banking donation to ERH Appeal: ASB - 12 3106 0046000 00. Those who donate $5 or more with an official appeal envelope (landing in your letter box any day soon) can be in to win one of 60 rides in a Northland Electricity Rescue Helicopter. And thanks for your on-going support of your locally owned air ambulance service that continues to save lives.
